Only one 'new' player in that lineup

I've nothing to say about that specifically, just thought of it, and thought that can't be a 'normal' thing after promotion

quite unique i'd imagine.

a niche perspective

Isn't that what Nodge have done every time they've gone up to the Prem? With very different outcomes of course.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I think it's an important factor in our success. ITFC 2023/24 came "pre-gelled". We have been able to hit the ground running, with the same confidence-filled personnel who had achieved promotion.

Few squad changes, the same manager, no hangover from previous season disappointment.

It also reflects what had been said about us recruiting a 'championship' ready team

This. Our January window set us up for this start. Forward planning of the highest order.

The slightly wider point, which I've mentioned before, is that KM and the team don't generally throw in new signings into the lineup anyway.

He's been quite clear about getting players clued up on how we play, what he wants from them and fit enough to fulfill their role.

It's why he's hardly thrown anyone 'straight' in as such. Even with the loanees, where he's likely to 'have' to play them - he's very studious about getting them game time.

So Hirst came in on loan, was prepped by McKenna and his team over the second half of last season and we were fortunate enough to be able to sign him permanently in the summer. Now he has to be a starter if fit and is integral to the way we play. Whilst I can see this happening with Williams and Scarlett I have my doubts that we can hold on to Hutchinson after the end of this season, although we may get another year of him on loan depending on where we end up in May.

Highlights how good our recruitment has been since KM arrived... And how he's upped the levels of the squad players he inherited..
There's a real belief and confidence starting to show in one or two players that might have questioned their ability to step up a division, imo... First couple of games we looked a little ragged at times. Some players needing to adjust a little to the challenges of Championship opposition... They all look like they belong at this level now, imo. And are probably feeling it, to..

It will be an interesting season for Hutch.

He's the most exciting player we have had since Dos Santos IMHO. At times, he looks a complete cut above this level. It's not just his ability with the ball but the fact he's putting the hard yards in - he hasn't come here as a luxury player at all.

If he has a decent season (so far so good), then yes, unlikely we'll see him here next season as a perm signing. I do, however, think that there's a chance he might be a loanee next year with us again. This is his first year of playing as such and I don't see him getting into Chelsea's first team just yet.

Now, Williams is a different kettle of fish....more than likely an option for us next year.

And three more who certainly weren’t regular starters for the majority of last season.

Being able to use your squad like that with no obvious drop in quality is a hugely positive sign.

Who did we sign in the Summer of 2000, I don't think it was too many players either?

We made Reuser a permanent signing, Hrediarsson came in just before the season started and we signed Scales (who hardly got a look in becuase of Bramble's form), I can't think of anyone else at that point.

Karic, Armstrong and Chris Makin all came in during that season, with only a March transfer deadline back then that probably made strengthening in the Summer less urgent.

Summer 2001 on the other hand......

Excellent business all round. We built a championship side while still in League one. It meant we were paying £1m to £1.5m for players we would now have to fork out £3m, £5m or more for as a top Championship side. If (freebie) Tuanzebe turns out to be as good as we are hoping, he could be worth £3-5m. And imagine trying to buy Leif Davis now. If someone wants him, the bidding would have to start at £8m - £10m. How much did Saints want for Adam Armstrong? I can’t imagine us offloading any of our prized assets to allow us to spend that kind of money on transfers and wages. I love the way we do things these days.

Also. Weren’t Hull in crisis not so long ago? Protests against owner, money troubles etc. now spending 5m on a player, getting quality loans, and have a bright young manager

Wouldn't be at all surprised if there were huge sell on bonuses for their previous clubs, for the likes of Leif and Broadhead, going by what they cost us...30%-40% perhaps? Which would mean us having to get a serious sale price, to make it worth it .
