I saw him make a bit of a comeback in Haverhill a few years back, after one of his many strokes.

He couldn’t get the words out, so, rather bizarrely, an unannounced woman belted out the vocals, but his playing seemed undimmed and brought back memories of 70s concerts by the white Hendrix.

Among his many achievements was proving it IS possible to have a good night out in Haverhill

I met him and his wife in a record shop in Haverhill in the mid 90,s, they were both very friendly. Shop was full of long haired grunge kids, they both seemed very happy with the way the world was going. They had built a studio in their house between Haverhill and a steeple Bumpstead. Was invited around but wasn't sure if they were just slightly scarey swingers..

Bit of a genius, really. I love The Groundhogs, partly because they ploughed that R&B furrow so differently from other band. Great lyrics and voice, too (influence on MES, Fall Fans):

That's sad. Saw him at Bideford Palladium about 10 years ago with his wife on vocals and he was a shadow of his former self. But by Christ he could still play.

I saw them a couple of times, once at the old Colchester Corn Exchange, now the Co-op bank at the top of the High St. Also saw Ginger Bakers Airforce there. RIP Ginger……

They did the Pier Pavilion at Felixstowe early 70's.

That venue had more bands than any Ipswich venue in the early 70's.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
