No, it wasn't a great performance by any measures 07:21 - Mar 15 with 616 viewsmuccletonjoe

But the result was the thing that counted as the other teams at the top of this league will certainly testify to. Because none of them picked up a win yesterday , which wraps a generous layer of gold around those 3 points.
Coventry are still showing they can slip up at home to teams with individual ability, Millwall lost a player to a red card yesterday and promptly lost the 3 points in the closing stages. They will also be missing the same player next Saturday at Portman road. And Middlesbrough, who had two home games this last week against Charlton and Bristol. After beating QPR 4- 0 , I was thinking there were probably 6 points waiting for them to collect there, in the event they managed just one .
So , no , you can't predict very much , and perhaps we shouldn't dwell too much on performance levels between now and the end of next month. Yesterday quite clearly showed what really counts.

Unfortunately not many teams in this League are interested in playing football against us. Those that do are normally put away.
We just have to accept that many of these teams we play are either fighting, as we are, to get promotion, are mid table but will want to put one over on the "Big fish" or will be battling to keep themselves away from being relegated.
And even those like Wednesday will have players that either want to put themselves in the window or keep their place in the team for next season.

We needed three points and got them. With Coventry and Millwall losing and Borough failing at home - it was overall an excellent day for us.

Hopefully a season defining set of results yesterday.

I don't care how we play any more. It's purely just about getting the wins now.

Poll: What rating out of 10 do you give to Ipswichs season up to this point?

Ok, only those who saw the game live at the ground can give a true perspective, but I have seen the game back now. No, it wasn’t the greatest performance, but I thought it was ok and considerably better than the mess that was Tuesday.

We were tidy, but it was very much attack v defence. It’s hard when your opponents stick 10 behind the ball and you have to give Wednesday some credit too. I thought they were well organised and their players left it all out there. You’d expect them to given they’re playing for their careers. I actually thought they were ok at Portman Rd in December too. Their manager has done a decent job with few resources.

Back to us, we stuck at what we were doing and it delivered its rewards. Of the players, Clarke, Matusiwa and O’Shea were outstanding. The other defenders did nothing wrong and I thought Johnson, who hasn’t impressed me, did well.

Neil is growing into it (hardly played this season and it shows). Egeli was not as bad as some want him to be to prove a point. I thought he did alright given he was playing out of position. Lacks pace, but he’s going to be a very good player. Azon looked lively and I’m pleased he got his goal.

The only disappointment really was Burns’ injury. Often happens after recovery from a career threatener and given his age. I hope he can recover quickly, but we will see. Mehmeti was lively and involved, but he can be a little wasteful with possession. He’s a terrific player who tries things and I sense we’ve not quite worked out how to use him to best effect yet.

You are never going to get an exciting game when teams look to hold us off and nab a goal. But we got the job done and trousered the points.

Well done all.

Brough perhaps?!

Anyone else old enough to remember Peter Brough and his puppet Archie Andrews?
