Sunderland Confirm Midfielder's Loan Switch
Sunderland Confirm Midfielder's Loan Switch
Wednesday, 5th Aug 2009 10:34

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that 19-year-old central midfielder Jack Colback has joined the Blues on loan for the season. The 5ft 8in tall England U20 international is one of three Black Cats youngsters being sent out to gain experience this season.

Bruce says Colback, Martyn Waghorn, who has joined Leicester, and Jean-Yves M'voto, who is off to Southend, need first team football at this stage of their careers: "The lads have been in reserve football for 18 months and need to make that step up to the senior level.

"They are excellent young players who have big futures. This is the next step for them and I am sure they will do well for the clubs they are joining.

"From my point of view, I want to see them come back that little bit more experienced and showing the benefits, just as [young Sunderland midfielder] Jordan Henderson has this summer [after spending much of last season on loan at Coventry]."

Newcastle-born Colback, who was first reported to be on his way to the Blues yesterday, was given first team experience at Sunderland by Roy Keane last summer, but is yet to make a competitive appearance for the club he joined at 11.

Transfers seem to take longer and longer every day. Even this little loan signing was drawn out.

Anyway, good to have a talented youngster, presumably as cover for Norris and Garvan but who knows... Hopefully he'll be another Mark Noble.

happy days. he is a young lad with hunger and a point to prove, what better stage to prove it than at portman road under a manager that he has worked with already. Could be the next jack wiltshire for all we know, exciting! i recon this means it will be stead and martin upfront sunday, bring it!!

its a bit of a gamble, but im sure the young lad will prove to us what keane see's in him. shumi was looking flat and lacked the desire to play for the town and the money will come in handy when we buy messi for £67M. haha. would like to see trotter given a proper chance this year!

Dont' be silly barmyarmy, Barca are trying to give Messi an improved contract, we'll need at least £90million :P

He will hopefully be a good addition to the squad. If he is not performing he wont be in the squad so no risk involved. If he is half as good as Noble he can make a difference for us.

He's rated very highly by our fans at Sunderland. He was rated higher than Henderson by most but after his succesfull loan spell at Coventry last year it appears he mved ahead of Colback.

Colback was captain of our succesfull Youth and Reserve Team last year which won the league. Him Waghorn and Henderson are seen as the most promising youngsters we've had comeing through the Academy yet.

fed up with every one moaning on here give kean and the new lad a chance any way the reason we need another midfielder is because quinn will be the next one to leave and at least are midfield will have some pace in it. Unlike it did last season under magilton .

Sounds an exciting signing to me. I wonder if we had to pay a loan fee for him? It would be nice to know whether there is an option to buy at the end, as if he does really well it would be a shame to lose him or to have to pay millions for him.

Do we really need anymore youngsters in all honesty?? Do we even need another midfielder, who I highly doubt will even be a first team regular here.

Not gonna put the lad down though coz he is prrobably a good player.
Good luck Colback

I think the more youngsters the better, Keaner(Like what I did there !!), younger, fitter, quicker!!

Planning for the future I hope!

Welcome on board Colback!

Ok, I must admit I know absolutely nothing about this guy. So I'm not gonna get too excited about this one, but having said that I'm intersted to see how he turns out.
Where exactly does he play? Defensive midfielder, attacking, wide? Anybody know.
Also one last thought, a couple of midfielders who came in on loan who we didn't know too much about over the last few years turned out to be rather good, Mark Noble, Sixto Peralta. Let's hope he's another one of those!!!

Ed Upson will be disappointed to see this lad come in - another year of purely reserve team football beckons...

The Mark Noble loan worked well. He did well for us and he went back to West Ham as one of their best players. Let's hope this lad does as well

Slight problem though - if Keane brings in another 3 players before Sunday, will we recognise anyone playing at Coventry??? Luckily my seat is in row "B" so I will be close enough to have a good look!!
