Keane Continuing Hunt for Loanees
Keane Continuing Hunt for Loanees
Friday, 2nd Oct 2009 10:18

Town boss Roy Keane continues to work on landing his two loan signings and now hopes to add his targets to his squad during the international break which follows Saturday’s game at Barnsley.

Keane said: “I’ve spoken to one or two managers in the last couple of days and in defence of the managers I’ve spoken to, they’re busy people themselves and it’s easier said than done.

“Nothing’s going to be done today, but we’ve got two weeks to play with after tomorrow ,with the international break, and we’re hoping for possibly two players. But there’s a long way to go with these deals yet because the clubs we are speaking to would be fairly reluctant. We’ll wait and see.

“I know there’s money available, I spoke to the owner again earlier on during the week. I’ve said we before, we could have £100 million to spend, but it’s trying to get the right players in.”

Keane says the delays in deals can be caused by a number of factors: “Sometimes it might be the demands of the player, the position the club are in, how busy the manager I’m speaking to is. There are lots of reasons.

“I have to be to quite understanding of the position we’re in and, trust me, there might be players not keen to come to a team near the bottom of the Championship.

“I understand that, but hopefully one or two players that we’ll speaking to will instead of seeing that as a downside, will see it as a big plus to come to a team that’s struggling and where they can come and play their part. It would help us, it would help them and we’ll all be winners."

Skipper Alex Bruce will again miss out due to the groin injury he suffered in last week’s game at home to Newcastle but should be OK after the international week.

Connor Wickham, who has also been suffering with a groin problem, will come back into Keane’s plans, along with Damien Delaney and Colin Healy, who were left out of the 18 at Sheffield United.

I can see us winning all the games in October, getting to top half of table just underneath play-off spot, RK getting manager of the month award, then the curse of the MoM award doing it's effect and us losing all games in November putting us right back at bottom again.

At least it would be amusing for the neutrals out there!

But seriously we need to start improving our home form. A couple of decent signings and some moral boosting are needed. COYB.

When he arrived, most of us thought Keane was just what the team needed, someone with a winning mentality, someone to instil a bit of grit and fight into the players. I'm pretty sure Keane has put a few rockets under people - if they don't respond, doesn't that say more about our players than Keane. I look at other teams and I see more fight and spirit, so I, for one, place the blame for our predicament firmly at the feet of the players - some of them plainly aren't good enough and Keane knows this, but he can't change the whole team in one go. I think he's brought in some decent players (Leadbitter and Edwards) but I also think he's bought some crap (Delaney and Healy). I'm sure he knows this and will get rid as soon as he can.

Never was, and I am not a RK fan. I won't knock him until the end of October. But he is not the sort of bloke I would want to work for. If I had a job at another club and was having to wait my turn, if I was getting paid and doing all right jack just why should I come play for a bloke like him?

How do we know what sort of bloke Keane is to work for? We're just assuming he's a prat given what we saw of him as a player. You get a hard boss, you don't have to love him as long as he's fair, you go out and try hard for him. Too many players still not trying enough.

Whoever we bring i hope ther going to be quality, a commanding cb even though i saw improvements in McCauley on Tuesday night..still one more commanding cb will add good competition in defence..
I would have been tempted to give Delaney a go at cb prior to tues nights game as i hear he played alot at cb for hull, with mccauley & smith having good games tht wont happen.
I guess the other loan is a goal scorer? healy? can't feel though we missed out on chopra!

For tomorrows game think rk will stick with same side and hopefully 3 points

Bought so badly its a joke, heard from an inside source that all his number 1 targets turned us down in the summer, so he goes and buys Priskin who is so weak, Delaney who is painfully bad and healy who hasnt played. Waste of time and money, bring back super jim

At the risk of repeating myself:

Having read all the posts on here ( I know nothing better to do!) I don't think I've ever known an issue divide Town fans so much. We currently find ourselves 'rock bottom' in the championship, quite frankly a position were just not used to holding. You can feel the 'panic' on this site, the sudden realisation that it's just possible we could get relegated just like the scum did last season, perhaps I wish I hadn't laughed quite so much now!!

The question is where do we go from here? The players are sadly lacking in confidence and certainly don't need the crowd to be booing them at the moment. I think ( & I can't believe I'm saying this) that we should give keane up to the Plymouth game to turn things around, if he hasn't by then I think Mr Clegg and co will act, who is appointed after that is a VERY important step if it happens. I make no apology for saying (because I said it on the day he was appointed) that Roy Keane is a mistake and that's because of who and what he is. As regards signings loans or otherwise, they may make a difference or just make the team even less cohesive? I believe we had the players here to push on, RK decided to start from scratch...his choice but will take time.

Look Guys & Girls we all love ITFC otherwise we wouldn't be posting on this site, lets at least all get behind the players and give them our support, win or lose, I always think Pompey ( and we think our position is bad!!) have truely great fans. I've watched Town play there many times over the years and seen those fans lift that team beyond their talent. At the end of the day that's all we fans can do to help.............. never mind who's managing the team right now WE can't change that so.................GET BEHIND THE LADS!!!

i love you to Geoffers, marhsallsmullet needs to open his eyes, been a season ticket holders for 25 years and i have never seen us so poor in all those years. he only has appointed RK for media coverage so he gets the hospitality contract for the olympic games in 2012, why do u think he appointed Clegg??!! now think about it. havent missed a game this season, how many you been to marhsallsmullet?? so pipe down

Nick I hoped you sensed the sarcasm lol, all good been a season ticket holder for 25 years. You should then realise that often teams take time to gel, with what your saying surely its evans u want out first.
Admittedly keane was more of a risky choice with his perceived personality etc than somebody like a curbishley. but once he's in the seat we need to back him. IF a new manager came in at this time it would mean starting the process all again!(and jim he took the team as far as he could)

The keane choice was always going to be a rollercoaster, if we're bottom at xmas well then I think everybody will say ok enough is enough keane aswell..im taking you saw the sheff u game and you would have seen the improvement…meaning surely we're gunna start pushing on up the league

Bring Back Magilton, what are you on about? I am bored of people like you talking rubbish on here, bring back super Jim, bring back Jordan, why dont we play Owen, bore off and support another club.

That man deserves a chance, not a 10 game stint, that is a pathetic call.

I forgot how amazing the football was last year, hardly good enough to bring back Jim, and dont forget Keano was responsible for 6 points!!!!

When are some of you going to realise that the players are men, they get paid to play the way they do, so why dont you give some of them a bit of stick, rather than taking the easy option and sticking it into Keano.

Do yourselves a favour and support your team. At the end of the day if it is that bad find abother club, because you clearly aint happy here.

I'm thinking more & more that the reason players are reluctant to join us is that, we are managed by Roy Keane!, Potential players must look at the Championship table & think to themselves that the manager hasn't got long left at this club, & I dont want to be stuck at a club languishing at the bottom of the CCC. You cant blame them for that!
Premier league players than Keane/Clegg desire are hard enough to get at the best of times, because they have to drop down a division, take a pay cut, & move families, let alone sign for a club at the bottom of the division.
Lets hope they can persuade somone soon!

I did not beieve we would sign anybody before this weekend that is why Clegg was giving the spin yesterday about still having money to spend, to deflect that we still have not addressed the defence problems after talking about it for six weeks and having the squad since May !! And if we review his signings and the players he has released it is not that great - Leadbitter a quality signing no doubt ,Edwards and Rosenoir doing ok but replacing Walters and Wright who have also done well in those positions in this league , Healy a waste of time nowhere near this standard and Delaney has been awful s far certainly not better than Harding,Richard or even Thatcher or Wright as left back,Martin done nothing as he did when he went out on loan before .
To those saying he is still sorting out a poor squad from before Shumi,Haynes and Clarke are all playing regularly for teams in the playoff positions or there about.Rhodes has scored regularly whether he would do that in this league we will not find out yet but people seem keen on signing Jackson or Beckford who also have only scored in Div 1. And he has told Stead , Garvan ,McCauley and Counago they can go if they want great confidence booster !
The team look like they dont know what is happening from week to week and to be honest i can hardly blame them ,hopefully a win tomorrow may start the rebuild of confidence but Barnsley will be no gimme after our start

I think Devontractorboy has it about right, regardless of whether you are a fan of RK or not.

I have swung from one extreme to the other, initially thinking it was a bad appointment, then being pursuaded by RK's positive and honest approach and more recently feeling he is simply repeating many of Jim's mistakes.

I do and always will wholeheartedly support whoever pulls on a blue shirt, but I don't feel I can say the same about the manager. Ultimately the buck stops with him - he's the one who buys the players, he's the one who picks the team, and he's the one who decides where and how they play. It doesn't matter how good or bad players are as individuals, a lot of it comes down to how they are set out to play and how well they are motivated by their manager. Confidence and man management are key.

Ipswich has never been a sacking club and we have rightly been rewarded in the past for our patience with managers. However, what I think people need to remember is that RK had two games last season to assess the team and then the entire pre-season to make changes. His continued talk about loan signings can be nothing other than unsettling for the current team and his failure to pick a settled side is no doubt having a negative impact on how we are playing. I agree entirely that a new team takes time to gel, but it will only do so if the same players are given plenty of time together on the pitch.

At the end of the season, based on the performances in the two games under RK I felt we were just a few players away from being a top six side. That team has now been dismantled and put back together with a number of new additions, but I can't honestly say that I think we now have a better team than we did last season, because I don't. Do we?

That said, I do feel that the team is just about good enough to get something from this season if, and this is a very big if, RK is able to instill confidence and get them playing football. I can take being bottom, I can take losing, what I can't take is a team that is set up to play 'football' that is based only around physical endeavour and moving the ball forward quickly. Ipswich has always been a club that has benefited from its attractive style of play and I struggle to believe that a man who played alongside the likes of Cantona and Giggs formulates tactics that are entirely bereft of any form of style or flair. We can't, won't and probably don't want to win solely because we run and tackle faster and harder than our opposition. Whilst I will watch whatever fare is on offer at PR, I certainly find it easier to watch good football and don't believe I am that much different from most fans.

What I hoped for when Jim went was that we would get a manager who wouldn't constantly change the team (as Jim did) and who would get us playing entertaining football as we did in relatively recent times under George Burley and even (dare I say it?) Joe Royle. This hasn't happened and all of these factors combined now leave me of the opinion that if we don't see stability and a drastic improvement by the end of October a change will be needed in order to avoid us following our friends from the north down the same slippery slope.

Sad I know and I really hope things are turned around (there is still time - just), but if not then we have to be pragmatic and take action.

The Truth... Keane hasnt had 10 games he has 5 months to sort out his team ,we all pay the same amount of money to watch and travel to the same away games and have opinions . The players are on their own when they go on the pitch but team formation , players on the pitch ,systems ,style, mid game tactics and confidence is down to the manager surely ?

Unfeckingbelievable: Prisken is quality and is starting to come good, his missed so much practice with the team when he first came because of internationals. @lightingboy you give RK october or what? Are you ME? If not all you'll do is go off and sulk like a little kid or go support another club. In which case don't let the door hit you in the ar$e on the way out. @BruceIsGod you name alone tells me you know nothing of football. My one hope is we can find someone else to nobble Bruce before he is fit again. Biggest waste of space and worst CB ever to wear the blue shirt. And don't let him go anywhere near RB either just get rid of him.

Just hope he signs the right players and 'right' included value for money!!! just because we have £100 mill doesnt mean we should go on a huge Man City spending spree.
