Legend.

In retrospect, it feels odd he wasn't part of that great attack that won us back the Ashes in 05.

It was the year or so after that, his career properly exploded into life.

Him and Andy Murray's (when he totally jacks it in) retirements are a sad time for me. I spent so much of my 20's and 30's cheering them both on. Both British legends and I'll most likely not see the likes of their quality in my lifetime again.

The only one he could have replaced was Hoggard but he performed such a crucial role in that side it would have been hard to justify.

Also at that point he wasn’t the Anderson that we know know he was a little more erratic at that point.

Indeed. He'd had a good series in South Africa the winter before in 04/05 but wasn't first choice and still pretty inconsistent.

Even after Simon Jones' injury, we went with players like Plunkett, Mahmood etc.

It was the Ashes in Aus in 06/07, he became a regular really.

At least one is kind of retiring on their terms, even if injuries are playing a part. Rather than being forced to retire because there aren't the quality players to replace them naturally
