Great pic of Best below. Do you know if there are there any reports of the match?

No TWTD report for that one as they hadn't invented the Internet, unfortunately. I don't think I've ever seen one.

Presumably would have been an article in the EADT. Someone needs to check their archives (may also be held in the Suffolk Archives/County Records Offices).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I wasn't there but remember reading that there was a floodlight failure due to some of the 6,000 Celtic fans relieving themselves at the Allan Hunter testimonial a couple of years later.

Here's a Celtic fan account of the game, although I am not sure if the second photo is of Portman Road.

Great picture of Best, as you say, but I'm a little concerned about Micky Mills' posture.

I was at the match and was lucky enough to meet Bobby Robson in Barcelona some years later when he autographed it for me. Great memories.
I have a feeling the new Ipswich is going to give the fans much younger than me some good times too!

The police told them to stash their booze behind some trees on the rec. It kept the police station bar going for a while.

"Mariner and Brazil scored for Ipswich, Reeves and Hoddle for England. The two England scorers were to make their full international debuts in the following week, with Hoddle scoring, against Bulgaria. Northern Ireland's George Best was in the Ipswich team and Tottenham's Argentine, Ricardo Villa guested for England. Robson would be England's manager in less than three years."

Oi reckon there's more in the Suffolk Archives... maybe even some of the national ones.
