Not surprising, no. Utterly depressing though. It's the equivalent of us saying that Gary Glitter is absolutely the right man to be chairing a summit on tackling paedophilia.

Extreme example, but everyone will have some form of subjective opinion on the subject. (Climate change, not paedophillia) [Post edited 25 May 2023 12:46]

Government defending the indefensible on 19:15 - May 25 with 612 views | NthQldITFC | For all the good the UN are doing they might as well give up anyway. What we need is a radical, dynamic, youth-led organisation to take up the reins and kick us into real action. Direct action. The IPCC are too slow and worried about consensus and existing political structures. Their hearts are in the right place, but they've been poncing about for decades and we're left with probably the bulk of the world's population, even the bulk of the first world's population who are still too uninformed or stupid or selfish to realise what's happening now.

That’s unfair criticism of the IPCC imo. They are acting within their remit, which is to collect and synthesise the evidence. They’re pumping reports out every 4 years or so, which is no mean feat to both deal with all the outputs of the research and get all the IPCC government members to agree and sign off the reports. It’s probably the largest exercise of its type ever undertaken. That’s not to say they couldn’t do more to get the message out, but they’re not primarily a lobby group. Maybe they should do more on the comms. As you say, lots of people are still ignorant or ambivalent. But you can’t reach people who don’t want to be reached. We (anyone who thinks we need a cleaner future) are also up against a MASSIVE fossil fuel lobby with a budget that dwarfs that of the likes of the IPCC.
