McAuley Told He Can Leave
McAuley Told He Can Leave
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 22:27

Central defender Gareth McAuley has confirmed that Town have made him available for transfer. The Northern Irish international has had a difficult start to the season and was red-carded during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old, who was recently stripped of the captaincy, says he has been told to find a new club: “My agent got a call from the chairman who said if a club could be found for me then to go ahead.”

McAuley, who was recently linked with Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, joined the Blues last summer for £1.1 million from Leicester having been chased by former manager Jim Magilton since the previous transfer window.

Obviously Keano is quite difficult to get on with. This was quite apparent at SFC. You can see what he's doing! Clearing out and getting rid of any player that doesn't see his way of thinking or playing his idea of football.
This will definitely have an effect on any player, doesn't make them a bad player just someone who clearly doesn't get on with the new manager. Which happens to clubs up and down the country.

I do feel we need to give Keano time! to sort out his preferred team as you can only judge players when they are actually playing competitively. Although this does need to start happening sooner rather than later (which I'm sure it will).

What ever team he puts out against Doncaster we need to get right behind them, he has brought in some quality players whoI'm sure will start doing the buisness.

Is Keane a canary in disguise or has he a problem with players from Northern Ireland. He has let go some great players from last season Clarke, Rhodes, Haynes etc.

callumgarryskeemer - signing McAuley is something you can't blame Keano for! But if you wanna go and support Man City ... feel free. Maybe Chelsea, Manyoo and Real Madrid too? Personally I'd rather stick with the rest of the loyal supporters who support the club through THICK AND THIN ... and no we aren't all mindless sheep who follow the manager whatever. I was a vociferous anti-Jim ranter at the end of his tenure! I just think Keano needs to be cut a bit of slack given that he has only been in charge for a handful of games and some of his newest players have only been with the squad a few days. Let the man do his job and things will come good. If you were at Portman Road on Tuesday, you will have seen how well our new boys played - when they get fit again and settle in, then things will start to happen.

Something else that i found very funny indeed was people on Radio Suffolk moaning that Pablo wasnt brought on Tuesday Night??????

Clueless

Keane brought 2 midfielders on and would have made a change up front if he wasnt forced to bring Trotter on due to Rosenoir's injury, and people were saying keane is clueless?? What game do some people watch??

The truth is, STEAD had a shocker, should have been hauled off in my eyes, the guy is garbage, no jumping, no goals, he is a complete waste of time.

What is in common is the fact that Magilton signed all of these garbage players and Keane has to keep shipping them out because they still prove they cant be arsed and cant compete at this level.

What I have noticed is how many sides are playing us with BIG players at the back who are normally well organised, that is something that frustrates us in my eyes, we need a big player to unlock them!

Impressed with Leadbitter, colback (should have started) although Quinny really had a good game, and Edwards will be another quality signing.

Everyone pins their hopes on Pablo being a big player, I just dont see that? Granted he does believe in ball to feet which I like to see, but so many championship teams found him out and know exactly how to play him. And again he isnt a prolific scorer!

Another Radio suffolk caller was ranting about selling Jordan Rhodes?? Why cant people get over it and move on, the guy isnt here anymore, he would not have played for our first team, he isnt a big impact player, it was never going to happen. We got good money for a kid who will only ever be a league 1 man, he wont hit higher levels.

Am I happy at not having a win in 7 games, No i am not, but one thing I will do is support Roy Keane and believe in him axing the crap that he inherited and bringing in decent lads.

Again we will not be going up this year, but what we should do is let the guy get his squad together and enjoy the rest of the season as supporters and not a bunch of moaners!

UP THE TOWN...................

McAuley wasn't a Mogga or DeVos, but he wasn't that bad. This season his confidence must have been shattered.

I would have preferred a decision to be held off until the transfer window opens up again and a replacement lined up. Not a huge fan of loanees...sometimes they work more often they do not!

I feel for the lad, it's not his fault if he is not good enough for this division.
Yes he has had poor performances not helped by losing the captaincy not helped by the preasure that expectations have exceeded potential by the arrival of RK not helped by the preasure from supporters (me included). Good bye and good luck GMc. Now Mr Evans, get out your cash and lure a top class (at this level) deffender (or two) and sort this epic deffensive saga out, it realy has gone on long enough. Set your sights a little higher.COYB

He's a million pound player. He's an international defender. He had 85 good minutes on Tuesday night. We haven't got many options in defence right now. We should keep him until we do. Back Roy Keane. Back the team.

KEANE TAKES OVER

EVERYONE WETS THEMSELVES - NOW THEY ARE SLAGGING HIM

HE INHERITED MAGILTIONS S***E EXCUSE OF A SQUAD FULL OF LEAGUE 1'ERS AND NEARLY MEN NOT UP FOR A BATTLE!

GAVE THEM A CHANCE, THEY DIDNT TAKE IT

NOW HAS TO SHIP THEM OUT AND LOOK WHAT HE IS BRINGING IN

QUALITY.......!! (With the ever so slight exception of Healy)

WE HAVE PLAYED SEVEN GAMES, HAVE NOT WON, BUT KEANE IS TURNING THE SQUAD AROUND AND CAN NOT BE EXPECTED TO PRODUCE A PROMOTION WINNING TEAM FROM THAT GROUP OF PLAYERS....!

KEANE'S AMBITION IS PROMOTION, HE WANTED IT IN ONE SEASON, THATS WHAT ROY KEANE WANTS BECAUSE HE HAS GOT AMBITION!

A LOT OF MAGILTIONS SQUAD DONT SHARE THAT.......!! SO GET EM OUT

I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO USE THIS SEASON TO BUILD, AND EXPECT MORE NEXT SEASON, ITS NATURAL.

THIS LEAGUE IS THE TOUGHEST YET BY MILES, THE 3 THAT CAME DOWN WILL GO BACK UP FOR SURE.

AND IF WE CARRY ON GETTING OFFICIALS LIKE TUESDAY THEN PROMOTION WOULD NEVER HAPPEN EVEN WITH A QUALITY GROUP OF PLAYERS........

KEANO I BELIEVE IN YOU - AND MORE OF OUR SUPPORTERS SHOULD DO THE SAME

lets look at the facts, last season it took Mcauley a long time to get up to speed and he was making mistakes on a regular basis. He did however improve in the latter part of the season. It shouldn't take a professional footballer half or 3 quartes of a season to get up to speed, if it does then he's not good enough

in my opinion Magilton signed him for too much money and talked this guy up too much, he then made him captain and it has been clear that he doesn't have the leadership skills required to be captain, during breaks in play for injuries etc if we had our backs to the wall he was jus stood there with his hands on his hips, it wasn't him who was rallying round people as a captain should.

This season Mcauley has had an awful start and no one can argue with that any differently. He has costed us games, such as coventry away on first game of the season, middlesborough at the weekend and now forrest. Does he not learn from his mistakes? it baffles me why he has been linked with teams such as boro and sheff utd, teams who are gonna be in the promotion mix up come the end of the season. do they not have people watching our games?

one more question can someone tell me whats happened to David Wright? is he injured? or jus out of favour, if so why?

I'm not sure i agree with you Mr 'Thetruth'.

RK did not inherit a sh*t squad at all - some of these guys may not have played very well this season, but the likes of R.Wright, D.Wright, Bruce, Balkestein, McAuley, Norris, Walters, Civelli, Garvan, Quinn, Peters, Pablo, Stead, Rhodes, Wickham etc is NOT a poor squad at Championship level.

Even if it was, RK joined us last season and should have realised this a lot earlier than 7 games into the new season! Who did he bring in before the season started... Martin, Delaney, Healy... now at least 2 out of 3 of them are sh*t or at least have proved that so far!

Magilton's sh*t squad got us to a whisker of the playoffs.

Now don't get me wrong, i think Magilton had his time and i was glad to see Keane join and still want him to stay and succeed. But i'm not willing to think the sun shines out of his backside yet as he should have done much better with the squad he inherited or at least bought in better quality in the pre-season.

Finally he's making some decent signings, i really like the look of Leadbitter and i think Edwards, Rosenior and Priskin (once he settles) will enhance the squad.

I still believe and am not panicking yet, but Keane is not faultless so far!

Keano is acting too impulsively & it's bad for the team & for business.

If he didn't want Garvan, Wright, Macauley etc he should have sold them in the transfer window. He could have prepped the sale in June, found good priced 7 suitable replacements & we would have been away. Anyone in that team thinks one bad game & I'm going to be moved or sold. Not good for confidence.

If it comes down to a battle of wills with the players, they always win as they are the ones who actually play. A happy squad is always better.

I'm backing Keano 100% but he needs to walk round the block with the dog before swinging windmills at anyone who doesn't seem to fit in with him.

ps....we finished 1 place off the playoffs last year - that's not a sh** squad. It's a basis to build on!

I do not expect everyone to agree with me.................

You are correct some of the squad are decent, I am opposed to players who dont want it as much as the gaffer does.

Mcauley is one of them, and he is transfer listed - so hopefully the other one or two will follow!

Is Keane defending or attacking for our team?? No the players are the ones that the buck should stop with, our defending has been embarassing! There is no point Mcauley playing well for 85 minutes and then nearly costing us the game, sorry i for one am not having it!

1 place off the play off's is not promotion now is it?

Magilton took 3 years to do that, come on now, thats not a great record with 12 million in your pocket!

very mixed views on here today .....I'm with dobbie and thetruth .

Keane inherited a mish mash that was not going to get us up , he's sussed out that some haven't got the bottle.

get in a decent centre half and a goalscorer ( to replace Stead ) and give Priskin a run to settle in and prove his worth.

As for the idiot that threatened to support Man City .......go for it , you are no supporter of ITFC and won't be missed

I don't think McA and Keane suit each other. Which is why McA has had a difficult season so far. Maybe he's trying to impress to hard? I dunno.

But i say, thanks for last season, and for this season good luck!

byebyesheepshanks - we finished 9th on 66 points which was 6 points off PNE (6th Place). Either way though, it was a basis to build on.
