Galloways are no more? 15:51 - Aug 13 with 3649 viewsSitfcB

Think the club have sacked off Galloways as the travel provider after I think around 25/30 years of them being used?

No Galloways spotted at Birmingham or at Bromley last night, all Simonds coaches.

Think they did have a lot of issues last season especially breakdowns now and then and probably got fed up with them, an ageing fleet.

Maybe it's just a rebrand with the same drivers.

It looked like poor Helen was having a palaver getting them into the ground last night

....a coach driver "groupie" then.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Just a fact for the coach company nerds. Galloways took over from Braybrooke's of Mendlesham. The garage of Braybrookes was situated next to the Kings Head public house and Mr Braybrook would often use his new buses to ferry kids to school.
He liked cars also and the first I remember was an MG Magnet often used by the police at that time. He then progressed to a grey E-type Jaguar, followed by a maroon coloured one and then a red one, followed by an E-type 4 plus 4 before finally a red E-type.
I believe he was a Hurricane or Spitfire pilot during WW2 and had photos in the little office that was to the side and back of his house.
I don't know if it contributed to his demise but he was a chain smoker and you would sometimes see him light his next cigarette from the one he was finishing.

Galloways came in towards the end of the 1989-90 season, taking over from the yellow and green Eastern National coaches.

I remember that change and I seem to recall the prices went down too. I have used the coaches many times over the years and they are convenient especially if you live in Ipswich.
Using them for PNE as looked into trains and it’s a quarter of the price to use the coach although I suspect it will get us there ridiculously early so hopefully there will be an away fans friendly pub near Deepdale. I last went there in 2002/3 season so can’t remember the pub options

There was also a season recently where Galloways lost the contract possibly whilst in league one.

Lost to Ipswich Buses, who in the end weren't geared up to meet our requirements so far as I recall.

So far as I am aware, there are no away-frienfly pubs within a mile of Deepdale. Happy to be corrected, but advice is generally to drink in town. The desperate might be able to get a drink at the nearby Pizza Hut "1 salad starter & 35 pints of fizzy beer, please"...

Yes, the prices went down, supporters thought EN were too expensive, so Galloways came in with better prices and kept the contract for the last 35 years, barring a brief spell in L1 when Ipswich Buses had the contract and lost it within a few months.

Last time I went to Deepdale the pub we used was a little bit away from the ground, the Galloway drivers alluded to in the thread very kindly dropped us there and drove us on afterwards.

I think they lasted 3 games! Problem was, none of the drivers had driven a coach outside of suffolk before!

We went here last time, £1 cash entry, potato pies sold at the bar, proper old school vibe. Loads of Town fans in attendance, they had to stop letting more in at around 13:00!!

Surely Simonds won't have taken over? They do the travel for the Scum usually.

Sorry, I meant Simonds supply the coaches for the Norwich home games. I've always wanted them to do the Ipswich games as my Great Grandfather started the company, but it went down the other side of my family, who were Norwich fans.

Well it was all Simonds at Brum, no idea about Bromley, will see what turns up at Preston.
