Keane: We Could Have Scored Seven Saturday, 12th Dec 2009 19:22
Boss Roy Keane felt the Blues could have scored six or seven goals against Blackpool rather than just three. The Town manager was pleased that Town have moved out of the bottom three but says it’s not something to celebrate.
Keane said: "We're out of the bottom three and it's a relief when you've been there since the start of the season. But it's not something we're proud of. Don't worry, we won't be celebrating.
"We could have won by six or 7-1, given the chances we created, especially in the second half.
"They were unbelievable, thank God they didn't cost us otherwise I'd be saying the same things I've been saying for the last few weeks.
"It would have been a nice boost for the players and sent a message out to everyone that we're not such a bad team. But let's not get too greedy or selfish. We'll take the three goals and move on."
The Blues boss says his team now need to extend their 10-game unbeaten run but must win more of their games: "It's nice but it's victories we need to move up the table.
"We've dropped some silly points but we're looking a lot more solid and we're getting there.
"Steady's goal coming so early was obviously a boost and that's what we've needed over the last few weeks.
"It wasn't really a chance, more an opportunist effort and we had some good chances to have tied the game up well before the end.
"Blackpool probably had more of the possession but Jack's goal summed up our performance, a quick break, good movement but he still had a lot to do when he went through and he took it well.”
Grant Leadbitter and Jon Walters picked up their fifth bookings of of the season and are out of next week's trip to Scunthorpe. Keane says they will be missed but that it gives other people a chance to stake their claim: "They are both important players for us but I'm not too worried about it, that's what you have a squad for and we'll get on with it.
"We have players who have been unlucky to miss out and it will give them an opportunity to come in and show what they can do."
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway admitted his side were very much second best: "We got what we deserved and I got what I deserved - nothing.
"I probably tinkered with the team a bit too much and we didn't have our chess pieces in the right places.
"Full credit to Ipswich. They capitalised on that, scoring a fantastic goal after a minute and then giving us an absolute rabbit punch just before half-time.
"But I didn't recognise it as the kind of performance we've been giving, so I'm a bit disappointed.
"You have to give Roy credit, his team credit and the fans credit. Things haven't been going as well as they would want here but the spirit they showed spoke volumes for the manager and the club."

KEANO! You can just feel we're building something special here now. Couple of signings, and who knows. Tight league, and we're outplaying everyone at the moment.. it's been a real hard self assessment, but the club is recalibrated and building up, from the fans, to the players, to the management. well what a game for the first time this season the walk and drive home was great, peterbough was a good first half display buy the team but lacked cutting edge today keano got the steel out and sharpened it up stead gave a good performance just hope he can keep it up. few more wins under our belt and we can move forward and press up the table. i still keep saying we will get punished if the wingers keep leaving there fellow wingers out on there own to many times today peters was way to far in field with about 20 yards between himself and his counterpart, better teams will expoit this space buy good passing so just need to tighten up in this area i feel. but they was plenty of killer passes which tor there defence to bits. so come on you blues lest kick ass

"Definitely not something to celebrate" - Mr Keane, I think they are the first words you have spoken that I actualy agree with. Think I'll give my Boys of 81 a spin in the DVD player and watch Town when we had a gentleman manager and great players like Mr Mills, Mr Wark, Mr Osman, Mr Gates, Mr Butcher, etc. Oh yeah - nice to see we won today, makes a change (shame it won't last).

SHame it won't last? How about you actually get yourself down to Portman Road before you just sit in your armchair with a chocolate digestive and slating our manager... I have been in the anti-Keane camp for a while. Not because of any personal agenda, but because he has wasted resources, managed to squad poorly, and used, in my opinion, ropey tactics... HOWEVER, today we were absolutely superb, and Roy deserves a great deal of praise for the way we structured our team today. Peters was a constant thorn in Blackpool's side, Colback did a tremendous job, the back 4 were excellent as they have been lately, and Steady was absolutely superb. So all in all, before you sit there and write some more mindless drivel how about you give us a watch and actually come up with some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism of why you want Keane out, or why we should change things at the club. IF you had actually seen today's performance you would not have had room to criticise...

UEFA 81 - unbelievable comment, like yourself i was lucky enough to be bought up on that great team and also enjoyed those many memorable european nights it WAS a great team, but it was also nearly 30 years ago, at a time when Town were punching way above their weight. Those days gave us a history that we should all be proud of but the chances of any team emulating such triumphs solely from a youth policy are long gone. This is a time to look forward, the club is being rebuilt from the boardroom to the pitch to suit modern day football requirements with the foundations to provide long term stability rather than just falling into the trap of so much outside investment in football today of gaining promotion at all costs, becoming one season wonders and falling and fading back into oblivion. Keep the good work up everyone. An obvious improvement in the last few weeks, a couple of additions to the squad, how about Norris and Civelli?

Easy Peasy. A comfortable win, three goals, out of the relegation zone and an £80 win for me on the correct scoreline. That'll do nicely. Scunny next. 2-1 win?

As a Soldier I don't get to go to many games, but I am able to follow MY team via the web through the ups and downs most of the season. I have been following this Forum for a long time and have not commented B4, however with UEFA81 and his mindless comments, I really feel the need to comment on what a complete TW*T you are! Why on earth do you post? Do you support ITFC? We can all be negative, but you take the p*ss, go and support someone else like Taliban so I can shoot you! RANT OVER! COYB!!!!

UEFA, get lost! What is wrong with you? Why so much negitivety? We're 28 years on from 1981 move on please. Yes things didn't go too well at the start and I for one believe that a few of the draws we've had in our 10 game unbeaten run should have been converted to wins, but believe in the players, a 3-1 victory will do a massive amount for confidence and we can push on from here. By the way, gonna have a brag about this one but under a previous article on here (Keane considering changes.......) I posted a comment last night predicting 3-1 Town! Gonna get more predictions going from now, maybe it's been my fault all season...lol COYB!!!

Excellent result today, hopefully now we've bagged a few in a game the goals will start flowing! We've been pretty solid at the back a while and the team seems to be coming together nicely. Hope by the time I next see the team in the Blackpool cup game we're still unbeaten! I think a lot of the negative posters on here at the moment should just be ignored. I'm all for hearing someone with the opposite opinion to mine as long as it's a well thought out argument but I think certain people here seem to get off on the "celebrity" status they think they attain on here, referring to these people just feeds their fragile egos

UEFA 81 all I can say is "Pull my finger"! I thought we were superb today. Stead worked hard, scored a great goal, and was on fire today. Feed the lad a decent ball and he can easily be our fabled 20 goal a season striker. Tall blonde strikers from Huddersfield apart, I thought all the lads were great today. COYB!!
