Is anyone else having to deal with the confused faces of friends and acquaintances who open a conversation with 'Ipswich haven't started too well have they?' or similar and receive 'no, we're good' thanks - very happy with how it's going TBH' in reply?

It's quite comforting having seen Kieran and the team develop over the past couple of years. I feel confident that the improvement curve has only just started.

Don't get me wrong, it's going to be really tough but the outside perception (looking at you as well Danny Murphy) is very different to mine.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Mine think we have started well. Nobody, I don't think, was expecting anything from the first 2 games and the next 2 have been hard thought draws. We are having to develop very quickly to life at the highest level. Things will only get better. I imagine Everton and Southampton fans and friends are far more confused than us.

I thought we could have fought a bit harder in those draws ;o)

Our start has been just fine. You don't even need to factor in that several of our players have not been in our setup for long at all, and therefore can be expected to gel.

All you have to realise is:

i) we're not in the relegation zone. For most neutrals, that would be a really good result for us if we are still there at the end of the season;

ii) in our first 4 games we have played 2 teams who were in the top 3 last season, and 3 of our 4 games have been against teams who are currently in the top 4;
iii) breaking down our first 4 games:
(a) we got the same result against Man City that EVERYONE has got so far. We lost. We scored against them, which Chelsea could do at home. We were away;
(b) Liverpool played away at our place. They have not dropped a point away from home, have not conceded a goal away from home, and beat Man Utd by more goals;
(c) Our point against Fulham was a perfectly fair result. They have only been beaten in the league once so far: away at Man Utd;
(d) We got a point at Brighton. We're the first team to play there and not lose, since the start of August (in all competitions, including friendlies). Nobody has beaten Brighton at any venue yet. They beat Man Utd at home, but they couldn't beat us.

So you really don't have to do a lot of work to realise that our start has been at least solid. Yes we'll need to win before long, but the idea that you really have to get wins on the board early doors as a newly promoted clubs relies on having a fairly average fixture list. Our first four games have been unusually difficult. Which is fine.

I appreciate that Wolves have a game in hand, and in a few hours, it is possible that we will be in the relegation zone. I don't expect that to happen, as it would take a Wolves win, and I don't think they will. But even if they do, there are still 2 teams who have no points on the board at all.

The next 6 games will be crucial. If we've still not won by the end of those, we will rightly be proper odds-on for the drop. But I do not expect that to happen. We'll find out before long how hard our task is going to be. Next weekend is huge. But even if we lose, Kieran will not lose his biscuits. We have a great man in charge.

I was thinking about this last night.

We have performed well but I think that by hook or by crook, K'mc would have liked to have been sitting on 4 points by now.

Small margins I know but....

I look at this way, did we really expect to get anything from our first 2 games?
Blind optimists might have dreamed.
Against Fulham there was a chance we could get 3 points, although against an established PL team.
Brighton away, 3rd in the PL, did we really expect 3 points away?
So of the last two games we’ve picked up 2 points as opposed to 3 points, beating Fulham at home.
Not to shabby.
