At least that result wasn't primarily due to any lack in our footballing skills 17:26 - Aug 24 with 1264 viewsRyorry

More a psychological thing - some heads simply went after Sh1tty equalised with the iffy pen.

Something which can be worked on & rectified.

Agreed and that's what was so frustrating. They seemed to get all giddy at taking the lead.

Today is about acclimatisation. by BlueBadger 24 Aug 2024 15:57
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, like Sunderland last season, Liverpool and Man City back-to-back have been the best possible 'welcome to the division' matches we could have hoped for. Km will have learnt an awful lot about the division and how he needs to adapt to it and it'll benefit us long term this season.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Agreed that we showed no great lack of footballing skills but Man City showed more, they are four in a row league champions for a reason. Don't think any one of our team dropped their heads as they were too busy keeping the other side at bay. I guess it was just about a penalty for them but if it was so was the clumsy block on Leif in their penalty area just before half time.

I think you're spot on.

Individual mistakes and clearly Man City are the far superior team (as they have been with most teams in recent years), but otherwise we showed we belonged there.

For all their possession stats, they only had 14shots, and only 5 were on target, which confuses me as I thought they hit the bar twice and scored 4, maybe the penalty doesn't count as a shot on target, don't know.

But that's pretty good against a team likely to win the title again.

Our 1 shot is less good but hey no ones going to care come May next year about this game.

Hitting the bar doesn't count as being on target. If it was on target it would've been a goal.

Sofascore stats:

Poss 76/24
Expected goals 3.15/0.23
Big chances 5/1
All shots 14/1
Corners 10/1
Fouls 4/15
Passes 749/233
Tackles 14/17
Free kicks 15/3
Bookings 2/3

So I guess that one of the shots that hit the woodwork was not regarded as a 'big chance' by the stattos...

"They seemed to get all giddy at taking the lead."

Good way of putting it; & the mancs getting such a dodgy pen so shortly afterwards was quite the baptism of extremes - can imagine it feeling as though they were in unpredictable seas on an alien planet!

That's why I said "primarily"

I didn't mean that we'd "dropped" heads; I meant that some of our players lost their cool/over-reacted/panicked.
