Town Draw Southampton Away
Town Draw Southampton Away
Sunday, 3rd Jan 2010 18:13

Town have drawn League One Southampton away in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The sides last met in the FA Cup at the third round stage in 1999/00 at Portman Road when the then-Premiership Saints won 1-0, Dean Richards scoring the game's only goal.

Southampton also won both the other two FA Cup meetings between the teams, a 7-1 thrashing at the Dell in 1960/61 and a 3-2 victory in 1990/91, also in Hampshire and at the third round stage.

Last season, in Southampton's relegation season, the sides drew 2-2 at St Mary's and the Saints won 3-0 at Portman Road.

The game will see Saints Kelvin Davis and Dan Harding face their old club, while keeper Bartosz Bialkowski was on loan at Portman Road last season without playing a game.

Current Blue Richard Wright spent time on loan at St Mary's while a West Ham player but won't face his old club has he's out with a knee injury until March. Loan striker Stern John was with the Saints between his spells with Roy Keane's Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

In 2005 Keane fell out with Southampton fans while warming up when a Manchester United sub after responding to taunts by mocking their relegation.

Fourth round matches will be played on the weekend of Saturday 23rd January.

It's certainly not dull. What a great draw! Certain candidates to progress through again. We could go along way this year. Arsenal are not guarenteed to win at Stoke and if we avoid big guns in next round, who knows??

people on here seem to think we have won this already.

Make no mistake saints are a good side, this will be a tough match for us.

How under-whelming! could prove tricky though, really wanted us to get a prem team.

We'll have to keep Rickie Lambert quiet, or else buy him before the tie ;-)

Saints are going well but we are on the up. This has the makings of a cracking game. I shall be there, particularly as my nephew lives in Soton - he'll be there in his ITFC shirt!

Quite happy with this one. Nice Stadium, last time I went a good atmosphere from our fans.

Fingers crossed I can get the time off work and go to this one!

tough game they will give us but its a game we should win even a draw would bring them here and then i think we would win that odds on

this game is by no means a buy to the next round. Will be a tricky test for us. Would have prefered them at p/r

will be a very hard game - undoubtably RK will install a "respect but no fear" attitude toward Saints. Would be happy with a draw and to win the return at FPR tbh !

Not the most exciting of draws but it is definately a winnable match if we can perform to our best
