Healy Deal Complete
Healy Deal Complete
Monday, 1st Feb 2010 16:58

Town have confirmed that Sunderland striker David Healy has completed his loan move to the Blues until the end of the season. Healy, consistently linked with Town during Jim Magilton's time as manager and again throughout the summer, joins his Black Cats team-mate Daryl Murphy at Portman Road.

Killyleagh-born Healy started his career with Manchester United, during which time he spent spells on loan at Port Vale and Preston, eventually signing on full-time with the Lilywhites in 2001.

After a loan spell at Norwich, Healy moved on to Leeds and then Fulham, before then-Sunderland boss Roy Keane paid the Cottagers £1.2 million for his services in August 2008.

The frontman, who has never replicated his Northern Ireland form of 35 goals in 78 games at club level, has made only three starts - none in the league - and 18 sub appearances since joining the Black Cats, scoring just three goals.

The 30-year-old, awarded an MBE for services to football in 2008, is contracted to Sunderland until the summer of 2011.

ipswich4life, i have been told by a Sunderland supporter, Murphy was ready to come in the summer but it was subject to one of our players leaving first (possibly Pabs) which didnt happen so it was us turning him down not the other way around. Now i cannot verify this is 100% true, however it does add another more positive dimension........

well I championed signing Healy back in the summer and finally he is here.......good times

however i do worry that what goal scorers need more than anything is a run in the side and confidence - and already the idiots are circling like vultures to ridicule another rubbish signing.

Dear God, we are the clubs supporters (except for the random budgie - you know who you are......) so lets SUPPORT THE DAMN TEAM.

oh, just one more thing, here's a thought to the pathetic Keane haters who would gladly see the team fail if it meant he got the sack (UEFA81 at al)

if we now go on an unprecedented run finishing on a high and get to the play offs this season with all the positive media attention that will bring, followed by astute summer signings and a spectacular runaway promotion season in 2010/11 then Keane will be off to Man U at end of contract. Either way we lose Roy (boo) but at least we will have had some fun each week while it happens.

just a thought............

the danger is priskin finds some form and doesn't want to come back! he owes us big time!

BUT...

whilst i am a realist and know that murphy and healy are not the big(ish) name signings we dream of t make us contenders, there acquisition is a very positive move for town. We have been screaming out for a bit of extra quality to rejuvinate our strike force, this season has been a dogfight and will remain that way until we achieve enough points to stave off the fear and real possibility of relegation.
what we have now, is a re-shaped attack giving us options to meet the tactical demands of each game. it takes the pressure of pablo and stead to hit the kind of form that we know is just beyond them. healy and murphy can have a big impact on this team and you never know, at the start of next season, one of these two, if not both could be the player we see as integral to our team.

the important thing is to get them into the team, they are experienced pros who have worked with keane (and some of the current playing staff before). if we can incorporate them into a settled side and are able to feild our strongest eleven from now until the end of the season, we might just, just be able to finsish this season on some sort of a high.

i understand why some fans are annoyed when it is suggested they are moaners when it is more accurate to say they are just deeply worried about their teams position but, this is the time to get behind your team, the players and the manager. you have to believe we can do it.

in football, nothing is given, everything has to be earned.
(unless your man city)

COME ON YOU SUPER BLUES!

Lets wait and see. I just hope they do not take as long as Priskin and some of the other to settle in.

BrandonBlues much of Priskens settling in is possibly due to the type of football he is used to with his Hungrian background, also the fact he is a lad at 22. These two are seasoned pro's so really have little excuse for long bedding in periods - ok maybe a game or two. Also they will be playing with people they know and a manager they have played for before. Grief i havent commented in ages now you cant shut me up :-)

Ha @Injuredanimal. Truth.

To the naysayers of Healy - watch a montage of his goals for NI. He has PROVEN he has ALL the ingredients, with class and aplomb - just needs to be played and managed well. Its barely a gamble - I'm quietly confident; time will tell.

I would imagine Roy looked at our squad, and couldn't believe we had players in playing first team Championship football while the likes of Healy and Murphy weren't getting a game each week but are superior.

Grant leadbitter is a superstar in our team. Rosenior class. Delaney came good with a vengeance. Priskin is being handled brilliantly, though I've not seen the potential in him yet.

Lee Martin - the type of player that will always struggle in the championship. Would probably be good in prem or abroad in latin leagues.

Bruce - not good enough - out.
Trotter - not good enough - out.
Rhodes - not good enough - out.
Hanes - not good enough - out. (although his pace is missed, he had a bad attitude and was only ever a pace man. admittedly that gives him a professional career, but he's no bellamy.)

Need i go on? Trust in Roy.

Or, perhaps we should trust the judgement of the doughnuts on here that think they know something about football but get negative when we sign players they don't know anything about.
I mean, I trust their judgement comes from being consistent Sunderland reserve team observers? Jokers. Pretty shameful, but i don't expect they've the capacity to understand the criticism. Bless ;-)

Sad i know, but everyones loves a stat. Davi Healy's playing career reads at 409 games, 125 goals. I'll take that as an average.

Good signings. One of the advantages of Keane signing a number ex sunderland players is that they will know each others game and personalities,so less settling in time. The other 3 ex sunderland players settled in immediately. Edwards started well but simply has run into a poor form. For Northern Ireland Healy will also have played with McAuley and Murphy with the southern Irish players. Murphy will do well as a wide player (preferably) or target man.
Even the best strikers can miss, and Healy might not have Chopra's pace but he is a player who will convert a higher ratio of chances than the other strikers at the club. Both honest players who should have the hunger to do well. Still lacking a bit of pace in the team, but players who have pace and ability will be in demand in the Premier league.

It's like deja vu on here...the usual suspects are moaning without giving the new boys a chance whilst the other half see the positives in what will hopefully prove to be good signings. Well, whether your glass is half empty or half full, for the sake of the team, get behind all the players in a town shirt. God, you're even beginning to make me feel miserable and my glass is most definitely half full!

Fairly happy with these signings, hopefully they'll give us the boost we need to get clear of relegation.

But PutYourBootsOnKeano: I know you love Keane and will defend every decision he ever makes but in your summary of signings you are incredibly generous to our failures (Martin would be good in Prem, brilliant!) but you say "Rhodes - not good enough!"

Based on what exactly? The guy is scoring for fun. OK, we don't know how he'd do in the Championship, but seeing as he never started a game I'd like to know what you're basing your statement on.

It's this kind of blinkered statement that has so divided the boards this year. People are either pro or anti. Personally I like to take each decision and performance on its merits. But then what do I know?

no1 scores 20 goals a season every year in his career.
and martin isnt a striker.
in the summer strikers had to go we had to many and we still have. if counago or any1 else had gone ud still be complaining.

"Rhodes not good enough". Yeah, cos he doesn't know where the goal is does he.
"Martin, would be good in the Prem". WTF?

Funniest thing i have read in ages. I feel like Keane could come around and do a bab on your kid's head and you'd still stick by him. Brilliant.

Good luck David, welcome aboard. I have a feeling we will see a debut goal from him saturday. OK he may not be the best striker in the world but he has experience and has scored goals at top level. Hopefully this will give everyone at the club the lift it needs to pull clear of the bottom 3 in readiness for a real shot at promotion next season. C.O.Y.B!

i think you should go read martins history to be honest rather than judge him so harshly on half a season in a whole team playing kak

My premise is having watched him play, naa. He hadn't got the movement. In his defence he's young - but i've no regret at his leaving; because of the direction the squad needed to go in. Watching us under Jim I felt that our squad was utterly impotent.

At the moment, there are about 7 players in our entire squad that i'd keep if I was starting again.

As for sticking by Keane - Various reasons:
He came in and made a series of decisions that I was desperate for Jim to make.
His management of the players has been careful and astute.
He is embarking on a major mission to change our club, and half our fans peak and trough on a weekly basis when our challenge will take years. I'm consistent.

I stick by my Martin comments, and time will tell there. If you understand the dynamics of the different leagues you may appreciate the observation. The English league system doesn't increment simply on any basis. The entire style of play is different in each league. Martin is not styled to championship football; doesn't mean he's a bad player. Ironically,it can mean you're a better footballer, on a different measuring stick.

I'm not blinkered, dear boy. But I'm damn confident in my observations. I'm simply not wrong enough to doubt my judgement. If i'm wrong, i'm perfectly humble. It just doesn't happen very much. ;-)

Not going overboard with these signings. What has Healy ever done except score a few goals for Northern Ireland. Murphy not a prolific goalscorer and will no doubt play wide left anyway. Just hope it freshens us up but for Keane to say Priskin is going nowehere and then the opposite happens is beyond me. Roy - I've stayed with you but your statements mislead the most patient of town fans. Its going to be touchg and go from now to the end of the season - lets hope we can survive. A pretty sorry state of affairs for the money we have spent and Healy well hope he proves me wrong but what has he ever done at Club level - nothing.

to be fair stow.. keanes comment was more of hes not going anywhere permently hes a great tallent etc.. but obviously we expect more from him they were talking about him being sold for a fee to finance a fee for another striker and he may not have known he could have healy and murphy at that point he may not have even spoke to qpr at that point some agent could have just said to a reporter they are going to enquire.

Was getting a bit concerned by 3 o'clock but now very happy with a couple of great loans. perhaps a little bit concered with the lack of defensive cover but a very stong XI that can finish the job after turning the corner 16 games ago. Priskin has not left for good, he has got out own loan to get games and confidence, he will return a much better player.

Murphy
Rosenior Mac Delaney Wright
Walters Norris Ledbeatter Murphy
Stead Healy

Bench: Lee Barrett, Balkenstein, Peters, Garvan, Edwards, Pablo, Wickham
