And the right experienced heads too. When you compare the signing of Granit Xhaka to the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips they are chalk and cheese. I'm sure McKenna felt he could get Phillips going again with coaching, but in the end, the outlay in wages didn't convert to points on the board. The problem we face is anyone available that will make a difference, especially those with Premier League experience, will be a target for other clubs and when you are newly promoted you are pretty much last on their list is established sides are competing. This is why I think we will be looking at players from the top leagues in Europe rather than 'Premier League experience', as Sunderland did, who only signed one player from the Prem, and then sold him to Monaco 6 months later.

Even though he didn't play as much as hoped, Phillip's experience would have helped the changing room. Obviously we don't want to be spending that kind of money again, for someone who hardly played, but the experience they have is invaluable. A few 30+ year olds from the likes of Everton/Fulham can only help us. There are always a bundle of players out of contract that will be better than we have in our current squad. If we only sign investments, our chances of survival are minimal again. I want at least 1 experienced player in each of the 3 out field departments. I have no idea who yet, but I am sure plenty will be available come the summer.
