Signings (or lack of them so far) 08:17 - Jul 3 with 1516 viewsVic

It all seems eerily quiet on the transfer front. Apart from loanees returned gone and Burg and Tuanzebe gone there has been nothing else. I’m not concerned, but I guess I am surprised. Training has started so anyone coming in will be playing catch up - very un McKenna and Ashton who in the past have had one or two in by this stage.

That said, we don’t seem alone in this - not a lot happening in the Championship in general so far.

Are we waiting for the world club thing to finish? Or maybe the womens Euro’s (we’ve a history of being at the forefront of a new sort of signings (Dutchmen, Baltacha)!

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Truth is that none of us outside of the key people at the club know, so everything is speculation until the club announce the next signing(s).

It's July 3rd, I'd be more worried if the same topic is being discussed on Aug 3rd . . .

Players are back in today so who knows, maybe they've waited till today to announce some new players?

Signing diary from last summer:

July 1 - Ben Johnson, Omari Hutchinson
July 12 - Jacob Greaves
July 13 - Liam Delap
July 17 - Arijanet Muric
August 1 - Conor Townsend
August 16 - Sammie Szmodics, Kalvin Phillips
August 19 - Jens Cajuste
August 24 - Jack Clarke
August 25 - Dara O'Shea
August 28 - Chiedozie Ogbene

New season kicks off about 10 days earlier than last, but transfer window the same so pretty much a full 2 months to work on bringing in the right players; think we'll only be signing about half the number of players we did last summer too.

Poll: My morning poo-poo took 3 flushes to clear. Who do I call?

interesting to see the timeline.

i usually assume that it's best to get someone in early so they have a full pre-season with us, but this looks totally random in how long it took the players to settle in/get up to speed

The club world cup has had definitely had an impact, the u21 Euros will have also had an impact... but generally speaking big clubs just do not sell this early on in the window.

Take what most would say are the largest 8 clubs. If you exclude Liverpool as the outlier, there have been just three agreed sales, Kepa, Betteneli and Kesler-Hayden.

Chelsea - Spent 155M, sold 7M
City - Spent 112M, sold 0
Liverpool - Spent 184M, sold 54M
Spurs - Spent 0, sold 0
Arsenal - Spent 5M, sold 0
United - Spent 67M, sold 0
Newcastle - Spent 0, sold 0
Villa - Spent 6M, sold 3.5M

Lots of the Premier League teams will hold off a while longer to decide who can go on loan and who can be sold, once that starts happening things will speed up.

That being said, I think we are being really ambitious in our transfer dealings, that takes time to negotiate and is difficult to convince them to drop down a league.

It's not impossible that we have deals done, but they can't be announced until the Club World Cup wraps up. Easy to forget that Johnson and Omari were both done before the 30th June as Johnson was a free, and at the time Chelsea needed to sell before the end of June to avoid any PSR issues.

Would imagine the first movement in to come during the next couple of weeks.

Club World Cup, plus contracts start 1st July, financial year end 30th June for most clubs, players away on holiday. Who wants to splash the cash or add funds in last year's accounts apart from those in FFP trouble eg Villa who have just sold their women's team to avoid a breach.
