Boothroyd: We Can't Afford Lisbie Fee Wednesday, 30th Dec 2009 10:32
Colchester manager Aidy Boothroyd says his club can't afford the fee the Blues are asking for striker Kevin Lisbie or match his Championship wages. Town have recalled the frontman at the halfway stage of his season-long loan with the U’s.
Boothroyd says he would love Lisbie to stay but says that may not be possible: “I like him a lot and I would really like to keep him but he is Ipswich Town’s player.
“It’s up to Roy Keane and Ipswich what they do with him. But we’ll monitor the situation.
“I don’t think we can afford the fee they are asking or the wages Championship clubs can afford. But we may be able to come up with something at the end of January.”
That suggests Colchester may look for a further loan deal if the ex-Charlton man hasn't already been sold to another club.
Blues boss Keane has said Town received interest in Lisbie from a number of other interested parties during the striker’s spell at Colchester, which yielded 10 goals.
Lisbie himself wants to stay at Colchester and admits that his refusal to move closer to Town is part of the reason for his lack of involvement since Keane took over as manager: “The gaffer has not lost any hope in signing me and hopefully they can sort something out.
“I’ve not had a call from Ipswich yet and I’ll wait for them to contact me. I can’t see myself playing there. I’ll not move down and that was the reason why I wasn’t playing before.”
Lisbie is contracted to the Blues until June 2011, having signed from Colchester for £750,000 in the summer of 2008.

Blimey - how will he get to Leeds - by teleporter?
imalwayswrong added 11:55 - Dec 30
most probably on a money carpet, as leeds are most probably the only club in Div 1 who could afford his stupid wages.

We could get make him commute every day for training, not give him any competitive games, refuse to loan him out... and basically RUIN him! If we goesn't want to play for us, let us finish his career!

Lisbie have been a huge disapointment for Ipswich. And now he's also proving to be illoyal to his employer, thus making him harder to sell, if not impossible. I think it's politics. With this latest statement he's hoping to complete the season long loan with Colchester, to make his money from Ipswich, and then leave on a free transfer to Colchester come summer. He needs a fantastic change of attitude if he wants to play for any other club than the Col .

Seems pretty clear to me that Lisbie is the problem - rather than the location of anything or anybody.

Lisbie doesn't want to leave London, we've had Stern John on loan... Could see RK trying to sort out some kind of swap deal with Palace - as they're flat broke (and don't they still owe us some money?) could see them accepting any terms for s deal to go through.

If Lisbie is so Keane to stay at Colchester, why doesn't he take a wage cut! Duh! He has priorities all wrong!

we need to get him back and sold as we are still paying a good part of his wages

He's not going to fit in with RK's regime at ITFC. He is however a Championship level player, but if he's not prepared to move, the only other London clubs are QPR & Palace. It's possible QPR might want him but unlikely, and Palace are broke. As one of the "big" clubs in League One, I reckon a return to Charlton is on the cards

Surely if Lisbie wants to stay at Colchester so badly he's happy to take a paycut to a League 1 wage? Oh wait...

xrayspecs I agree with every word. Its limited who we can ship him out to , like palace charlton colwho qpr , and then im struggling because he wants to stay in london. Maybe naaaawich will bid for him, i think he played for them on loan ages back. Anyone who will pay his wages and that will pay at least half the fee would be great but it could be colwho on loan and we just write off the fee they pocketed and pay half his wages = crap deal !

Be interesting to see what happens on Lisbie's first day back at training. I reckon he'll train with the reserves meself. Or we'll sell him immediately to Peterborough or MK Dons...don't want him back and wouldn't even if he was pooing goals in his sleep.
runaround added 14:46 - Dec 30
Lisbie obviously does not want to play here and would therefore not give 100% for us. Therefore i dont want him back however we should not just give him away and if Col Who cannot afford him then he will just rot until we find someone desperate enough to pay his inflated wage demands and a fee to us
paulbahrain added 16:04 - Dec 30
We don't want him back. He is not up to Championship standards.

'Well, there are about 20,00 people who wouldn't want you to anyway mate.' totally agree, doesn't want to play for us, disrespected the club and the manager so i dont really want him to be honest.
Blueknight85 added 19:05 - Dec 30
an extra half hor drive makes all the difference before training and a match keane knows himself and there is plenty of evidance out there that such players suffer more injuries. not to mention the fact they have no controll over being held up in trqaffic the further away they are coming from. keane doesnt demand players move themsleves and family to ipswich just that they have somewhere close to stay. and many other clubs do the same if he was a proffesional who wanted to go places he would have no problems with this
WickedBlue added 20:20 - Dec 30
If he sits on his ar$e and refuses to play for us and just wants to collect his wages then he can be sued for breach of contract not too hard to prove if he isn't giving his all for for us. Plus the chances of anyone else signiong him drops to zero. His best bet is to sign for anyone willing to buy him now.
