Priskin No to Charlton Loan
Priskin No to Charlton Loan
Friday, 15th Jan 2010 07:17

Striker Tamás Priskin has turned down the chance to join League One Charlton on loan. The Hungarian has struggled to win a first team place since joining the Blues from Watford for £1.7 million in the summer, scoring only two goals in nine starts and seven sub appearances.

Last week the 23-year-old said that he was determined to stay with Town and prove himself and knew nothing of reports that he was set to be sold to fund the Blues' January signings: "I’ve only seen this in the press and if it’s up to me, I'm not going anywhere.”

Boss Roy Keane has already sent fellow fringe players Colin Healy, Liam Trotter and Tommy Smith out on loan to Falkirk, Millwall and Brentford respectively in order for them to play competitive games and the club are willing to allow other non-regulars to make similar moves.

Priskin, who has been capped 24 times by Hungary, scoring seven goals, is contracted to the Blues until June 2012.

Meanwhile, former Blue Kieron Dyer is again being linked with a return to Town, but settling the midfielder's contract at Upton Park is said to be a stumbling block to any proposed move.

Elsewhere, contrary to the claim of a return to Town, which first surfaced in November but was dismissed by both clubs, other reports claim the 31-year-old is considering retiring due to bhis ongoing injury problems.

He cost 1.7m but has only been given 7 games!! Surely he deserves more of a chance than that

Dyer coming back would be a big mistake. He needs to take a leaf out of Dean Ashton's book and retire for the sake of his long term health.

Just been reading your posts and they made me smile. Most of you with frustrations sound exactly like our own fans (WFC). Even up to the point he was sold many were split. Some though it was a good price for a player who only had a decent 6 month is the whole time he was at the club, others thought we should have kept him and he has bags of ability and potential and was described as the best finisher outside of the premiership.

I haven't see you guys play this year so can comment on how you are playing him but he is not a target man if that is what you are expecting and we actually the got the best out of him when he played with a stronger target man (Rasiak). Neither is he a out and out goal scorer. He is a bit of a luxury player akin to Berbatov in that he can change a game while a sublime skill, unparalleled at this level. Some call him lazy but actually it is just his style he expects the ball to feet and will not chase it in the channels like an English style forward. Talented footballers can appear lazy because of this and I understand why you are frustrated.

If Keane had done his homework he would have seen this so by the sound of your comments I guess this was lazy scouting by the club! He will often draw defenders out into wide / deep positions and play wonderful flick or through ball to forward running midfielders and or his strike partner. You will need to build your play around him to do this and will need skilful / intelligent footballers. We were fortunate last year as we had Tommy Smith and Don Cowie making those midfield runs and his partner up front was Gregor Rasiak who being Eastern European himself was used to this style of play. Some of the interchange between Rasiak and Prisken were a joy to watch and worth the entrance fee alone.

Priskin deservces a chance, but honestly believe he would have more chance getting back in the squad by going out on loan and bagging a few then coming back rather than staying here in the reserves.

Dyer would be an interesting decision, wouldn't say no, but best interest for the club would be a pay per play contract, otherwise it is wasted money. He stills has "it" when he is fit.

I would put Priskin in on Saturday with Pablo on the bench. And if that happens, let's get well behind him.

When we bought him, I posted my best mates comments on the guy (TP). My friend is aWatford Season Ticket holder and said TP was lazy, useless, won't go in for a 50/50, disinterested - maybe the guy has an attitude problem that needs sorting?

A typical Eastern European striker : one assumes that they CAN score goals somewhere in the world, but it is never in the English Leagues. No doubt I will now be accused of racism, as I was back in 2001 when I dared to suggest that Finidi George was rubbish!

cookiemk6.
That's because he always goes to see his mum.

He is still a quality player but his body is knackered. Sign him and up goes our medical/physio bill.

Not sure about this.

On one hand, loaning Priskin out and hoping he can get a few goals and build up his confidence sounds like a sensible move. It would also help Keane work out whether we have been sold a pup or not. If he can't turn it on at Charlton, we might as well cut our losses.

On the other hand, if the problem is all about him settling into the team and the area, what good would it do to send him to south London?

Loan would do Priskin good, we don't need both him and Pablo on the books. I think he models himself on languid fellow countryman Berbatov, unfortunately he ain't as talented. Should try to emulate John Walters instead.

Priskin is a lazy player with the wrong attitude . His work rate is the poorest I have ever seen for one of our players.
He had a choice ; Go and get some games , score some goals , put some effort in and win a first team place back at PR , or just sit back ,do nothing and collect wages at the end of the week ,happy that the money is coming from hard working supporter's pockets.....

Would have liked to see him at Charlton, scoring just enough goals to keep Norwich out of the top two.

Why should TP go to a League 1 club? Ok, he didn't cover himself in glory earlier in the season but virtually the whole team were crap. Why single him out? I remember all the abuse hurled at McCauley and Delaney. Now they're the bedrock of the team! Give TP more of a chance and if he doesn't take it then we should reasses.

I am surprised RK was going to allow Prisking out on loan.At £1.7M surely he is worth a place on our bench? Okay, he hasn't excelled but hasn't had much of a chance. Would love to see what he could do if Garvan played him through . . .

Agree with many of the comments here. I think it is good that he does not want to go out on loan and hope that this indicates he is willing to fight for a place in the team. If, as many seem to think, Priskin is not an all action, pulling his guts out, Roy Keane kind of player (and never was by all accounts) then that would indicate mistakes were made when the club checked him out before making the (substantial) offer. Surely RK knew what he was buying and it certainly was never going to be a workhorse to lead the front line. Agree also that Priskin has not been given the chance to play in a team that has got a few decent results behind them. He must be given a go in order to build up his confidence. Hope he is at least on the bench tomorrow and would like to see him come on and get the winner. Surely all ITFC want this guy to succeed!

Surely we'd be better off telling him to get stuck in in Stead's abscence and give the boos a headache?! I'm among those that haven't been particularly impressed but you can't spend big money on a player and leave him playing Xbox on a match day...
