Stead Waiting Until the Summer
Stead Waiting Until the Summer
Wednesday, 3rd Mar 2010 11:56

On-loan striker Jon Stead says he will make a decision on his future in the summer. The 26-year-old is at Coventry City until the end of the season and scored his first goal for the Sky Blues in their 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Stead, who is contracted to the Blues until June 2011, says he won’t consider whether make his move to the Ricoh Arena permanent until the summer: "Things are up in the air until the end of the season.

"I don't want to make a decision until the end of the season because I think that's the right thing to do.

"But I want to forget about that decision for a couple of months and enjoy my football."

Meanwhile, Bedworth United centre-half Danny Miley is reported to have spent time on trial with Town recently. Miley, whose current side play in the Zamaretto Midlands League Division One, was previously with Aston Villa before joining the army and serving in Iraq.

The 22-year-old is now on trial at Burton Albion, having had a similar spell with Crewe in addition to his time with the Blues.

Waiting to see if Roy gets the flying elbow? Sensible...

Gotta be honest, he's likely to go isn't he?
Be odd to keep him after he's gone out on loan, and we'll probably get a decent fee for him (upwards of a mil?).

Th sum will be about £500K for our top striker. I just don't know... I would allow him to go only if we secure Hely and Murphy on permanent deals. But even if one of them not join us we should keep Stead or get another striker and get rid of Pablo instead...

Can't see the point of him staying. Never rated him.

Lets get some cash back, free-up the wages, and get someone decent in.

I know he has scored a few but be honest, he's very ordinary.

Still think he gets a rough deal wherever he's been..20 goals here in 18 months remember..he's paid to put the ball in the net and to be fair he's done that on a regular basis..so what if he can't hold the ball up/goes missing occasionally-even Torres goes missing in games.

Just hope Keane doesn't chop and change too much this summer (providing he keeps his job)- just need to get rid of the deadwood..Quinn,Priskin,Trotter.

Just keeping his options open and not burning his bridges. Very sensible as JPR said. There will be big changes in the summer I think. I understand the fee agreed with Coventry is around £500k, which isn't big money but JS is on pretty high wages and can be very hit and miss, so there are arguments both to stay and go. A lot will depend on whether RK is still in charge come the summer...

No, no, no: the headline should be that we have someone on trial from the Zamaretto Midlands League Division One. Much more exciting. Of course, had it been the Zamaretto Midlands League Premier Division, I would be beside myself, but still with him and the Joe Bloggs chap, it's to infinity and beyond alright.

keanes probably on high wages as well and he's delivered less than stead this year shouldn't we get rid of them both if we are serious about moving this club back up to where we belong

Good point benny, and i agree with lightningboy ,he has done what he was here for,he has scored goals, and i always thought when he played there was a chance of a goal, more than i can say about Priskin,[who is still doing sod all].In a season when the team have not performed, and manager has fallen well short of the mark,Stead is really not one of the major dissapointments.

Ok guys, bit off topic but since there was an international last night, thought i'd see if i could gauge what people think in terms of England and the world cup.

be great to get some feedback and see what fellow fans think, as for the first time in a long time, i genuinely excited about the prospect of watching England play!

i think the main point is that Lampard, Barry and Gerrard do not work well together in midfeild. If we are playing 4-4-2, which i think we should, then Gerrard can happily play on the left and still be effective. The thing that became clear last night is that Lampard, although great for chelsea, does not merit a starting place in the team.

I believ Carrick is the missing link, I think he would be our best option in the centre, paired with either Gerrard or Barry. The question is, which one? A Barry, Carrick central pairing would work well, in the same way Carrick and Fletcher do for United but if youve got Gerrard and assuming Lampard is resigned to the bench, then why not play him in his favoured position?

I feel Milner and Wright-Phillips can take over the wing positions in the starting eleven, with anyone of J.Cole (if fit), Lennon or Beckham playing understudy. I think this world cup, like the last, is still a bit too soon for the likes of Walcott — I'd put Ashley Young ahead of him at this point too.

However, if you play gerrard out wide then the temptaion to put Lampard back in rears its head. however, i feel this should be resisted, Carrick and Barry or Carrick and Gerrard in the centre is the way to go. with Lampard making up the 4th central midfeild option and, would there be a better player to bring off the bench in the whole tournament then Fat Frank?

In terms of the attack, Im happy to go with Heskey. Rooney is our most important player and playing someone alongside him to enable him to be at his best is more important then having someone who can score goals aswell. The midfeild is more then capable of scoring, as we saw last night and Rooney, in form, is truly unstoppable. I like defoe but feel he is too direct and would be best used as an impact player off the bench. Crouch also fits this role and perhaps would be best off the bench. The players realise now, that being in the starting XI isn't vital, unless you are a Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand or dear i say a Carrick?

I think the defence showed we are strong at the back but the difference between being at full strength, (johnson, terry ferdinand, cole) and with cover makes us less of a threat. At full strength, I put our defence as one of the best in the world, no doubt.

for me, this is how we should line up:
GK: GREEN
DEF: JOHNSON, TERRY, FERDINAND, A.COLE
MID: WRIGHT-PHILLIPS, CARRICK, GERRARD, MILNER
ATT: ROONEY, HESKEY

BENCH: CROUCH, DEFOE, BECKHAM, LAMPARD, BARRY.

perhaps im being harsh on Barry as he has hardly put a foot wrong, in this case, switch Barry for Milner and put gerrard out wide on the left. In any case, Milner can make an impact from the bench, as he proved last night.

having a bench as strong as your starting XI can be a real key at international level when looking for success. it's important not to try and force a group of star playes to operate as a superstar team. allow your most important players to play at their best, not every position has to have a superstar player, otherwise what do you have in reserve to make the difference should you need it?

C'MON ENGLAND!! and C'MON YOU BLUES!!!!!
