McAuley Withdrawn From Northern Ireland Squad

Gareth McAuley's withdrawal from the Northern Ireland squad facing Serbia in a friendly in Belfast on Saturday has been confirmed. The defender is not yet over the thigh injury he sustained at Plymouth.

On Friday, manager Roy Keane said that McAuley would not be joining up with the Northern Irish squad if he was unable to play for the Blues at Reading.

Town have a number of other players away on international duty before the live home Sky game with Sheffield Wednesday on November 21st (KO 5.20pm).

Loan keeper Asmir Begovic is with Bosnia as they take on Portugal in their World Cup play-off, Jaime Peters is with Canada for a friendly, Tamas Priskin is with Hungary, also for a friendly, while Owen Garvan is with the Irish U21s and Ronan Murray is with the Irish U19s for European qualifiers.

Keeper Brian Murphy, who formally joins the Blues from Bohemians on a Bosman in January, is with the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup play-off with France.

Hope Gareth recovers quickly. He's one of our better defenders. Once he gets his confidence, he's a pretty good player. Ironically, he was just starting to play really well again and got injured.
Gareth is like most players - he's a confidence player. What he, or any of the others, doesn't need, is our own fans getting on his back. Destroying the confidence of your own players is pretty stupid. Thought that was obvious.

...Or the manager getting on his back telling him he can leave when he's having a mini crisis, another example of Keanes ineptitude, poor man management, no wonder he Garvan, Richard Wright etc etc don't know which way's up at the moment. Gareth was one of our better players last season and was coming on well, so hope he recovers soon.
As for Keane the sooner he's gone the better, the mans a buffoon!!!

devontractorboy - goodness me! How negative! Fact: Richard Wright made a number of critical point dropping errors - not one or two but many. McAuley - likewise. Garvan - well the hardcore ITFC fan will tell you he is lazy and has not even made an impression in the reserves. This begs the question - do you actually know what you are talking about? Either get behind Roy and the Team (FIVE games unbeaten) or pee off and support another side.

McAuley was struggling, Keane let it be known that he could leave, and McAuley responds by coming back into form. This was not incompetence - Keane knew exactly what he was doing, and kicked McAuley into action. Good management.

Jas0999 Goodness me aren't you clever....we are 2nd bottom in the Championship in case you hadn't noticed and yes of course I've seen the side play I spend enough money (alot more than you if you're in Suffolk) going to as many games as I can. I will not and never have supported Roy Keanes appointment, some of you on here think that bullying the players is good management, management by fear, Hmmmmm interesting but that style went out years ago. Please don't tell me to go and support another side when I've been going to games since the 1960's, I my fellow fan am a true fan, because I hold certain opinions, which you can rightly disagree with, it doesn't give you the right to use abuse towards me.

Roy Keane so far has been an abject failure (FACT), as I've said before if he turns it around I'll be the first to apologise, but I like many others on here don't think he will, so I'll keep posting my opinions and you can keep disagreeing, it would be a sad place if we all agreed but don't question my loyalty to the club when you don't even know me.Oh & 'Do I know what I'm talking about' , probably no more or no less than others on here, but in a country where free speech is just about still allowed I'd like the opportunity to give my six peneth worth!!!!!!!

Oh & Fixed-it I'm a management consultant, trust me, that's not good management and it usually has adverse effects on other members of the team.

Sleep well guys!

Jas0999,i consider myself a hardcore fan as i have seen every game this season and a few reserve games and i dont think Garvan is lazy i think he is a very talented footballer who has shone in some reserve games only for Healy to be selected in the first team squad above him ? I would rather fans like you pee off and support another side than ones who question when things are going wrong which quite clearly they are !!!!
Ferguson sacked for taking a newly promoted side to bottom of the league spending no money ,Keane has taken a comfortable top 10 side to the same postion spending millions ,you really need to look at the big picture he has a 14% win rate as our manager and two of his wins came with Jims team this is shocking at any level of football .
Oh no i am now a Norwich fan ? Shall i rip up my season ticket ? I support Ipswich Town FC not Roy Keane FC and will long after he has gone

JAS0999 good management, your kidding. Keane is a poor poor manager, and as surco so rightly pointed out were at the same level as peterborough who two seasons ago were in league 2!

I cannot believe people are still being slated for not supporting Keane and airing there views! Its a joke - the people who want him out are in general the ones who make sensible comments, and the pro keaners are the ones who turn to insults and name calling, when uin fact they do that as they have little left to stand on in the 'in keane we trust' chants!

If you trust Keane your an idiot

Surco72 & callumgarryskeeper well put guys, I'm fed up with 'In Keane we trust' people when we're in a dreadful position and a relegation battle is becoming more likely, will these people still trust Keane if we get relegated to the THIRD tier of English Football? It's been well over a season now when we've struggled to score goals, or to finish teams off when we go a goal up. Keane has had no impact on this and our -11 goal diference shows this.
Feel sorry for Darren Ferguson after what he achieved at Peterborough, Keane should be feeling a pretty lucky guy at the moment!!!!
