Academy players breaking into the first team 11:38 - Apr 5 with 1126 viewsringwoodblue

Cam Humphreys did a fantastic job when needed this season but I think everyone will agree there is a massive step up in quality since Luongo came into the team and with Evans, Ball and eventually Camara coming back to fitness, Cam’s chances will be limited.

With Keogh retiring, Baggott and Ndaba have the potential to break into the first team if they are not loaned again next season.

But do we have any future starlets in the Academy that anyone thinks might break into the first team in the medium-long term future?

Baggott is some way off the first team imho. I’d expect him to go out on loan again.

Ndaba is an interesting one and arguably in the same boat as El Miz. You’d expect both to have broken through by now. His versatility might help him, but our owners are looking for a fast track to the big time so I’m not sure how promoting our youth sits with that.

I think it will be hard for anyone in the near future. They have to be ready to be a first team player straight away otherwise it will be the odd sub/cup appearance or a loan. Even with someone like El Mizouni who has had a successful loan where would he fit in with Morsy, Evans, Luongo, Ball, Camara + Humphreys for two positions?

It's a shame because we all like to see young players come through the academy but if the clubs strategy is to buy players who can fit in straight away there's just not the room to allow more junior players to develop.

I think Ndaba and El Miz will get moved on in the summer, esp if we go up.

Both have futures in the game but need to be playing.

Noting Phils comments RE keeping youngsters too long, one thing Mick did well was make those decisions and let players move on when they needed to. You'll always regert letting some go but at some point they have to get out and play.

Even with Marriot you'd say over the course of time it looks a better decision.

No idea who our high hopes are for.

Did someone comment on a thread on here that they were talking to a youth coach at a big club who said they know most of the time and 10, 11, 12 who has a future and that most kids in those age group squads are just there to give those kids people to play against?

Id keep El Miz

Arguably been the best Midfielder in league two this year. Complete all rounder. Can dribble, tackle, shoot, pass. We have sent him on loan and he has done everything and more to prove how good he is. I would loan Cam H and get him a full season of playing football. And keep/use El miz
