QPR Linked With Garvan Move
QPR Linked With Garvan Move
Tuesday, 17th Nov 2009 09:04

Jim Magilton’s QPR are the latest Championship club to be linked with a move for out-of-favour Town midfielder Owen Garvan. Rangers are said to have made an enquiry regarding taking the Irish U21 international skipper on loan.

Garvan, who has also been linked with Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and Scunthorpe in recent days, was a Town regular under Magilton’s management but hasn’t featured for Roy Keane’s side since August.

The Dubliner misses tonight’s Republic of Ireland U21 game in Armenia as he is suspended.

Surco72 - Jim's words, not mine! He was quoted as saying he inherited a far better squad at QPR than he left at Ipswich ... says a lot for 3 years of HIS building, eh? So it figures that Keano has a fair amount of work to do to fix things. Rebuilding, rebuilding, rebuilding. Keano didn't inherit a promotion-chasing side - he inherited one that was getting played off the park and thrashed at home by the likes of Donny and Southampton. I would be willing to bet if Jim had still been here then we would still be in much the same position, because the team last season was utter tripe and without a massive overhaul would have got worse. We are where we are because that overhaul is not finished yet.

And as for the 'you will never play for me again' cobblers, wasn't that pretty much exposed as media troublemaking? All the media WANT Keano to fail, and some of you gullible folks just lap it all up!

Vemund, just curious as to how you reckon the last season under Magilton was quality, because from where i was sitting it was mind numbingly dire. Garvan ,the lad could be good but really his best option is to leave and grow up. He has been molly-coddled here for too long and frankly he is no Gasgoigne who you pamper because he is so special. All the best to the lad but his future is in his own hands-sort yourself out Owen whether it is here or someplace else.
Dobbie sums it up nicely for me.

Dobie you have ignored the fact that Keane said this squad was good at the start of the season "his words not mine" !!
And as for the paper cobblers since he said that comment Garvan has not been involved even in the squad even though his replacements have been playing as badly as he did at West Brom repeatedly and the team have been playing poorly ? Not paper stirring ,fact .
We also beat Qpr,s better squad last year home and away and thrashed promoted Burnley 3-0 at their ground if we are picking individual results. And maybe if Civelli hadnt got injured at a crucial time could have sneaked an albeit undeserved play off spot and who knows ?
To blame our prediciment now on overhaul and the squad being so poor only high lights the fact that Keane could not assess the abilities of the squad he inherited during pre season and Leadbitter was only bought due to injury of Norris .
If jim could get such a poor team to win some games why cant Keane after spending money improving it ?

brogansnose, I do have to agree with you that in Jim's final season he was not at his best.

Nonetheless, he WAS our highest goal scoring and assisting midfielder and was again in the top three for fans' player of the season (which Richard Wright ended up winning, before we realised how stupid we had all been and decided that, yes, he's terrible as well) even though he was a bit in and out of the squad as Jim liked to shake things up almost as much as Keane does now. My point above was that he needs consistant games. Now he's not getting that here and he's being a bit of a crybaby about it so he probably will do better to move and further his career elsewhere.

As for Dobbie's claim that the media want Keane to fail, well, you may be half right there. HALF of the media want him to fail and will make up any old story to bring him down, but he has the other half eating out of his hands, much the same as on these boards. With such a polarising character, that's always going to happen.

Not sure that throwing around quotes by RK and Jim is going to get us anywhere. They have both said some pretty daft things to the press in the past.

All managers are judged on their results and clearly Jim is way ahead of RK at present.

As to OG, I don't think that he's terrible, but I've witnessed his inconsistency with my own eyes. He's 21, not 12 and he needs to get his act together sharpish.

Surco72 - touche! Yes, Keano did say that ..... maybe not the cleverest thing he ever said, in public at least. But maybe if he had slagged off the squad it may have caused even more upset?!??

As to the whole Garvan thing .... I (like 99.9% of you I suspect) do NOT know what goes on in the background. I know that Garvan is not the player he was, and that started years ago when he had his issues (can't remember if that was under Royle or Jim), but I do know that Jim struggled to get the best out of him, as Keano is too. If he is any sort of player, he will take it on the chin and come back a better player as David Wright did. If he is going to have hissy fits and moan, then he will never get anywhere except on the next train out of Ipswich.

I suspect Garvan's future is very much in his own hands.

Am i reading bthis right CGS?

'I thought we had established that yes he is playing badly in the reserves, bt given a run in the first team, to build his fitness and confidence he would play alot better.'

Why would you get a run in the first team if you can't do it for the B team!!? Football doesn't work on blind faith, it's about blood, sweat and tears!

Although i like seeing the headline 'Garvan lashes in stunner'!! Come on Garvan, sort it out and come good.

Like i said in my other post Dobie no manager is going to join a new club and say they are not good its just not going to happen .

I for one hope Garvan can be given a chance and that not to much water has passed under the bridge, because i seriously believe he could be doing a job right now our passing and keeping the ball is desperately poor which only puts us under more pressure especially the defence. But like you say nobody knows what has been said or happened between the two , but Garvan has been documented as being one of the hardest trainers who regularly stays behind for extra training in the past ,who knows ? 7 goals in 22 starts last season ,his best scoring season but not the player he was ?

David Wright is another debate , i do not believe he has come back a better player ,he has come back the player he was last season before he was dropped for no reason and should have played all season ,no coincedence the defence has looked better since his return .IMO

I will stress i am certainly not anti Mr Keane and would be delighted if he succeeds but will not argue with those saying he must go on speculation that we will turn it around ,we will start a run and push up the league and play entertaining football, because i am talking through my eyes and not my heart and most have been saying this run was going to start over 2 months ago now

Last season Garvan was in team ofthe week more than any of our other players!

Nobrain,
"All managers are judged on their results and clearly Jim is way ahead of RK at present."
Keano got Sunderland to the promised land, what has Jim done?
CGS we can not afford OG a run in the first team when he is not even showing any consistancy in the reserves.

I think that we have very good midfielders in the squad, the likes of trotter, leadbitter, edwards, civelli, norris, quinn and Garvan
so it is very hard for him to get in the team. I think that he is pure class and obviously it shows the quality we have in the squad if he cant get in
Keano you would be stupid getting rid of him as he is one of the better academy players that we have brought through, loan hiom yes to get him more expserience but not sell him as it will backfire
Lets keep on supporting him as obviously he is going through a rough patch at the moment but he must be doing something right to get picked and be captin of the Irish under 21

I totally agree with devontractorboy re : his comments about Roy Keane . A manager needs to gain respect and that is not done by ranting and raving at people , chopping and changing your mind and showing a general lack of direction with numerous inconsistencies .All this leads to a sad ,muddled and desperate situation which is exactly where we find ourselves . I'm a believer in Garvan - a player who can pass accurately and can show flair . Keane crushes confidence . I feel some fans interpret Keane's " misdirected strength "as strong leadership! I beg to differ !

pickles what has Keane getting Sunderland promoted 3 seasons ago got to do with Ipswich ?
Sunderland were favourites and had more money totally irrelevant . Judge the managers on how they manage Ipswich ,Keane has managed 3 wins and two of those were with Jims team which was apparantly so poor .

@DevonTractorBoy you really must stop believeing what you read in the newspapers and rumour mongering on here and other sites. Every objection you cited against RK you have not one shred of actual proof for none exists. Read the interviews with the players themselves or listen to them they all want to play for RK do you think that would be the case if he was even half as bad as you have stated. Also he has not lost the dressing room even though 9 out of 10 managers would have done by now with our start to the season.
