Rosenior Expected Reading Reception
Rosenior Expected Reading Reception
Monday, 9th Nov 2009 16:23

Full-back Liam Rosenior says he expected a hostile reception from Reading fans on Saturday, having been booed by them while playing for the Royals last season. The 25-year-old, on loan from Saturday’s opponents for the season, was one of Town’s best performers at the Madejski Stadium and appeared to enjoy his role as pantomime villain.

Rosenior said: “I expected it. To be honest I was getting booed last season when I was playing for Reading.

"But I've got nothing but respect for the fans here. I had a bit of banter with them and I hope they don't take it too seriously.

"It was nice to come back and see so many friendly faces and Reading was a great club to play for."

The ex-Fulham man felt the Madejski Stadium fans got behind their team and expects the Royals to move away from the division’s lower reaches: "The fans were good. They weren't too happy about me but they stuck by the Reading lads and if they do that I'm sure that things will change.

"I wasn't out there trying to prove a point, though you always want to do well against your old club. I felt I played quite well when I was at Reading and showed I'm a half-decent player.

"I just wanted to do my best for Ipswich because we're in a similar situation as Reading."

Town paid Reading £200,000 for Rosenior’s services for the season and are paying his entire wage during the spell. The right-back is out of contract next summer and has no plans to return to Berkshire.

Meanwhile, Alex Bruce has revealed he played with an injury during Town’s 4-0 home defeat to Newcastle in September, something he now regrets.

The Irish international was subbed after 39 minutes with a groin problem which saw him miss the following few games.

Bruce said: “I made myself look a mug. I was struggling right from the start and knew within five minutes in my first sprint that I should not have played.

“I tried to carry on but couldn't. It dented my pride to come off when we were 3-0 down.

“I have learnt my lesson that you cannot take chances with muscle injuries like you can with knocks.

“I had kept the injury quiet, and it was frustrating and a massive disappointment to have to come off.”

Meanwhile, Bruce says midfielder David Norris isn't far away from returning from his knee injury: “David is looking great in training and it'll not be long before he is back.

“I can see him and Grant Leadbitter linking well together in the middle of the park, which can only be good.”

It was fantastic to see Liam do a lap of honour a la Matt Holland at the end of the Derby game and also his tenacity in his Man of the Match performance at Reading on Saturday. We definitely need to get this boy on a long term contract a.s.a.p.

Rosenior is an excellent RK signing. Good of Bruce to be honest and good to know - as I thought his performance on that day was very poor.

gotta say I really hope we sign rosenior on a long term contract, as said above he came and gave all 4 stands a clap after the final whistle, jus like matty holland used to do, im somewhat suprised he was the only 1 to do this though, shows he respects, us the fans. great to see and is what goes a long way to becoming a fans favourite. decent player too, sign him up !!

i like rosenior a lot...one of those players that shows true passion which always gets the crowd going. played v well on saturday and has been very solid and consistent the whole time he has been here. really hope we get him in for the long term, although i fear if we dont show any signs of true progression by the end of the year, hes going to look for somewhere in the premiership and i wouldnt blame him.

cant say im hugely impressed about that bruce news, its a team game and you cant do something like that and think you can get away with it, especially against newcastle...as for him being honest jas0999, if he was honest he would have admitted he was carrying an injury in the 1st place. yes it shows commitment and fight, but we need 11 fully fit players out there....but good news about norris!!

Yep, Rosenior is ace. My Housemate is a Fulham fan, and he has a Fulham shirt with Rosenior on the back and he was really sad to see him leave. If we can keep him that will be a real coup, because he is the calibre of a promotion and premiership team imo. He is calm on the ball, wants the ball, has class and a great motor.
Quinn was awful on Saturday, and I cannot wait for Norris to get back. We are desperately short in the middle, choosing between Trotter and Quinn really is an achilles heal.

Still, roll on January, and let's keep the cull going and replacements coming in!

Bruce? Worst performance? Not sure really, he has had some stinkers and shouldn't really be near the 1st XI, perhaps warming the bench with his backside is his best position. Delaney has done okay at CB and its clear to anyone with half an idea that both McAuley and Tommy Smith are better CB's than Bruce. Injured? Reason for playing so badly? Yeh, okay.

Rosenior - got some stick? A player leaving a sinking ship to join another one and stating how he wants to stay at Ipswich beyond the loan spell... I wonder why the Reading fans were so hostile. No, its beyond me.

This is a none news item.

Delaney has done ok? Bit of an understament he was MOM for me on saturday though I understand a lot of people went for Rossi who for me was a very close second. Delaney is a natural CB. Smith is going to be good, but is still very inexperienced. I agree McA is a better CB than Bruce but Bruce has done ok the last two games. He hasn't gone missing like he normally does but still think McA and Delaney would be my preferred pairing.
