The locals among you will probably be aware of how carp the A12 is at the moment, but to any fellow intrepid explorers, give yourself plenty of time as there are some right sausages out there for the bank holiday weekend.

A quick check with google maps suggests a journey from Brentwood to Portman Road, just 53 miles, will currently take 1 hr 44 mins.

Probably a lot worse than you would expect so, if travelling up A12 today leave in plenty of time.

It’s incredible how long it takes to get there from London on the road now. Regularly 2hrs plus, longer if issues at Dartford for me. Fortunately the trains are ok today.

In Google Maps, add a "via" destination on the M11 somewhere before the A120 junction. Boom, the time goes down to 1hr 33mins.

Humans (even this one) are still more intelligent than computers.

I've just heard that a bus full of jazz musicians has overturned on the A12. Expect lengthy jams.

I drove yesterday but, knowing likely problems at the Dartford Tunnel and elsewhere, set off at 8am.

I got to Ipswich about an hour and a half before I was due to meet my friends, so visited Christchurch Mansion to kill some time, something I hadn't done for about 50 years.
