FFS. He'd given his word to Martin that'd join them if Saints got promoted. He kept his word, despite listening to and respecting McKenna's proposal.

And anyone criticising Downes (or any young player under the Evans regime) for wanting to leave and better themselves when we were a middling League 1 club needs to give their head a wobble.
