George Edmundson/Elkan Baggott 00:59 - Sep 20 with 1906 views | pointofblue | Are they injured or is something else going on? Away at a recently relegated side and no specialist defenders on the bench, whilst it contained four central midfielders, albeit Ball is something of a Jack of all trades. Would have thought it would make sense to have one of them as a sub ahead of Humphreys? Not mentioned by McKenna as part of the injury update on Davis and Jackson, so can only assume it’s tactical, but does make me slightly concerned we’re leaving a lot to chance. I presume, should Woolfenden or Burgess pick up a knock during a game, Ball would come on and Clarke move to the middle. But why risk changing two positions when like-for-like options are there? Maybe contradicted by the fact Clarke ended up playing there when Williams went off but that might just be down to how the game was going. Doesn't answer your question, but just a thought.

Fair point regarding Humphreys, though interesting we felt the need to cover left back but not centre back if so. Edmundson or Baggott could have still been on the bench ahead of Evans instead, especially with Luongo as an option. LegendofthePhoenix - corrected, thanks. Thought I’d put Elkan!

George Edmundson/Elkan Baggott on 09:02 - Sep 20 with 1150 views | DarkBrandon | It is fascinating, isn’t it. I’m sure McKenna and all his team have analysed who they most need on a subs bench with 8 outfield players. You can certainly make room for a centre half, without seemingly weakening the bench. Ball, Evans, Humphreys *and* Luongo? Scarlett *and* Ladapo (for one place?) But clearly McKenna prefers the flexibility those 8 give him, with the option to utilise some of those players versatility over having an out-and-out centre half. And I’m reliably informed McKenna does know what he’s doing … Alternatively, maybe he just thinks Baggott is too green, and Edmundson isn’t at the desired level at the moment.
