I'm too old and lazy to want to stand for 90 minutes but wondering what people think of the safe standing areas ? Is it likely that it'll be extended to SBR lower?

Based on away grounds this season, then variable.

Where properly designed then it's a better alternative to standing in front of a plastic seat but where retrofitted - Southampton stands out here - then there's not enough room to get past other people comfortably.

I would expect it extended to the SBR lower at some point though.

I'm not dissimilar to you but at away games standing is the norm, whether or not there is safe standing.

At least there are seats, so you can sit down at half time.

A shame really that those that want to sit don't have the option to do that as it used to be when we had terraces for most of us and stand seats for the minority that wanted them. All seater was introduced more for control, easier to surveil people by cctv in rows, than safety.

The club usually have a ‘safe seating’ area at the front of away ends for people who struggle to stand etc. (They most certainly used to, anyway).

Aware of that but why should it be for "people who struggle to stand". It's not about disability. People who want to sit should be catered for and not have an inferior view. Pre all seater we had a choice between standing in a terrace stand designated for standing and sitting in a stand for sitting. home fans still have a choice, so should away fans.

You sound like moaning just for the sake of it. If you want to sit, sit in the designated sitting area, it’s not hard.

And at Portman Road if you're not in a designated standing area (i.e. safe standing) you're in a designated seating area so you should sit. It's not hard.

Still do that, usually lowest row(s), though some grounds allow sfor something higher up. When you go online to buy, there will be an indication of which rows are designated.
I can stand, but prefer to sit, so it works well for me

For safe standing a lot of club sites don't seem to have much info. Stumbled on this, quite useful - https://www.standunited.uk/tracker
