Having recently returned from holiday, and missing the Sunderland game, I have today watched MOTD. On the highlights he looked a little "off" shall we say, is that an unfair assessment having not seen the full game?

In pre season he really impressed me, so guess that's why I noticed him more than others.

Think it was more than he had a couple of rash moments in amongst a generally very effective performance.

He had a good game. You could see he had this calming presence about him. Looked like a leader in the middle and one of those I've identified as we must keep fit for the season. His experience and quality will be crucial.

Wonder if we'll discover with Diop that it's better to have a defender who ups your general level as a defending team (but occasionally makes a bad mistake) rather than one who never makes obvious errors but does not impact the game in the same way.

Rather like we discovered with Muric and Palmer, that you get better results with a goalkeeper who's brilliant at his best and error prone compared to a consistently mediocre keeper who doesn't make as many notable mistakes.

He had 2-3 heavy touches when there wasn't space to have anything other than a perfect touch, hopefully that will come with a bit more match sharpness

What he has, what we havent seen in a long time, is hes not just looking to lump the ball anywhere, he is always looking for a colleague.

Sorry?
Our CB's have been ball playing and building from the back for the last 4/5 years, rather successfully.
So i'm not really understanding your post

95% of what he did against Sunderland was very good and I have no concerns about him. He did have a couple of rusty moments, but it was first game of the season at a new club, so what can you expect?! He'll be absolutely spot on for us, I have no doubt about it.

You mean like every centre half under McK for the previous four years right?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
