RFK Jr for health it is then. 23:26 - Nov 14 with 2391 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

"I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health."

Trump is on steroids this time around.

It won't be steroids, there's an evidence base to support their use in covid.

Unlike the bleach injections and horse worming pills he was shilling to his base.

I posted about this possibility prior to the election and was told by the usual pro-Trump posters on here that it was both unlikely to happen and that RJK Jr didn't hold these views even though I provided sources and evidence to show that he did. It was embarrassing from them and now it's actually happened it's embarrassing for the US.

I take issue with a number of points you've made but I think the biggest problem is that you're attempting to benchmark future policies based on past actions when a lot has happened since Trump's last term and he's looking more unstable by the hour.

Just today he's voiced the opinion that he would consider implementing a ban on vaccines proposed by RFK Jr as well as the removal of fluoride from the water supply, something RFK Jr has labelled as "industrial waste" [1].

These are horrible and dangerous thoughts and ideas and there is no equivalence on the democrat side for this type of unscientific thinking. To claim both sides can do equal damage is a false equivalence with very little substance behind it.

A study in the Lancet found that vaccines have saved 154m lives over the last 50 years (or 6 lives every minute) and that 101m of those lives were infants [2].

If we look at the US alone, vaccines have saved 1.1m lives and 508m hospitalisations over the last 30 years. If you're more concerned with the economic costs which seems to be a main theme then the study found that 590bn USD was saved in medical costs and 2.7trn USD in societal costs.

You're saying Trump's economic credentials are superior to the democrats but how can someone consider a policy which negates that amount of cost savings as well as saves lives? It doesn't seem that economically savvy to me.

As with nearly everything Trump says, if you take the time to look beneath the rhetoric you usually end up with either a lie or a horrible policy. It's been fairly clear that Trump supporting posters have been keen to steer any debates away from actual policies and towards feelings, narratives and false equivalence attacks on the democrats.

Only saving grace here might be that Trump can't get the appointment approved. His appointments are so crazy that even some fellow Republicans can't bring themselves to support them.

This is what happened last time RFK Jr got directly involved in medical issues:

"Alastair McAlpine, a pediatric physician at British Columbia’s children’s hospital, wrote: “It is hard to overstate what a terrible decision this is. RFK Jr has no medical training. He is a hardcore anti-vaccine and misinformation peddler. The last time he meddled in a state’s medical affairs (Samoa), 83 children died of measles.”

According to FactCheck.org, in 2018, two infants in Samoa died when nurses accidentally prepared the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine with an expired muscle relaxant instead of water. Following the infants’ deaths, the Samoan government temporarily suspended the vaccination program.

The temporary suspension prompted Kennedy and his anti-vaccine nonprofit Children’s Health Defense to reportedly spread various falsehoods about vaccinations across the island, in turn resulting in a drastic decline in vaccination rates.

A year later, a measles outbreak on the island caused by a sick traveler ended up infecting more than 57,000 people and killing 83, including children.

In an interview for a documentary, Shot in the Arm, Kennedy said he bears no responsibility for the outcome."

The problem is that originally Trump was going to give him the "Health Tsar" role which whilst bad isn't actually in charge of anything and doesn't require Senate approval.

Appointing him Health Secretary is a totally different thing, that is a role with oversight of multiple agencies that can decide and implement policy and thus requires Senate approval.

It's quite shocking that Trump has put him forward for an actual secretarial role.

However, Trump is trying to get past the whole Senate ratification system. He has been pushing for "Recess Appointments".

There is a section of the Right for whom "sticking it to the Libs" is the most important part of life. It's a real-world version of internet trolling.

For others, so long as they get their deregulated, no oversight businesses, they don't care what else the useful idiots do. They can make bigger piles of money and hope to hide behind them if the sh1t hits the fan.

Yes, this point was mentioned on the Newsagents podcast and in the Guardian.

This from the Guardian suggests it will be trial of strength, and the way things are going you could imagine Trump winning.

"Some observers saw the nominations as a deliberate challenge to Senate Republicans, who on Wednesday elected John Thune as leader.

The Senate is constitutionally responsible for vetting senior appointments. Many have predicted that Gaetz will struggle to win acceptance. But Trump has urged the Senate to circumvent such hearings by allowing him to make appointments while it is in recess, in what is seen as an early test of Thune's independence."

The latest Newsagents podcast has an interview with Steve Hilton who was David Cameron's director of strategy and is now based in the States.

He has gone completely Trumpian and, amongst other things, doubled down in the interview on the following (from Wikipedia).

"Hilton asserted that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the most likely source of the COVID-19 virus and claimed that Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical advisor to the president, commissioned the work which led to virus's development. PolitiFact described Hilton's claims as "rely[ing] on a series of unsubstantiated allegations to spin a conspiracy theory about the virus being a lab creation."

These nominations are so villainously absurd that I wonder if there isn't some method to the madness. He might be putting these nominations forward with the expectation that he can use their rejections to weed out the republican senators that haven't sworn an oath of fealty.

I would be verifying that the fire system is in top shape at the Reichst... err... the Capitol building.

Do you not think it could end up being his undoing this time around? That he is giving senior positions that need real skill and knowledge to such incompetent people? When the average American starts to suffer surely enough will question what is going on? I don't know, that may just be wishful thinking.
