I just feel bad for the guy at this point. He can't catch a break. There's 100% such a good player in there, but the bloke is just shot of all confidence. He's never, ever let England down before but because of online memes and trolling of him, he's just getting worse and worse.
It's similar to Emile Heskey when KSI turned him into a meme, then it all went off the boil for him.
Maguire needs a move to a club like West Ham, where he can play with a protected DM in front of him. On the ball, he is actually quality, strong in the air, it's just positioning where he gets caught out. At Yanited, he just doesn't have that protection in front of him. He has dropped off quite a bit since then. Still a good player. Would be a good signing for someone like West Ham but wouldn't be good enough for a top 6 team not is he good enough for the England team anymore.

Not sure that is a valid argument when the other CBs in the squad were from Palace, Brighton, Chelsea (good player but not established yet) and Milan.
It's not about what club he's at. Is he one of the best options? Right now it would be hard to say no and it would have given him even more criticism if Southgate had dropped him. | |
