How will we do breaking teams down this year? 19:24 - Aug 17 with 464 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Hard to switch gears after the Premier League.

That was more of a football match than we might face regularly at home this year, even though second half didn't feel like it too much. Pretty sure we would blow a lot of teams away if they try and play but not sure how many will in the lower half of the league. Remembering a lot of games were more of a basketball match last time we were at this level, with a lot of opposition not giving us the kind of respect this time round. I predict conceding a lot less but hopefully we can still have plenty of players in double figures in terms of goals returns.

If we do score early at home against lesser teams we should be fine but hopefully our chance creation will be start trending up when we have a lot of the ball.

I’m hoping we don’t go behind every other match, as we did two years ago and have so far this, albeit just 2 games in.

Very valid points here but when faced with defensive sides, there's a big bastard up front in Hirst to act as a battering ram and get on the end of crosses. Poachers like Szmodics and Chaplin. And then wingmen who can produce magic like Jaden and Clarke (him on paper at least). Plus we should have Leif getting to the byline and midfielders who are able to keep circulating the ball and keep the tempo high and pressure on. I think we'll do fine Vs the low blocks. It's an issue for any top side but we are well equipped as any.

First half Soton were definitely better at carving through us than vice versa, but second half was very promising and I can only imagine that more incisiveness in the last twenty five yards will come soon. Also Soton were dirty SH!thouses and we’ll get stronger refs who don’t allow attritional break-up of play so freely. Armstrong, Downes and Fraser in particular were constantly tripping and barging. Downes got away with a very blatant handball too I think.
