Keane: It's Like Groundhog Day
Keane: It's Like Groundhog Day
Saturday, 6th Mar 2010 19:01

Boss Roy Keane described Town’s failure to take their chances at Blackpool as being "like Groundhog Day". The Blues had opportunities galore to grab an equaliser at Bloomfield Road but left Lancashire having been defeated 1-0.

Keane said: "We had a number of chances in the game but it's getting like Groundhog Day.

"If you don't take your chances, you get nothing. If you don't hit the target, you don't get much.

"I was disappointed with both ends in the second half. We gave a bad goal away and to miss the chances we had was criminal."

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was pleased with his side on a pitch he described as being like an “allotment”.

He said: "In the first half we were a little bit sloppy in one or two situations where perhaps we made the wrong choice. Those chances can be vital on a pitch that doesn't help either team at the moment.

"Roy knows how to play against us and he's beaten us twice already this season, so I threw a bit of a curve ball at them by not picking Ben Burgess and going for a bit more movement.

"I call their two central defenders the twin towers as you have to keep the ball away from them by getting out wide."

Went to the game today and that to me was a relegation performance. Its alright Keane harping on about Groundhog Day, but from where I was watching the game (the celubrious open air seats @£24.50) the chances seemed to be only half chances at best. The corners/crosses were all too predictable and Blackpool's goalie caught them all easily.

Ipswich Town - slowly but surely we are getting worse and worse. Could we get much further from looking like a decent Championship side? Think of how much work is now actually required to make us in to realistic promotion chasers. I know we like to think we stand a chance next season but at this rate we most certainly do not. It depresses me to see our plight.

Re Stead - please remember - only SIX goals for us NOT SIXTEEN! Even Stead admitted he didn't score enough, so please get over it.p.s. Murphy has actually scored more than Stead if you compare their loan spells . . .

Keane does have to have a long hard look at himself this season, but why all this nonsense about bringing back Burley. We need to look forward not backwards, rarely does a returning manager enjoy repeat sucess. As for new managers, while it worked for Warnock and Hart today, ask Plymouth and Peterborough how their new managers are doing!

Stikalite, we need a young hungry in-form striker do we? Well, we have the solutuon . . . the up and coming Wickham! Just a shame he's useless. Where was the big 4 signature scramble by the way?

^^bluedevon- we have made no progress all season and have had a landslide since when magilton was here. hes had enough chances and bringin in a new manager is our only manager to guarentee safety as the players will react like they did to keane at the end of last season. when you say look at plymouth and peterboro, no manager could do anything with them teams as there teams are terrible. we had a better squad last year then we have now and we had a better manager last year then we have now!

Its seems most of the comments on here are from a small reactionary group of people over and over again. typing the same stuff.over and over again. the club arnt listening to you. Their not on the edge of their seat every time you make a comment, hoping to gain some great wisdom from......oh thats it, your not all football pros. Im afraid losings part of football, despite what people might say about having loads of money. we should be doing better, yes we should but were not. we're where we are. but to whinge and moan like a 4 year old after a defeat. come on grow up. its football! get on with your life. we're having a bad season. yes. we could be relegated. yes. but do you really think the club are not trying the hardest to do better. course they are! so the next time your complaining about wrong tactics, inept, disgraceful, dire bla bla ect. remember success rarely happens over night. look at any of the great managers, it takes time to build success.of any sort. chopping and changing gets you nowhere. why do you think man u and arsenal heve been so successfull cos they build for the long term. Part of THIS clubs success in the past was excactly because we gave managers time! we had stability. so the next time everything doesnt go your way. think to yourself, 'does the world really want to know how unhappy i am, do they really want to read my moaning monologue', i,ll do you a favour the answers no.

Its like Groundhog day on here reading the same muppets who want keane out probally the same who wanted Magilton out and were not happy when Royle was maid manager either. win are home games and we will be fine got to keep Keane until the end of season. As for Stead every one on here used to moan about him cant head the ball no control and scored yesterday Wow he scored a goal but adds nothing to the team why do you think he has had more clubs than jack nicklaus.

and theres still pro keaners on here-ur clearly not ITFC fans as u still seem happy that we are teetering on the verge of relegation and actually sound like all our moaning actually means we'll get the manager sacked. If the man aint doing his job he should be sackedand he clearly isnt,no question.I am a manager and if I dont do my job right I will either be moved or demoted so shut up.
I find it unreal that you are still behind him even after all this, even if we do stay up are you going to look at him as a hero for doing it????? Wot a load of crap, you need to wake up as well,we have a right to our opinion and if u cant see that this football club is in a lot of trouble then you are probably more stupid than you sound, its called reality.

Enough excuses
Enough time
Enough money spent
Enough poor signings
Enough draws
Enough chances missed
Enough players loaned out
Enough poor tactical decisions
Enough rhetoric
Enough of fans patience
Enough poor substituions
Enough of the wrong half of the table

Need i go on?
No one more than my self wanted Keane to be a success. But it is just not working. Week in, week out its the same. I can't see any positive progression. I'm not one for chopping and changing mangers QPR style but we are clealy going backwards and sometimes (ME), you jusy have to cut your losses and move on.

There is time for a new manager to improve things. Reading have certainly picked up and no doubt QPR will too. Wednesday and Peterborough may have changed managers but they replaced dross with dross.

Can any pro Keane fans on here hand on heart name one improvement over last season? On the evidence that you've seen this season, can you REALLY say Keane is a quality manager?
If Keane keeps us up this season and we are serious promotion contenders this time next year, i will glady apologise to him. However i don't think he'll be here.

Does RK realise we could be playing Rochdale in a league match come August? Make him stay and get us out of this mess!

God it makes me sad to read some of the rubbish written on here. Thankfully this is not a true reflection of our fan base because if it were we wouldnt get anywhere.

Roy Keane would be the first to admit that it has been a crap season -in fact I think he has in many of his recent interviews. He is a man used to success and is no doubt huting as much as us that things have not worked out his season. Some of the abuse directed at him in the posts in this story are absolutly disgraceful.

Why is it his fault that our strikers missed 22 chances yesterday ?
Why is it his fault that Stead has scored 2 in 2 when he has only scored 6 for us all season ?
Why isit his fault that in our last 2 games we have come up against inspired keepers ?
Why is it his fault that over the season we have conceeded too many last minute goals ?
Why is it his fault that Priskin and Martin, both percieved talented young players, have not performed this season ?
Why is it his fault that Walters has not been able to recapture the form of two seasons ago when he was immense ?
Why is it that none of Pablo, Wickham, Stead or Walters have managed to score more than 6 goals this season ?

I could go on but hopefully you get my point. The fact we are at the bottom of the table is not just down to the manager but the players as well - we have been inconsistant all season and this has cost us vital points.

I for one hope that we can stay up this season and that next season Keane can get a tune out of this team, which is clearly full of some good players, thus proving some of the muppets on here wrong.

yorkshire added 10:52 - Mar 7
^^^ utter rubbish - that team under Duncan would get beat 9 times out of 10 by the current crop - and the other one we would only draw due to an outstanding goalkeeping performance by Jon Hallworth !!!

kirbs added 10:56 - Mar 7
yourkshire- its his fault becauae we finished 9th last year not in the bottom 4 or 5. You saying we need to build slowly, we finished 9th last year so we shoulda been building on that! Whoo cares what keane has done in the past were in the present and we are in big trouble. Thanks for ruining our club roy keane now get out??

yorkshire added 11:09 - Mar 7
Kirbs - can you honestly say that this team that Keane has built is worse than the one we had last season ?

Rosenior, Leadbitter, D. Murphy, Delaney and a much better Mcaughley are all down to Keane
