Bolton Defender Linked
Bolton Defender Linked

Town are being linked with a loan move for Bolton central defender Danny Shittu. The 29-year-old is yet to play for the Premier League side this season.

Nigerian international Shittu started his career at Charlton during which time he went on loan at Blackpool and QPR. In 2002 the 6ft 3in tall centre-half joined the Superhoops permanently and became a regular in their defence.

In 2006, the Lagos-born defender moved on to then-Premier League Watford for £1.6 million. Two years later he joined his current club for a fee of £2 million plus add-ons, signing a contract until the summer of 2011.

Shittu has failed to make an impact at the Reebok Stadium, making only 11 starts and one sub appearance.

Town are understood to be in the market for a dominating central defender and Shittu very much fits into that mould. Last week Roy Keane revealed that he is in talks with two clubs regarding two signings on loan with a view to permanent deals in January. Currently Football League clubs can sign players on loan for up to a maximum of 93 days.

Meanwhile, new signing Carlos Edwards says the chance to work with manager Roy Keane is “a delight”.

The Trinidad and Tobago winger made his Town debut in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Edwards said: “Of course having the chance to work with the manager again after our days at Sunderland played a part in my move to Ipswich. It is a delight to be back working for him.

“Everyone has a dark side and Roy Keane is no exception, but once all the players do what he wants everybody will be smiling. The manager knows what he wants, but so far it has eluded him this season.”

The former Sunderland, Wrexham and Luton man joined up with the squad on Friday having been away on international duty but says he is quickly getting to know his new team-mates: “I have already made new friends in the squad, and there doesn't seem to be any negativity in the group.

“They are all bubbly, and now we must work together collectively and sharpen up in some areas - making it harder for opponents to score at one end and scoring more ourselves at the other.

“At the end of the day the finger will be pointed at the gaffer, but we are all in this together.”

Elsewhere, Celtic are reported to be ready to move for Derry City youngster Darren McCauley, who was linked with Town, Blackburn and Coventry last week. The 17-year-old is likely to leave his club, who play in the League of Ireland, at the end of the season in November.

I can't think of a more appropriate signing for us at this moment in time. If true, good to see RK has the right ideas, now the small matter of selling the dream to Shittu.

Im a big fan of Shittu. Big precense, big in a challenge and attacks the ball in the air. Doubt it would be too difficult to convince him to come down as he has told he could leave and doesnt seem to feature too often.

Well said, Mr Edwards - manager, players AND THE FANS are all in this together; let's get behind the team 100% tomorrow night and kick start our season.

Sign him up! Two reasons:

1. Good, solid defender
2. Amazing chant possibilities

Great Player.

However, I'm growing cautious at to the team chemistry at the moment, we have acquired so many top players, and on paper we really should be right up there, but the players just aren't gelling - we need to settle down and build a strong team mentality that can take the championship by storm.

People who are losing hope already should really not call themselves fanatics of the club.

Personally I cant wait til all transfer/loan speculation is finished and the club and the current squad can get on with winning a game or 2. Common boys lift.

Shittu is needed - great championship defender!

On another note if we fail to win again nott forest 2moro we are in deep sh*t! With Newcastel coming soon. Lose or draw to Nottingham forest and we are in a relegation fight! I dont care what anyof you say (its early days, let the team gel) nothing is either here nor there wee will be bottom with two points from a possible 25 odd..

We need a win against forest or it will be a long long season~!~

After seeing Macauley's awful attempt at a clearance anyone will do.
Shittu & a goal scorer are the final pieces of the jigsaw.

There's a couple of Huddersfield strikers who have already scored a few this season who might relish the chance to step up a division ... !

What's happened to the goal scorers, they have managed it in previous season's. What is the real missing link now, is it another striker ?

How solid is this rumour? If so yes please.

Its just as well letters and numbers don't come off team shirts that easy, it would be interesting if the extra T and the U got washed off!!

I hope Shittu does join us, we can all see that wer'e certainly lacking a solid c/h.
Good on RK he knows what he's doing,it just takes a bit of time.
Some on here think that keane can just walk into a shop and buy/loan players but thats not the case.
He has identified areas on the pitch that need strengthening, and is doing something about it.
3pts against Forest me thinks! COYB!!

if true will be a good signing, and then maybe a left back. once the defence is sorted it will give the midfield and strikers more confidence to go and play

Do Remember that we have only lost one game at home so far, and other than that, at home we are undefeated. Forest will Come to the fortress tomorrow night and get sent packing back up the A52 with nothing. Tomorrow is the day when our season turns around. All the boys will come good and WE WILL WIN... FACT!
