Another thought on why Villa have . . 13:45 - Jul 10 with 1290 views | Battersea_Blue | triggered the match the fee clause. I’ve read most threads but may have missed it if it’s been mentioned before. If so, apologies. With our double deal it’s not been transparent what the fee split is. By triggering that clause, Villa have to know what the actual and real split is, to ensure they receive the correct 20% value. I guess they could even query it if they feel the split has been made in an unfair way for them. With this agent involved, maybe Villa have told him that they don’t really want him, just triggering the clause to ensure they get the real 20%.

Another thought on why Villa have . . on 13:50 - Jul 10 with 1165 views | Zx1988 | I don't think Villa would need to trigger the clause in order to find out the fee split - I imagine it would all be included in the official paperwork for the deal. At the same time, they wouldn't be able to complain about what Hull have sold him for - Hull are free to sell a player for whatever fee they see fit. If Town had agreed a £18m/£22m split for Philogene and Greaves, there's no risk that Villa wouldn't receive an accurate pay-out based on that split. If Villa aren't legitimately interested in signing Philogene, the only impact that triggering the clause could have is to force Town and Hull to readjust how the £40m fee is split between the two players.

One would imagine that the structure of the 'matching' clause is that Hull have to give Villa notice of our bid and what the bid is, and they are then given a period within which to exercise their option to bid. So you'd think that Villa will have found out the 'split' between Philogene and Greaves before having to decide to 'trigger'.
