Town have confirmed that thet have launched an appeal against the red card Damien Delaney received in Saturday's victory over Scunthorpe. The Irishman faces a three-match ban for a dismissal for serious foul play if referee Pat Miller’s decision is upheld.

Boss Roy Keane told the club site: "We've had a look at the DVD and the club are now in the process of appealing."

The FA’s Disciplinary Committee will hear the appeal at 1pm on Tuesday. If Town are successful, the central defender will be available for the game against Watford, if not, then Delaney faces a three-match ban and the possibility of a fourth if the FA decide that the appeal is frivolous, as was the case with Jon Stead’s sending off at Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

Scunthorpe have already announced that they will be appealing Cliff Byrne's red card earlier in Saturday's game.

naa added 11:19 - Mar 15 The extra game for frivolous appealing is a joke. It seems that they add it to every single appeal that gets upheld. Surely that's not the point. If they do that here then they are a joke. It was never a red in the first place, but to suggest that the appeal is frivolous makes a mockery of the whole thing. If you deserve a red for every single cynical foul performed Scunny would have had their whole team off after about 15 mins.

cracko82 added 11:20 - Mar 15 Was never a red in my book! Abit synical you could argue, but was in the centre circle and MAC was covering. Definate Yellow but no more, see it week in & week out with people being chopped down when on the break. Worrying if he does get the ban as the back 4 have been much improved. And the next 3 games coming up against Watford, Barnsley & Plymouth are key to shaping our seasons finish. No faith in FA appeals comittee so have to wait & see I guess. Is Connor away with England now if Murph is out?

The Stead appeal was ridiculous, but think it's right that they take a stand with this one, as would be very surprised if it was dismissed as 'frivolous'. Wouldn't it have been worth waiting for the outcome of the appeal before recalling our all conquering Kiwi World Cup hero?

BlueBoots added 11:43 - Mar 15 I think it was important that we appealed this decision, as was the case with the Stead red card; even if the ban is increased to 4 matches, it's a matter of principle and we need to make a stand... If we don't appeal, then by keeping quiet we're effectively saying it's acceptable for referees to continue making these ridiculous decisions, and giving the F.A. the green light to not have to look into them when they happen.

8ashblue added 12:19 - Mar 15 spot on blueboots. While not many justifiable appeals get upheld by FA, clubs must make a stand against poor ref's. Stead was most unlikely to succeed as he showed intent. With Smith returning as cover its worth appealling as 4 games wont make much difference whereas if Town are successful we get DD back on tuesday. Result!

Only thing was that Delaney wasnt the last man, so maybe should have been a yellow.......like the FA are gonna care though, they generally try and justify all of their referee's decisions

rgone added 12:47 - Mar 15 Why do people keep referring to him not being the last man - he wasn't sent off for a professional foul. It was a poor decision by the ref (as was Stead's) but I worry about Scunny appealing as well because if they are both successful, then the ref looks stupid — and it may be difficult not to treat them the same.

StowTractorBoy added 12:54 - Mar 15 I have interpeted the sending off to be for serious foul play only, which carries a 3 match ban and not for serious foul play denying a goalscoring opportunity which carries only a one match ban. If this is the case the posts on here relating to last man are not relevant in this instance. In view of this I have my doubts as to whether this appeal will be won as Delaney in my opinion brought his opponent down deliberately and under the laws of the game this could be deemed as serious foul play. Unfortunately for us 9 out of ten refs would have shown a yellow card but Mr Miller was so poor throughout I was not suprised he showed a red. I fear the appeal will fail but if commensense was allowed to prevail the appeal will be won.
