Villa Linked With Wickham Move
Villa Linked With Wickham Move
Thursday, 12th Nov 2009 08:44

Aston Villa are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for Town youngster Connor Wickham. Chelsea were mentioned in connection with the 16-year-old last month and are one of a number of top flight sides who have been keeping an eye on him since his days as an academy schoolboy.

FA rules mean that Wickham is unable to sign a professional contract with the Blues until his 17th birthday on March 31st, but Town have always been confident that the 6ft 3in tall frontman will put pen to paper on a deal as soon as he can.

Wickham, whose youth also prevents him from going out on loan this season, recently netted a hat-trick for England’s U17s in a European Championships qualifier against Azerbaijan and was on the bench during Town’s 1-1 draw at Reading on Saturday. He scored his first senior goals in the Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury in August.

Surco - the squad is without question better, but in my opinion Keane shouldn't have brought in the amount of players he did. I think because of this we are currenty languishing. They've taken longer than expected to gel. I don't think this makes Keane a bad manager and i'm convinced it'll come good as soon as Priskin starts finding the net.

I would rather pay my money to watch Rosenior, leadbitter and priskin than Miller, thatcher and clarke.

Surco what you also seem tomiss is the fact that Keane has admitted plenty of times that he has a lot of bad wood, but no one is taking them off his hands, now for me, if you mix good with bad and even worse players together the good get bad the bad get worse and the worse get rediculous.
7 month in charge - 2 end of season games and pre-season and 17 games (apologies if i've got the last figure wrong) this still isn't enough time for Keane to have his dream team in place - ME isn't going to give Keane all the free money in the world and has told him that he needs to get rid before purchasing more, the problem is we cant get rid of these players - hence the reason why Keane let Rhodes go, it gave him the opportunity to bring in replacements for a lackluster squad, yes magilton had decent players in the team - but he had plenty of awful ones to which we cant seem to shift - For me the team is looking better and come Jan if we are lucky some of the dead wood will go, more new faces will come in and the squad wll be good overall.

Lets look at Healy my good an awful player - But! in training, he's very very good at tackling and I believe he's used as a coaching player so to speak for attacking players like leadbitter to get past etc.
You don';t just use plastic players in training.

Wickham market like the young player connor has great potential, why so cosmopolitan are we that we even have an italian market here this weekend,in amongst the salami and parmesan you can buy Buffon, Marchetti Cannavaro, Zambrotta,Grosso and Rossi, ok they may cost a few euros but well worth it, no need then to worry then about Wickham going to villa. but anyway If all else fails we still have Priskin and stead to bang in the goals

Put yourself in Wickham's shoes (boots?). Under Keane every other promising youngster at PR has been either sold - Rhodes, Haynes (yes Haynes I believe is promising), or sidelined - Garvan, whilst millions have been spent to bring in players that have not improved the squad.

If a manager of Martin O'Neill's stature came in for me and the alternative was to remain under Keane, I'd even tolerate living in the Birmingham area.

Superflude .. please list these deadwood players that are stopping Roy from being a good manager and holding back our team so badly !!!
Straws and clutching springs to mind ,mate

Garvan, Lisbie, , Counago - i like counago but hes a sub player at best, Mcauley, R. Wright, A.Bruce, Thatchers still on the books,
So certainly not clutching at straws.

Souper -

I think to be honest, some fans have memories like goldfish.

1) Did you see us under Jim? We were utterly poor, and would never have got any higher than we were with that team.

2) Jim has said that he left behind a poor town squad, and has inherited far better at QPR

3) we have been criminally unlucky this season. Had Wright not given points away in the last minute of games, and our confidence been shredded by it, this inquisition would be very shallow in comparison.

4) things will come good. calm, down.

Garvan and Thatcher when fit are not training with the first team ,Lisbie is at Colchester . How are they affecting the first team performances ?
Bruce was leaving Keane gave him a new contract and made him captain !!
Wright was our player of the year last season and Macauley our best defender for most of the season .
And getting rid of Counago would be ridiculous he is the only forward who can link or create as the last games have shown ,did you not watch the Derby game before he came on ?
Just cause Roy does or says something you dont have to agree with it

Alot of people on here take Keanes wiord as gospel!

Wickham wont go yet but next season if we are not challenging for promotion!

Putyabootsonkeano, you cannot blame wright for dropped points it is the players in front of him!

The players superfludeblue listed are def not deadwood! Wright Garvan Counago

And if Keane is so great, why did he stick with the deadwood defenders (Macauley bruce and thatcher) and not buy suitable replacements. and dont say Delaney cos he has only just moved to centre back!

Callum - I guess you havent watched any games - because Thatcher hasn't played mate lol - injured!!!!.

and come Jan we will see a couple of CB's in - and alos we may see a top class CB in Delaney yet - not saying he is callum but he could be!.

you can't buy 11 new players without having to seel some first, and Keane bought some in who he felt he needed first, and im guessing he also though some clubs may have come in for some players but that hasn't happend.
And Callum Garvan is dead wood mate.

Put ya boots on - im the positive one on here - im saying what you just said lol, we didnt have a great squad last year and we're slowly bringing in a promotion quality team.

Surco i dont agree with what keane says i dont actuall listen to any of it - I know what happens at the club and I know that players have to leave before bringing in new ones.

But im not saying Mcauley bruce counago are crap players- they just arent promotion quality players.

FormerlyCGS added 14:51 - Nov 12
I know Thatcher has been injured, but Keane has not replaced him or sold him!

0

superblueflude added 14:53 - Nov 12
how can you sell an injured player? lol
and he didnt really need replacing as we have D.Wright and once keane the best out of him hes our reg left back so no need for thatcher - so once fit get rid i reckon.
And i do wander - could keane maybe hav bought delaney for CB? just a thought

FormerlyCGS added 15:12 - Nov 12
He did not buy him as a centre back he played him left back all season! Only when we had injuries he had to move him in centre and seems he has got lucky and he has done ok there!

Once he got the best out of david wright??? He played excellent all last season and did not need to be dropped.

You fight Keanes corner at every opportunity, does he not pis s you off with some of his decisions? Does it annoy you that we are ibn relegation zone!

superblueflude added 15:22 - Nov 12
Callum come on u know me - yes im pis sed of where we are but i know give it a month we'll be out off bottom 3 and moving up.
and yeah some decisions are totally weard and i honeslt understand he does make mistakes - but we all do.
all im saying is that we dont have a promotion team and neither did jim, and i dont buy this whole thing of only needed a couple of changes we didnt we need a full promotion quality team and i think we're getting there.

Callum, I have been reading your comments and find them odd. Were you not saying Keane was OK after the meeting with the fans at the AGM? Also with your very opinionated views I take it you are a retired ex pro as you seem to know so much. I know this is all about opnion but yours seems so far off the mark, have you actually been to any games or even played the game yourself?

chalkandcheese added 15:43 - Nov 12
thatcher has been told to move closer to ipswich , he wont, keane said he could leave, he wont ( As Jim gave him a good contract and he knows he cant get else where) so thatcher is just seeing out his time unless he feels he needs to be playing and can take a pay cut, or we pay him off.....

he has no injuries, keane has made it clear that he is not in his plans full stop...

Jim got in to many average at best!! players on very good wages...

FormerlyCGS added 15:53 - Nov 12
Opinionated views ex pro? No mate I am able to read the league table and keep track on his expensive flops and players he has sold who are now doing well!

How can my comments be so far off the mark when critisising a manager who has over seen one win in 17 odd games? They seem to be alot closer to the mark than alot of others!

After the AGM I said he was good for admitting his mistakes but does not mean I support him, I would rather he just did not make them!

Superflude 'all im saying is we dont have a promotion team' - Why not? Keane promised promotion in year one! We finished 1 point of the play offs and are now alot further away from promotion than we were this time last year! I wanted Jim out, but not for someone who would do this, if we could go back I would have jim stay anyday!
