Scunthorpe Match Postponed
Scunthorpe Match Postponed
Saturday, 19th Dec 2009 09:07

Town's game at Scunthorpe has been postponed after an early morning pitch inspection. Referee Andy Haines stayed overnight in North Lincolnshire and declared the surface unplayable after giving it the once over along with managers Roy Keane and Nigel Adkins at 8.30am.

Temperatures in Scunthorpe dipped to minus six overnight and were still at the same levels this morning with some areas of the pitch frozen.

The covers which have been on the pitch since Wednesday were only expected to be able to withstand temperatures down to minus four. Earlier in the week, Scunthorpe said that below that they anticipated some areas of the surface being frozen and the game being in doubt.

The postponement means that Jon Walters and Grant Leadbitter will now be suspended for the trip to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day (KO 1pm). Striker Stern John is also unavailable for the game against his parent club with his spell with the Blues ending on December 29th.

I think that if a championship side has to P a match the other side should get 2 points!

Interestingly enough, as you mentioned Arthur_strong, the Grimsby game went ahead... I went up to stay in Grimsby with my Dad at a friends, ahead of todays game at Scunny.

Sat in the main 'findus' Stand and although the pitch was visibly white, and hard, it still went ahead... It was THE coldest game i've ever been to, but they played...! Good game too, so I was a little surprised to see that Scunthorpe couldn't manage the game today... A 6 hour journey there yesterday, and another 5 hours back today... Still - saw Proudlock and Colgan play last night and it was a decent game....

We needed today's game because we would have won. We will miss the two boys for the palace game but pabs and colback will play and do well. Pabs brace on boxing day? HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL TOWN FANS.

It would be interesting to know whether, if we had been the home team, the match could have gone ahead at Portman Road.

If not would you all be keen to see the other team get 2 points then?
