Boredom setting in, so some players to contemplate 10:08 - May 24 with 1695 viewsLegendofthePhoenix

We need to be very, very ambitious, so yes some of tehse may be difficult to land, but these are the sorts I think we need
Goalkeeper - Rushworth (to compete with Walton who was excellent last season). Just because he was at Cov last year doesn't mean he's going back. We have far more recent PL experience than Cov, and must have a far better chance of staying up. Surely Brighton would be open to offers.
Defence - Egan-Riley from Marseilles - yes he left Burnley, but we are way bigger than Burnley, I'm sure we could lure him from Marseilles. We will need to play 3 at the back with 2 wing backs on several occasions. Egan-Riley is England U21, Irish born, link to our Irish lads will be a factor. He can also play right back.
Midfield - we need a couple here. Hackney would be superb if we could get him, that's the ambition we need. Also another defensive midfielder.
Left wing is fine as it is.
Right Wing - if Casey continues the path he was on for the last month, he will be fine. Then it just comes down to whether Wes stays or goes. But we will need someone like Wes as the second option on the right.
Strikers - I want to see us go for Nicolo Tresoldi - would be £20M or so, but he wants to play in the PL - has superb composure in front of goal. And if we want a big physical presence up front, not sure whether McKenna could get Liam Delap back on track, or maybe Josh Coburn.
We need 10 in total, these are just a few names and hopefully our scouting network are coming up with some gems.

Don’t disagree with any of those suggestions except I don’t think McAteer is good enough for the PL, Hackney will surely go elsewhere to Man U (given the link to Carrick), Everton or Leeds and Tresoldi is strongly linked with Athletico Madrid so doubt he would come to Town.

Tresoldi has also been linked with Arsenal. We could probably more than match Atletico on wages, and if he shone for us then I'm sure he'd be getting offers form the likes of Arsenal.
I know these are very ambitious targets - but if we want to be good enough to stay up, we need to be very ambitious.

I’m not sure we have a far better chance than Coventry of staying up. If Lampard stays he knows the Premiership better than most. He will know what is required. He did ok at Chelsea with limited resources compared to other managers there when he was in charge, second time wasnt so good, but he knows the league well and his name alone will probably attract players. Think we will be on a par with them in all honesty. I also think we will be fighting to attract the same players a lot of the summer.
I’m not sure our right side is anywhere near good enough. Think we need 2 there. I’m not sure our left is up to it either. Jaden and Jack are too lightweight and will get knocked off the ball way too easily against physical players in opposition. I’d keep one and cash in on one if we could get a more physical, athletic guy in down the left. Striker wise,we need 2 from somewhere, where I don’t know, I hope the recruitment department are earning their corn there. Hirsty is ok as third choice in that area.

You're not suggesting Mcateer could be our starting premier league right winger are you ? Mcateer could maybe be our backup out there but I wouldn't be adverse to signing 2 for that position if Wes goes.

Read the post again. I said, we have far more recent experience of the PL. We also doubled them last season.

Harvey Elliott is apparently someone we are interested in according to football insider .

Be great signing

Yep, another ambitious one. But that's what we do.

Agree we have a slightly better chance than Coventry.

Doubling them is irrelevant though. First time we got promoted, we doubled Southampton. Took just one point in the PL against them.

Yup. It's a clean slate next season and let's face it, it is likely to be 70% different players as well for everyone.

The only advantage we'll have over Hull & Cov is squad depth to begin with. Either of them or us could 'do a Sunderland' and have a great transfer window.

Coventry are going to be cautious with their spend. They have a weaker squad as a starting point and will be looking to build for the longer term. They wont recruit a roll the die and hope to stay up squad. Likely to put together a championship greatest hits side like we did according to my Coventry season ticket holding friend.

Truth is, no one knows who has a better chance of staying up ( or not ) till squads are complete ( or almost complete ) just before the start of next season. Impossible to even guess until you see all the changes that are very likely to be present.
