Any TWTD gardeners with bad backs? on 20:20 - Apr 19 with 1163 views | TheBlueGnu | Yes, you could try a new product which was launched earlier this year. It's called The Barbara Knox Back-Booster, available at all good garden centres and from Gordon Burns' Garden Emporium in Darsham. RRP £25.99, or if you can prove you're an avid watcher of Coronation Street you can claim a 20% discount. Fred Dineage swears by it, and it also comes highly recommended by Derek Jacobi.

Sorry, but neither the The Barbara Knox Back-Booster, nor the garden centre you mention, are turning up in any google search for me. There was a reference to the centre, but it said the place had closed down in 2020? All I got for the BK tool was a shed load of refs to Corrie 😂

Any TWTD gardeners with bad backs? on 20:49 - Apr 19 with 1122 views | Ryorry | Not long-handled, but the best gardening tool I ever bought for my bad back was a large aluminum shovel - featherweight, makes shovelling material like soil, gravel etc soooo much easier on your back. Cost £40 couple of years ago which I thought was really extravagent, but very glad now I forked out (sorry!), has been worth every penny. If you just search for garden tools for bad backs you'll find loads come up, incl.long-handled ones.

Do you have the standard version, or the de-lux version with multiple speed control as endorsed by Sue Johnstone ?

Any TWTD gardeners with bad backs? on 04:41 - Apr 20 with 906 views | Benters | I always find the best method for weeding is a short handled fork and to kneel down as close to the bed or border as possible,I have a yoga mat cut into three pieces and tied together to give it a bit more cushion. This was found in a skip. I never wear gloves either weeding and always remember a weed is just a flower in the wrong place.

It's not so much the weeding, more the digging over. Doesn't help that we're on very heavy blue clay soil.

Oh right we’ll that’s a nightmare,I look after a massive garden it’s near enough as big as a football pitch, and that’s on clay. I’ve dug the beds over time and time again, tried all sorts of stuff,it’s slowly getting better considering nobody ever dug it over in 15 years. But that will do your back in as it’s so sticky and heavy 🥵

Have a local pig farmer put a couple of their porkers on it. it'll be turned over in no time 😂 Alternatively, grow spuds on it for a season, the underground growth loosens up heavy soils. Edit: or hire a powered rotovater. [Post edited 20 Apr 12:39]
