Keane: It's Like Groundhog Day
Keane: It's Like Groundhog Day
Saturday, 6th Mar 2010 19:01

Boss Roy Keane described Town’s failure to take their chances at Blackpool as being "like Groundhog Day". The Blues had opportunities galore to grab an equaliser at Bloomfield Road but left Lancashire having been defeated 1-0.

Keane said: "We had a number of chances in the game but it's getting like Groundhog Day.

"If you don't take your chances, you get nothing. If you don't hit the target, you don't get much.

"I was disappointed with both ends in the second half. We gave a bad goal away and to miss the chances we had was criminal."

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was pleased with his side on a pitch he described as being like an “allotment”.

He said: "In the first half we were a little bit sloppy in one or two situations where perhaps we made the wrong choice. Those chances can be vital on a pitch that doesn't help either team at the moment.

"Roy knows how to play against us and he's beaten us twice already this season, so I threw a bit of a curve ball at them by not picking Ben Burgess and going for a bit more movement.

"I call their two central defenders the twin towers as you have to keep the ball away from them by getting out wide."

You have to take some blame mr keane as your 1st half tactics didn't help today

From Tuesday we have 5 games in 15 days 4 of which are at home, a requirement of at least 10 points is required or we are going to be in the brown stuff up to our necks.Time to get behind the team and pray that after the Plymouth game we are within touching distance of the magic 50 points.

This doesn't just sum up our season, it sums up the last 2 or 3 seasons, we haven't had a goal poacher in the last few seasons. Nothing since bent and kuqi went, we've really got to pick our game up or it could be another season without a derby, i don't like to say that, i'm usually the most optimistic of all supporters.

Actually a poacher would be great but all we need is someone who can hit the target. Groundhog day for fans, we all know we need now what we have needed for the LAST 3 SEASONS!!!!!!

Is it my imagination or did all these chances we miss come about after we replaced that donlkey Murphy with Counago?

Now here's a thought, why don't we start with Counago?

Simply not good enough, that sums up the Town performance today. They lack real quality in far too many areas of the pitch.
B Murphy - cannot kick - real concern put the team under unnecessary pressure
Edwards - his positional play when defending is worrying - slightly better going forward
Walters - alot of energy but lacks quality with the key balls at the key times
Leadbitter - did not dominate gave too many balls away and lost too many one on one battles
Positives - Peters looked Towns biggest threat, why then did Keane move him to left back in the 2nd half.
I think we have been more than patient with Keane, however I do now think that it might be time for a change and see whether some body else can get more out of this bunch of players.

same old excuses, different week,i knew we'd lose today, get rid of this muppet evans and cut your already big loss before it becomes an even bigger one.
If this was any other manager hed be long gone by now, cant undertand why evans is being so patient, have we seriously got to confirm we are relegated 1st before we sack him?????
You might be happy living in Suffolk Keane, think yourself lucky you are still our manager, bring back burley,a man of which i have no doubt was sacked too soon and is ready to get town back near to where we should be,please.

It is possible for a team to be unlucky in a game, miss their chances, come up against an inspired goalkeeper...we can't blame them for that. However, when this happens match after match, particularly at Portman Road where the team has scored a pathetic 17 goals in 16 games, then we have to realise it is not luck. Either the players are not good enough (due to bad signings and sales) and/or they are not being managed properly (team selections, organisation, motivation). We finished 9th last year and have spent £8m, increasing the wage bill a lot too I suspect, so if the players are not good enough the manager has to take the blame for that.

I received my season ticket pack today and will definitely renew, but the 50% promotion cash back seems further away than ever. Clegg's letter mentions the two year plan to yet promoted, yet Keane said recently it could take five years. I am patient, but I don't see the strategy. We are not a team of youngsters, they are mostly players in their prime who came in for big money. Once the loanees go back, what is the quality of our squad really like?!

Well done to Jon Stead for scoring again.

I did notice today that two new managers with different teams both won today.(To put more pressure on us) LET us all hope that Warnock can kick some ass and get Priskin going ,So he can come back here and score some goals for us

I agree we haven't had a goal poacher for the last few seasons. In 2004/5 we scored 85, in 2005/6 we got 53, in 2006/7 64, in 2007/8 65 and in 2008/9 we scored 62.

This season so far we have scored 37 and if we carry on at that rate we will end with just 50 goals. :-(

Hopefully we will survive this season and ush on next. I have never known a season where opposition goalkeepers (and no world beaters at that) have played so darn well against only us! Look at Gerken today! If we can survive, hopefully our luck will change next season.

I've never been a roy keane fan,(he doesn't even deserve capital letters) but now i've had enough.
He is not Ipswich Town and look what he is doing to OUR club, what a nightmare.
Bring back Burley, or i would like to see Frank Yallop, done quite well managing.
Just get rid of keano, and fast.

The similarities with Leicester 2 years ago is worrying. A team with a rich owner, a new manager, high hopes, a decent defence but an inability to score goals. Sounds familiar?! We just dont seem to be able to pull clear of the bottom 3 and everytime we lose, the teams below us seem to win. 5 games in next 17 games, 4 at home, gives us a real chance to move up. Failure to do this will leaves us in the mire. Hate to say it but i just cannot see us winning games right now

Kirbs I would rather see: BREAKING NEWS: Kevin Phillips joins ITFC on loan and Neil Warnock has bid £10million for Priskin.

Unfortunatly neither of our breaking news' will occur, not tomorrow anyway

We need a pacy young hungry in-form striker...you won't get that from the Prem league unless you're lucky(Jay Simpson QPR)but we need to take a punt from somewhere else, whether that's the league one(Simone Jackson)or in the lower leagues abroad...pace is nearly everything in football today, Walcott is a crap 'footballer' at his level, but he has bags of pace and can make things happen!

Very disappointing, but almost inevitable really. Not sure about Tuesday, but following that there are 4 very win-able (and in some cases "must win") games that we need to get something out of. Our last few fixtures are very tough so we really need to be safe by then. These next couple of weeks will decide our fate...
