Fry: Town Draw is Rubbish!
Fry: Town Draw is Rubbish!
Thursday, 13th Aug 2009 10:30

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry says drawing Town in the second round of the Carling Cup is “rubbish”.

Fry was disappointed that his side weren’t pulled out of the hat slightly sooner: "It was a rubbish draw. That always seems to be the case for us these days.

"We were one tie away from pulling out Tottenham and that is the sort of game we wanted for the chairman.

"It would have been fantastic to have got a team like Spurs or Manchester City down here, but I guess it could have been a lot worse as well.

"At least we are at home and will have a very good chance of making progress. Hopefully the Manchester United connection between Darren and Roy will attract a lot of attention."

Posh and the Blues will meet in the week commencing 24th August.

Meanwhile, reports in Scotland continue to link Dundee United midfielder Morgaro Gomis with Town with one newspaper claiming that the Blues had a £450,000 offer turned down earlier in the summer.

Town manager Roy Keane was recently reported to have dismissed the link after widespread claims that the Blues were about to make an £800,000 bid with the SPL club valuing the Senegalese international somewhere nearer the £1.8 million mark Wigan paid Hamilton for James McCarthy.

Elsewhere, former Blue Alan Lee has been linked with a move from Crystal Palace to Swansea. Current Blue Pablo Couñago recently turned down a switch to the Liberty Stadium.

And, in one of the summer’s most surprising moves, former Town keeper Andy Marshall has joined Aston Villa on a one-year deal having been released by Coventry at the end of last season.

Jolly bumbly Barry Fry is probably just trying to drum up a bit of interest in the game by having a dig at Ipswich - or am I crediting him with too much savvy? I'm not sure we should rise to the bait and be too keen to gain more enemies in the region. I'd like to see crowds increase at PR, and for this we need to spread our net as wide as possible geographically. (We already have certain misguided elements of the Colchester support trying to suggest there is a wedge between Essex and Suffolk, when in fact a lot of ITFC fans live in N.E. Essex, and quite a few in Colchester itself.) Yes, in terms of success over the years we are indeed the Pride of Anglia! But remember, according to Wikipedia, P'boro has a population of 163,300, while Ipswich has 121,000. So in that sense we are the smaller club. We are rightly proud of our history, but let's retain our humility: "There but for the grace of God go we."

Chrildren, children you don't need to bite at every silly claim. Bazzo knows that a game like this would normally only draw 6,000 so he wants to raise the anti. We all know Petebog will go back to where they belong just as Colliwobbles did. Rise above the bait me friends.

Barry Fry is just creating a bit of banter, football is a better place with characters like him. The more people like him in the game the better

with regards to the draw, what is rubbish is the fact that the unseeded teams had already been drawn out randomly home and away!!!! wot a load of pants, who the hell at the fa decided to do it like that. twerps.

It is a rubbish draw but they will probably make far more money in away tickets from us than if they got a 'big' prem team as their fans wont be intersted in a league cup 2nd round game. If the home turnout is low thats their problem.

I actually agree with Barry Fry I think it is a rubbish tie. Would much rather have the Budgies, I men even in League one they are a much bigger club than us as one comment made by a budgie in the forum.

Dunno why everyone is getting so hot about his comments, he speaks the truth. Posh were in League 2 under 2 years ago, of course they want a glamour cup tie. And we deffo aren't one! We were all chuffed when we got Chelsea last season remember...

I can't blame him if I'm honest, thinking back to last years chelsea tie. Everyone wants to draw a big club and give it a real go, when in reality the odds are that his side are going to be knocked out by a less glamourous championship side and not going to get a crack at a big club. Everyone loves a giant killer.
As far as creating a stirr, from the messages on here it looks as if he's succeeded. I'd like a bit of a dig at borough, seeing as we dont have Norwich to play this season and this tie is as close to a local derby we are going to get this year.

I used to like Barry Fry, but what a stupid comment. Who does he think Posh are. There is more history in the ITFC biscuit tin than there is at Posh.

Agree Barry - this is a rubbish draw for ITFC! Playing such a small club.

We really are a touchy lot on here aren't we. No where does Mr Fry suggest we are a small club, no where does he belittle us. All he says is that he was hoping for a Spurs or Man City type of draw. Really people, you need to get a sense of perspective about these things.
How excited would we have been to draw, say, Preston at home? No disrespect to Preston, but it would be a "rubbish" draw. Don't take everything so personnally!

If nothing else Barry has ,proved we have our share of bad mouth morons who think that their abusive language amuses anyone ,sort of morons any club are better off without, just the sort of people you dont want nearby when you take your kids or partner to a match, or staggering around the streets afterwards. Surprised that they can read with that mentality !

It's rubbish in terms of the fact that the gate will be average(maybe 7k)and I think he'd like to just go out to one on the Prem big boys attracting 13-14k in the process, any other Champ side would have been 'rubbish' in that respect...
