Keane: We Deserved to Win Saturday, 17th Oct 2009 19:22
Boss Roy Keane felt his side created enough chances to beat Swansea after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Portman Road. Swans manager Paulo Sousa was happy with the point, despite his side taking an early lead.
Keane said: "We're making progress and this gives us something to build on. It's certainly not doom and gloom.
"The players are training well and I can't fault them, but we just can't seem to put the ball in the back of the net. We had good chances in the second half and should have won the game.
“The lads thought Beattie was offside and we didn't need to concede an early goal because Swansea are good at keeping possession.
"It was a bad goal to give away as well, a straight ball over the top but our keeper hardly had a save to make, so there are signs that we are getting there. We just need that win to give everyone a lift.
"Swansea keep the ball well. They have got good players, but we had the better chances and I don't think we looked like a side at the bottom of the table."
Keane says he expects Richard Wright to react positively to being dropped having been left out for the first time this season to allow Asmir Begovic to make his debut: "It's my job to make decisions and I like to surprise people sometimes. It's good for players to recharge their batteries and chill out for one or two days. But I know Richard and I know his reaction to being left out will be first class."
Meanwhile, Keane says that the loan deal which was close to being done towards the end of the week has collapsed. On Friday, the Blues boss felt an addition might be made to the squad before the Watford game on Tuesday.
Swansea manager Paulo Sousa says Town are in a false position: "Ipswich belong at the top, not the bottom, and they have got some very good players here.
"For that reason, I'm happy with one point, although I'm always happier when we win. In the first half we controlled the game better and could have scored more goals.
"We had more possession but in the second half we weren't as direct as I would have liked. Sometimes you need to risk a bit more and be a bit more direct.
"We have to attack space quicker and attack different areas of the box, but overall I was very proud and happy with the result.
"Ipswich are having a difficult time and you have to have a great personality to come to a place like this. I'm a winner and I like my players to have a winning mentality."

As everyone keeps saying ..the next few weeks will decide things ...IF we get a win then the 4 weeks after that could decide our season and will decide the fate of RK ..if we win and then go on a run ...all will be forgotten ..however if we get a win and then lose the next few games or continue with the odd draw then we are heading for a relegation battle and possible drop ....so let's not forget a win won't solve much except give us a month to see more about the future ..

tractorboy. i agree that on paper that team looks good, and definatley NOrris has been a big miss for us, however the key to our success is not have we got 11 good players, but can the manager make them play as a unit week in week out. continuity and positive results will breed confidence, not constantly telling the press " we're getting there". i dont want Keane out, but I do want him to sort it out.

Despite not winning, I actually enjoyed the game & feel a lot more confident in the way we are improving in certain areas, I remain fully supportive of Roy Keane & sincerely believe that he will do well for us given time, David Wright & Jamie Peters were very much involved & should keep in the team in my opinion, Rosenior is showing real signs that he is settling in now, Macauley did what was required & defensively (apart from the goal we let in) I thought we looked considerably better, I am not convinced about Trotter yet though, I think he looks a little lazy sometimes, if he can show more effort & commitment maybe he will prove to be ok, time will tell, a win is very close now I'm certain, let's hope that it is Tuesday, I believe we can beat Watford, it's all starting to come together in my view, keep the faith, it's definitely coming, personally I wasn't too sure that all of the substitutions helped in retrospect, however, I thought that Connor Wickham showed some excellent class albeit that he could do with an injection of confidence, he will be a great Footballer in the next season or two, hopefully, of course, playing for Ipswich.

Oh and also, can someone please explain the reasoning behind brining Colback on for Trotter in the 92nd minute? I didn't see any..

To all of my fellow blue veined lads n lasses......I know there's going to be some revolt to this but....... I truly hope that ME comes out and says that RK's contract has been extended to 5 years. That'll take the pressue off of everyone. Especially from the press and us so-called followers.

ive been watching ipswich since the john duncan days and am so sad about the recent events. Anyone who watched us last season knows that all we need was 2 new players. An excellent CB and a prolific striker. We got neither. Roy keane has made some reasonable signings but shown no faith in them. Dropping people after 1 bad game is not the way. Everyone knows the key to success for a club like us is stability. Not bullying and throwing a strop. I have never called for a manager to be sacked before but someone needs to save us or we are going down. 4 changes a game is never going to be good for anyone. The result is a team who look like they dont know eachother. Ive never been a huge fan of stead but the fact is he was our top scorer last season. We got rid of two MFs in miller and shumi and didnt replace them til the season had started.. A huge error. Ok, so a transfer takes a long time, but other clubs seem to manage. I have never seen a town side who made me think the manager was clueless before. To round of this ramble, our new boss is yet to do anything right apart from a half decent signing or two. He has to go before we crash to league 1 and watch the buggies go past us. I will be there for every game in lower sbrs stand singing and yelling, but i want to take more pleasure from games than half time brandy and gallows humour. Keane out. Save the blues1 blue army for life!

Ipswich are in deep trouble, its ok supporting the new manager and the team but it seems that Keane is doing a poor job. I think we should have stuck with Malgilton, make no mistake we are in a religation battle and the team will need support. Last season the fans wanted Magilton out, they got their way, the average lifespan of a prem manager is 15 mths, money has ruined football and set fans expectations to high.

ASH_TJ - not sure, but maybe an indication of who'll be starting alongside Leadbitter Tuesday night. I hope so anyway, i'd like to see how they gel together. Wiggy...get a grip mate. You weren't that bloke i was sat next to talking about his washing machine and tumble dryer with his mate all game were you? A team who don't know each other? Swansea had one effort on goal Saturday and never really looked like scoring another. If we were a bit more clinical the other end we'd have won that game 3 or 4-1. Personally, i like Keane's no nonsense approach and played for a manager who adopted the same style. I think it weeds out the weak and gets people chomping at the bit to do and be better. Would have liked to see shumi stay but Miller was useless. Attracting high calibre players to Ipswich has always been a thankless task. No chance we'd have the quality of Leadbitter and Edwards without Keane. Which prolific striker and solid centre back is there out there at the moment!?

many people on here say they hav been 'supporting' the Town for decades. I remember one freezing cold night during the 86/87 season when we got beat 1-0 by Oldham. The crowd that night was 6000. Some of them were away fans, some i reckon hav moved away, some (R.I.P.) hav died. I was there. This is my Ipswich Town. Our problem yesterday was tension. Players afraid of the crowd, not willing to provoke the very vocal criticism that was still prevalent (in churchmans at least) choosing the safe, but easier to defend, safe pass, instead of the risky, and therefore less likely to be successful, but more damaging to the oppositions defence. Would be nice if u could here an 'unlucky son keep trying you'll get there' instead of the 'you f**king useless c**t' (witnessed with my own ears). This club is in serious trouble of being relegated, but not because of the players, manager, chairman or chief executive, its that section of the fans who slag off our own players. Our crowd used to be so respectful that we would applaud good play from the opposition. It was reactions such as this that made me proud to be Ipswich. Things like that that defined our club, why we were different. There seems very little respect now. We expect to beat these 'lesser' clubs. This is a very tight league ( a universally expressed opinion among football commentators, not just my own) and tiny things can make a difference. In my opinion we deserved to win yesterday as we have on other occassions this season. However i will be happy to wait longer for that elusive win if it means that that divisive element among drifts away and doesn't come back. I want to be proud to be ipswich again, not because we are winning trophys (tho i wouldn't say no :-) but because our fans are decent, respectful people. I leave you with this final thought, If you truly want to honour the late and Great Bobby Robson then you do that by behaving as he would. Could you imagine him spitting venomous abuse at anyone no matter what they had done? These fans bring shame on Bob's memory and on our club.

IF WE DON'T WIN ON TUESDAY . . . ROY WILL BE SACKED. IF WE ARE IN THE BOTTOM 3 OR ANYWHERE CLOSE TO IT BY CHRISTMAS, ROY WILL BE SACKED. It would be nice if things could work out for him, but if we don't win on Tuesday, let's hope there is a strong contingency plan. I want to start enjoying football at our fantastic, traditionalist football club again.

Its all very well RK saying ,we should have or deserved to win .We all know from time to time every team loses a game they deserved to win,''sh.t happens'',but in truth it dose not happen too many times,it could be just biased oppinion.Fact is if we DID deserve to win all of these games we WOULD have.So sorry,i dont buy it, i am beggining to have bad dreams, where Curbishly comes in, im also having bad dreams of Keane staying and us getting relegated,Something has got to happen and soon. Living in Norfolk, im at a stage where i need to put a bag over my head when i go for my pint.

I can't believe some of the comments on here - though pleased to see most people are finally removing their Keane-tinted specs. A blog last week tried to defend Roy's purchasing of loads of players rather than trying to build slowly. Firstly, mass-change never, ever works. Even if we needed a revolution it should have been done with 2-3 players in the summer and a further 2-3 in winter etc etc. Secondly, the mass-change has just left Roy confused with what formation to play, hence multiple changes game after game. And resting players on Tuesday after a Saturday this early in the season is a joke. We need stability. Finally, on Saturday, if you ignore the pointless goalkeeper change (a position that definitely did not need changing) we have a total of two Roy signings on the pitch. David Wright finally comes back, but is playing on the left! I think Rosenior is a decent player, but right-back is most definitely not a position we needed to change - and nor was right-midfield. I know the 'Walters on the right' trick wasn't as effective as it used to be, but he's so much better out there than he is up front. Yet he has still failed to get a centre-back in. He's signed loads of players (many of which he already seems to have decided aren't good enough (Martin, Priskin, Delaney, Healy off the top of my head) yet he's completely fasiled to sign a player in the one position all of us identified in the summer as needing the most attention. Yet some of you still blindly say 'In Keane we trust'. Why? What has he done to give you any indication whatsoever that he should be trusted? To re-interate. To criticise the manager or players is not a failure to support the team. That's the whole point. We support the team, not any individual. If they're not good enough, and they're in danger or ruining our team why on earth should we support them? There, got that of my chest! Here's hoping we can look back on this spell and laugh. But at the moment I doubt it.
