Villa Linked With Wickham Move
Villa Linked With Wickham Move
Thursday, 12th Nov 2009 08:44

Aston Villa are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for Town youngster Connor Wickham. Chelsea were mentioned in connection with the 16-year-old last month and are one of a number of top flight sides who have been keeping an eye on him since his days as an academy schoolboy.

FA rules mean that Wickham is unable to sign a professional contract with the Blues until his 17th birthday on March 31st, but Town have always been confident that the 6ft 3in tall frontman will put pen to paper on a deal as soon as he can.

Wickham, whose youth also prevents him from going out on loan this season, recently netted a hat-trick for England’s U17s in a European Championships qualifier against Azerbaijan and was on the bench during Town’s 1-1 draw at Reading on Saturday. He scored his first senior goals in the Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury in August.

Callum Keane said " i have a year contract and within that 2 years i want to get ipswich promoted, if i can do it in one fantastic but 2 years is my target, if i dont get them promoted after those 2 years then i would have failed."

In his first conference with Clegg he said he thinks he can get us up in one year. OK he didnt promise but either way he is falling way short.

How is he falling way short? even if we finish 4th bottom this year then promoted next year he would have done what he wanted.
thats why mi giving him my support - until jan at least.

Super you honestly believe we would finish 4th bottom the miraculously get promotion the 2nd year? No disrespect but I think yuor way wide of the mark in regards to our current situation. Yes I get slated on here for my views but I am right and when he goes you will all see that i'm right. He is not managing our club he is right royaly fcukin it up! Were in alot of trouble and will be battling for survival all season! We cannot beat the teams in and around us think about when we lpay all the big teams again can you honestly ee us picking up points again cardiff middlesbrough newcastle I cant! thinks have you ever seen a club go fro where we were last season and take such a big drop the next. The soner he goes the better for us, but the longer it takes to get rid the more likely league 1 football seems! Dont hate me for saying my opinion

ok so callum tell me this then - Reading are the same as us in wrong posision but are a good team, plymouth to.
so we get to end of season and reading are top10 plymouh say 13th - you telling me that you then woulnt be happy with a point away to both but wins at home to both - would that actually not be a good result - i firmlly dont see eitherof us being where we are next year.
And yes we could be 4th bottom then promotion - we went from 5th in the premiership to relegation didnt we?

CGS - every manager pisses me off with some decisions, that's the nature of football. What all this rubbish on here basically boils down to is that some fans are more patient than others. As i said in a previous comments, i'd much rather see the squad of players we have now than what we had under Magilton.

Whoever used the 1 point off the players statement to back Magilton up, do me a favour! We never once looked like getting in the play offs last season. At least, bizzarely enough despite our position there's an air of optimism about the place still.

A mate said to me, 'the problem is you think you're a big club and you're not'. He's right we're not, we've just got the backing now to be a big club so sit tight y'all and lets see where we are after Christmas.

Callum..yes i have see a team make a bigger drop..we finished fifth in the prem and then got relegated the next year....
you really are a knob...
the club needed changing from top to bottom (ironic phrase..lol)..we are going throught the process..mid table or knocking on play offs this year..promotion next...
its a no brainer..much like yourself!!

ok so questions for all those "magiltons squad was fine"
if its that good why are you askig for more defenders? why are you asking for more strikers? more midfielders?
surely keane should stick with the same team? save money?
id rather replace the whole team and next year watch fast attractive attacking football.
not the drab we had been playing - wow long bal to walters never saw that coming

I am a total RK supporter and feel he is doing what he has to do to turn our club around from where it was to where all of us want it to be...
thats said..i didnt like the sale of Jordan Rhodes not one bit for the meagre sum we got it was worth hanging on to someone displaying the talent he was showing..
I would like to see someone of keanes stature be able to persuade Wickham that Ipswich is a good place for him to be for a couple of seasons and then see where the club is at that time and also if he fulfills the obvious potential he has..
if Keano is unable to do that then i would start to wonder whether he is what i thought he would be...a big name- able to attract, choose and keep quality...

Oh come on Chripswich

Ipsiwch or Man utd or chelsea - who would you pick - be honest, forget loyalty in this recession hit country would you take a £10,000 pay cut just to play for town?
if Wickham goes it will be his choice no one elses decision

chripswich you mug that was going from 5th to relegation, donw not up, alot easier to do. fcuk off you pr*ck start calling me a knob.

Keanish as you prob aware I do lack in patience! maybe im too negative, in any case it is very rare for a team to be so poor one season to then suddenly be challenging for promotion the next, if we are to challenge next yer we need to make massive strides this year or else we will not be promoted. I know we went from fithf to relegation but that is going down (which is easier to do, look at us now) than up.

But callum - being serious bud, how many seasons under george did we have a crap start only after xmas did we actually push up, i remember many seasons of thinking were going down this year to then finish in the playoffs - same as royle and jim.
thats why we ask, why not back the town and even keane and give him until jan, see whats happenbing then - ill make a pact, if you dont swear or continue to abuse poelpe lol so cant spell, i promise that come jan if we are in the bottom 7 i will join you in getting keane out

flude..
the boys sixteen years old..if Keano can put an arm round him mentor him and look after him for a couple of years...why wouldnt he stay?..why would he want to get lost in the melee of the superclubs..we need to give him a good wage and keanes interest...and the promise of a big club move at 19 or 20 if thats what he wants..of course he would we all know that!!
we are forgetting Keane is a world icon..we are actually quite lucky to have him..(Cue the derision from the Keano outers) i think we all forget that sometimes

hence my comment that if he cant persuade the likes of wickham to ply his trade at a good club where he wont get "lost"..under the watchful eye of one of the biggest footballing names of his generation..then one of the biggest reasons to have Keane as a boss dissapears...and so might as well - he!

K super you got a deal! The problem being I think Jan will be too late1
However for the sake of you and everyoen on here I will not abuse Keane on here and call for his head, also I will not swear!

Chris my view is tnhat he has ruined a average to good team from last eyar and turned s into bottom three team! Yes there is time left but at the end of the day we cannot beat the teams around us!

But in the spirit of a deal I will nto say bad word about keane in an aggressive manager until Jan, although he mite be gone by then!

one last time KEANE OUT

Gatesy you are talking utter rubbish, I know Connor and he has a flat in Ipswich that the club have paid for so I reckon if Martin O'neil wanted to talk to Connor then he would be in ipswich and certainly not colchester having a chinwag with Connors family. He's not going anyway it's just another story to fill up a tabloid

Ha, I'm honestly starting to think that CGS is a plant. The boys who run this site must be giving him a cut of ad revenue or something.

It's impossible to say the stuff you say, you're not that daft I know it, and I know you get a kick out of being a wind up merchant.

TWTD - Defend yourselves! Are you anything to do with CGS?

need to keep this one, we didn't let Rhodes develop into a really good player before selling him so we can't afford to do the same with Wickham, he will be a good player, so we have to sign him up!!
