Keane: Loans Likely in January
Keane: Loans Likely in January
Monday, 7th Dec 2009 16:50

Boss Roy Keane says that Town are more likely to look at loan signings than permanent additions to the squad in January. The Blues have the likes of David Norris and Luciano Civelli returning from injury and Kevin Lisbie will be back from his loan at Colchester, while a number of other players currently out of the first team picture could be sent out on temporary spells.

Keane told the official site: "David should be available in January and Kevin will be coming back to this club then as well, so that might be it for us.

"We might look at getting a loan or two in to cover the areas we need to fill, but you don't want too many players left in the background.

"We have a reasonable size squad and we've got some good players here like Colin Healy and Liam Trotter who have not played recently and they should be playing week-in, week-out.

"If I bring in players then I have to leave others out. That's why I'm happy if some of my players want to go out on loan.”

Earlier today, Keane confirmed that he will allow Pim Balkestein to extend his loan spell at Brentford.

Midfielder Norris is on his way back from a knee ligament injury and could be back in action as soon as the Christmas period, while Argentinian Luciano Civelli is unlikely to return until the end of January at best.

Will be good to get Civelli and Norris back. I would like to see a decent striker or two added in January. If it's loans then so be it!

Colin Healy - most pointless signing ever! He already could be playing week-in, week-out if we'd had just left him alone to go to Hartlepool; but instead we've wasted £100k+ and wages each week on someone who will just play reserve team football and probably leave on a free transfer.

I am hopeful that draws will soon turn into wins, positive signs in our recent displays that we are starting to take control, and become tough to beat. The softness at the back that we had at the start of the season seems to be leaving us!! Thank the lord for that!

In all honesty our strikers have been sh***, and pablo (The so called talisman) missed an amazing chance at the weekend!!!

Can I ask why do people keep thinking Pablo is such a legend, has he ever really been a great goal scorer, the 20+ a season man we have never had? I like Pabs, but I dont believe he has ever, or will ever cut the mustard when it comes to bagging. I dont see goals in any of our strikers to be honest, so maybe Jan will something will happen! fingers crossed

I dont think Rhodes would have been as prolific in this league, i really dont. We have come up against some rock hard defences this season, he would have been out of his depth (IMO).

Peterboro and Blackpool are teams we must beat this week - 6 points, no time for dropping now!

£100K thought we paid €50K for him. It was a gamble that didn't pay off.

no harm in having players such as healy and trotter, they dont set the world alight by any means, but they are solid fill-ins in case we get a glut of injuries. let them go out on loan to get games under their belt, will be good. norris and civelli will be like new signings anyway, i think we are one quality striker away from a very good side, so one good loan signing could be all we need!!

Yes el nino but that season he made some sort of effort away from home, we all luv him but usualy he only puts in the required effort in home games and not always all of them!!

James Beattie please!!

slowerball added 19:00 - Dec 7
He can't surely want Lisbie to return and play? It has to be - as rumoured - be because he's going to be sold to A N Other, unless Colchester have got the cash to buy him.

Beattie is a good shout given his recent fallout, he'd do okay, but the thought of having him here doesn't fill me with excitement...

We can't (please) carry on peppering opposition goals and not scoring? It MUST change. However, clean sheets and creating chances is a good start. Let's keep doing that and hoping we start putting the ball in the net.

Beattie would be good, doubt he would come to us though.

Wages for one thing and he's plying his trade in the Prem. Why step down? It is a shame that we are not buying at least one player in the window? A chance to strengthen and a measure of the manager's influence (or not maybe...).

I'm sure we could get Chris Boyd for peanuts... Ranger are in deep sh*t money wise and would accept any amount of cash just to get some funds in and get the boy off the wage bill.

Murphy, Norris & Civelli when added to the squad does strengthen things considerably, but I'd still like to see a striker.

Martin & Priskin.... can't think of many more worse buys in my opinion. They make Drissa Diallo look good?

Altogether now, Big Fat Joe's......

Correction - Kris Boyd.... actually, we could do worse that sign George Boyd?

I get the impression keane is downplaying the need for a striker.
If this is the case then we hopefully won't pay over the odds if people don't sense desperation. The man is not an idiot and i'm sure he realises as much as we all do how desperate we are for a player who can score for fun.
Dunno about the rest of you but i still haven't written off priskin yet...

Would like to see Pablo played in the hole behind front two like Eric Gates before I write him off completely;but RK is right that he will have to ship out players as he says squad can be too big, which I think it would be if more came in without departures

I think we've all heard this before about potential loan signings. I'll believe it when I see it - I have NO confidence in you Mr keane.

Lightningboy added 20:18 - Dec 7
Have any of our strikers been given a real run of games this season?..Strikers thrive on confidence but I doubt they've got much of that what with being rotated from one week to the next..Keano,you need to decide on your best 2 and stick with them for a couple of months - let them gel.

Counago & Stead for me.

uefa81 you have no confindence in keane? Really? Cause its not like you ever comment about it.

el_nino - where did you get 21 Pablo goals 02/03 from? Include friendlies and training games did you?

I agree with Thetruth.

All these saying that Pablo doesn't score. True, but then I seem to recall the current England manager has been quite successful over the years so seems to be quite a good manager and he keeps playing Heskey for England because he adds more to the team than just goals.

Pablo is the same and I can't believe people can't see that. He can score goals - and has scored more than 10 on several occasions, which is not bad for the type of striker he is, but his link up play (with a striker actually on the same wavelength) is invaluable.

Yes, his miss was criminal, but it shouldn't dictate the rest of his season.

I also don't get this stuff about him not trying. Maybe true in the past to an extent but certainly not true this season (at home admittedly).

we were supposed to get loads of loan signing in Nov and they never really happened (except Stern John). So i till will beleive it when i see it

It is now December and Keane STILL doesn't know what team to play and is talking about shipping players in and out . The trouble is he does not allow players to feel settled and hence they are not always performimg to their potential . Any decent manager has his frist team in mind and his group of subs but Keane just threatens to sell , drop players and bring new ones in etc . He took until recently to allow Garvan to have a game . The man is a disruptive, agressive and demoralising influence on what is a fantastic club !!

would be interesting to see pablo in the eric gates role, it could work with a high energy midfield three with Norris and leadbitter as the runners and garvan with the creativity, if we continue with a midfield 4 we still have the john walters problem, he is not so effective on the left or up front but if you play him on the right then edwards has to be dropped. i like peters also i think he is good in attack and tenacious and strong in the tackle when coming back an area i think edwards is lacking, when civelli returns it will be more of a conundrum, who in their right mind would be a manager
