Keane Angry After Defeat
Keane Angry After Defeat
Wednesday, 17th Mar 2010 00:22

Town boss Roy Keane left his players in no doubt about what he thought of the performance at Watford, keeping them in the dressing room for 90 minutes after the 2-1 defeat.

Keane felt his side started poorly and never recovered: “We kicked the ball out play after three seconds, and it set the tone for the night. We’ll need to spend hours and hours now on the training pitch just practising kick-offs. It’s unbelievable."

The Blues boss was less than impressed that his side only started to show any form in the second half and then gave away a second poor goal: "The game started at quarter to eight.

“We couldn’t have been any worse in the second half, and we got ourselves back in the game, but we gave another bad goal away and shot ourselves in the foot.

“I freshened things up with one or two players coming in, but they didn’t give us the freshness we were hoping for. They say don’t change a winning team, and it could be true. You can bet your life I’ll be making changes now though.”

Keane replaced Owen Garvan after only 22 minutes and said he might have made other early tactical substitutions: "There could have been more. I really believe Watford wanted it more and that is hard to stomach."

Watford boss Malky Mackay said winning goalscorer Will Hoskins has been pressing for a place in the side: "Will has been close to getting in the team in last couple of weeks.

"He's matured this season, he's had a child with his partner and settled down. He's undoubtedly talented but it's also about workrate and we have seen that recently - I'm delighted for him.

“We had a lot of possession in the first half and it could have been two or three, so I was disappointed when their goal went in, but I had no doubt that they had the character to go on and win it.”

It's screamingly obvious that Keane has no idea what he's doing.

Bring in Burley.

come on people yes maybe you shouldn't change a winning side but we hardly played well on Saturday and we'v played a lot of games recently and a we'v got 2 very inportant games at home coming up so freshening up the side wasn't such a bad idea surely!!! Stop blaming Keane and take a look at the players they are the ones that showed little passion apart from maybe Leadbitter Colback and the 2 centerbacks the rest off the team have got to start taking responsability and not go missing!!!!! Come up lets stop complaining and get behind them 2 home wins and we probably safe then lets build for next season aim to keep Colback and leadbitter (Maybe Murphy and Healy the Jurys out lol!!!) hope Wickham and O'conner continue to improve could be a very good season next year

Curbs was at watford as the rumour is that he will replace malky if they lost , or even if they didnt, and that malky would be kept on in some capacity.

Rosenior has gone right off the boil and i cant see why d wright again lost his place. Infact i cant see why you need to make 3 changes to a winning side. Scunthorpe was an auwful battle of a game but we performed better than last night. Why cant we play well for 3 games on the trot anyway , irrespective of a few changes. Walters looks finished/burnt out or burdened with the captaincy and i would drop him with rosenior . I would have norris back in for walters and still play lead and colback.
Norris or lead should be made captain , probably lead is more suitable. He is more fiery that chuck so would prefer him to have the armband.

It was a real snub for Owen to be hauled off and I cant see why he was singled out. Murphy may still have been groggy from his concussion , because he went missing. Keane has a real problem , he either shouts and tries to motivate or he lets them get on with it. There is too much player powere , like supple hinted at

and in a team of 11 you only need one or two with a not bothered attitude for you to lose the game as the margins in the CCC are that fine between top and bottom and lets face it we have a strong squad who do not perform as they should. Martin was again a waste of time, keane gave him another crack which is fair , and nothing !

Ive been down the training ground a few times and when ive been there they very rarely do any practice for set pieces and corners and it shows . There is mc lochlan , keane, gomez and mc parland down there , you would think that was enough trainers to get corners and free kicks sorted -obviously not

Garvan will again be blamed for the whole team being poor as he was after the West Brom game then Keane can drop him again ,he was only brought back in due to suspension and we again win two games !!! Lee Martin must have done some extra running at training this week cause that is how Keane picks his team ,how is he brought on ahead of Norris ? and why was he brought on ?
We again started with more of Roys signings than Jims and again we lost ,says it all really

One thought after reading everyone's comments regarding yesterday's poor performance: we have drawn 17 matches this season. Would everyone be happier if we had lost ,say ,9 of those games and won the other 8? We would be 7 points better off and only a few points off a playoff place, but my guess is that the moaners or "Keane outers" would be just as vociferous.People are either "glass half empty" or" glass half full" and don't seem to change. Just a thought.
So far as yesterday's game, I was not happy at RK subbing garvan after 22 minutes but it was obviously a tactical decision - my guess is he wanted Colback back in the centre of midfield and thought Martin ( who is quicker than OG) was worth a punt on the wide left. I also agree with those who thought the double substitution of Murphy and Wickham was a mistake - I would have kept Connor on.But as someone who wants to see the RK revolution continue I respect the manager's right to make these decisions. So far as not changing a winning team - thats fine with one game a week but at the moment we are in the middle of 5 games in 14 days ,towards the last part of the season when players are more prone to picking up injuries due to "battle fatigue". I don't think for instance that Rosenior for Wright and Leadbitter back in plus starting with Wickham are such dramatic changes.
Finally ,am I the only fan who has found this season more interesting than last season.I will definitely be renewing my season ticket and can't wait for next season - in the Championship!

David Wright should have kept his place. We used to say "Don't mess with the defence" if it was working for our non-league side and it holds true in pro football.

Saying that, Rosenior started shockingly and created their first goal, but in the second half most of our attacking momentum came from him down the right. I would never have subbed in Martin for Garvan but the lad was covering the whole pitch trying to make an impression and got a couple of crosses in.

My team would have been:

Counago Walters
Colback Garvan Leadbitty Norris
O'Connr Delaney McCaul D Wright
Murphy

Chuck on a recovering Murphy and Healy at the end. 2-0 Town

Same old moaners on here....Wow we loose a game and out you all come with your axe's again!!!!
Garvan is NOT good enough. If it's one thing Keane know's about is midfield, having played at the top for club and country!
Every manager make's mistake's. Even fergie get's it wrong at time's for gods sake!!
Why do we think we have a divine right to beat everybody just by turning up?
Ok some will say Keane has wasted money.......Nicky Maynard anyone? 2.5 Million and has hardy done jack s**t since coming to Bristol city.

Some people say Curbs should be in charge??
Is this the same Curbs that played with one up front at home for West Ham?
The same Curbs that wasted millions on rubbish transfers for West Ham?
The same Curbs that played negative boring football while in charge of West Ham?

Get a grip people, Write this season off, Give Keane a chance for gods sake before we turn into QPR!!
Who do we think we are? We are Ipswich Town, a club famous in the late 70's and 80's....We have no divine right to beat teams, we have to earn it on the pitch and off it.
We are as good as out league position.
Keane will sort it.

IMO Town played well against Cardiff, poorly against Scunthorpe and grabbed a late goal and were worse against Watford.
No such thing as getting a bit of confidence running through the team as the team changes each week! Yes we have a run of games close to each other but this is not a Sunday league team (I can hear the arguments to say otherwise, lol), so as professional fit football players should be able to take it in their stride unless injured.
The fact is that by not playing a settled side and formation every line up changes and this can't be beneficial. I agree 100% (to quote the Beat) that Walters should either be dropped or Captaincy removed as I feel he has had a very poor season again. I feel sorry for Garvan being pulled off so early, he wasn't having a good game but nor were many others. Why substitute him with Martin who has done chuff all since arriving nor shown much ability to do more than that! We have Peters on the bench who IMO has done okay this season when he has been played and could have slotted in on the left of midfield.
M.E. will judge Keane over the course of the season as we do and make his own conclusions. The team under RK have massively under performed and how long M.E. will put up with that remains to be seen. He wasn't happened with mid table mediocracy under Magilton and I'm sure will be hugely unimpressed with what he has seen for his money this year.

I just have to give credit to those of you on here who are still willing to pay hard-earned cash in order to travel around and watch Town at the moment. I realise that the 'party line' is "loyalty inspite of the evidence of total team apathy and appalling man-management" (Keane Angry... could be the leader on ANY article about Keane in the last 15 years...) and yet I just can't afford it, financially or emotionally to trudge around the country watching us lamely attempt to bail the water out of a ship that is rapidly sinking.

I love Town, always have, always will.

Doesn't there come a point, however, when one is allowed to say, "no more at the moment, you ain't getting my money, or my voice, or my time - I just don't wanna watch this car-crash any more"?

The Changing Man - no theres not, as long as you can afford to then you go and support your team, even if you cant afford ti, listen to it on the radio, sit and watch sky sports news waiting for updates, highs lows, relegation, promotion, that is what footballs all about, and remember ipswich are in debt, still are and if Evans did pull the plug we would be ruined, doesnt that make you think slightly about why we dont compete with the big boys?!!!!!

I went to the game last night and the first half was on a par with the 2nd half performance against peterborough, absoloute pants !!! we did improve after the break and deserved the equaliser.

however to all you arm chair fans waxing lyrical about the talent that is owen garvan, reality check for you, he is absoloute pants, ok he can pass a ball but for someone who's 6 ft 2 is too light weight, has an alarming lack of pace for a young lad and just isn't up to the standard we need to take us forward, if we recieve offers in the summer we should certainly consider these offers. last night he deserved to get taken off, his lack of pace in the middle of the park against a team that wanted it more cost us and he gave away a shocking corner just through lack of communication. really poor

"We would be in the sh*t if ME wasn't funding us" STUPID again. If ME wasn't here we would not spend all this money..... DUUHHH!!!

keane has no clue - imagine how good the lads must feel this morning. will have been pretty tough to wind down after a 90 minute slagging match followed by a further 90 minutes in deadly silence on the coach home!! wouldnt exactly be motivating for training would it. as for spending hours practising kick off's being unbelievable, it is just that - unbelievable

After watching that performance i was extremley embarresed and let down. The situation is i think we are still 6 points from safety as i think we will need 50 points to stay up although in this tight a league it may require more this year. So i would happily take win lose win lose for the last nine games of the season at the moment. I think Keane now has nine games to keep himself the job. Performances must improve from last night where we were the worst of two very bad teams. At least that result and performance must end any unrealistic hopes of the playoffs(anyone who read my previous post on a previos page about should aim for it well it is mathmatically possible it was my idea of sacasm btw). If Keane can steer us into the top half of the table which i dont think is too much to ask for as it is very tight i will say ok he deserves a second season at our club to give us a serious go at promotion next season. Anything below 12th place however and i think marcus evans has to hold his hands up and say weve given you the whole season thanks for your efforts but you dont cut it and we need another manager to try to get us too our target of the premier league. Now i dont think keane is capable of leading us to a top half finish this season or next season if he does stay so my head rules my heart in this one in again saying KEANE OUT- but at the end of the season (same sort of time as magilton as soon as we are mathmatically safe would be perfect timing).

Doesnt matter whether you go to every home game, every away game,go when you can afford to, or just watch reports on Sky TV, or Sky on the www, if you call yourself a Town supporter, losing HURTS.

Now i have been a Town supporter for more years than i care to remember, and losing doesnt get any easier, I have seen us lose under Robson, Ferguson, Duncan, Burley etc, and now Keane, a loss is still a loss and 9 times out of 10, if you lose the other team were either better or luckier.

I guess what I am trying to say is we all hurt when we lose, it seems on here just lately it doesnt matter what the result means to the team, its all about what the result means to those of us that have an axe to grind.
This has been a terrible season, more downs than ups, but trust me, I and I suspect loads more of you have seen worse, the trouble is loads have seen better as well, but win, lose or draw we will go on, and I will be there with Ipswich.

Moaning at results has been going on since a caveman (no, not Keane) first kicked a pigs bladder arond, i suppose it helps to vent all the frustration that builds up, but i can not and will not see the point of criticising individuals, whether they are players or mangement, we all want to win, and running each other down (supporters, staff, players etc) is not what is required of supporters when the tough times are here.
You dont have to like what you see, but if you are a supporter you deal with it, those of you who dont like what you see and dont deal with it, pi**ing and moaning, changes nothing, it just makes a bad situation worse.

I think you have to all consider the Man 'that is keane' he of the 'anyone can take a team to mid table in championship'
Please illustrate where he has improved the TEAM ??
I think we have better players but they are not playing for him !! simple
He has acquired/signed some good ones - notably the Sunderland boys , Delaney
O Connor looks promising
If he were a 'good manager' he would be able to bring this talent together - he cant and he hasn't - why ? because he is not a Man Manager -encourage , motivate - he is too emotional and irrational - so he should have a number two who is can do the things he can't -he doesnt? if he cant finish with this team in the top half - as he said himself - he is not up to the job
Get real people - we all support the club but we must all also see him for what he is
There is a very negative vibe at the club at the moment - ask afew people who work there ??

I see Chelsea lost as well and a home. No calls for the manager to resign, or claims that he is useless etc. etc.

A win on Saturday and all you negative posters will disappear until the next defeat.

This morning on Talk Sport , Steve Curry ,who is one of the most experienced football journalists in the Country, said that sadly he believed that Roy Keane does not have the right temperament to be a manager. Last night's post match anger says it all. Does he never look in the mirror & think maybe he could be the problem ,not the solution , because you can't keep blaming the players. As has been said earlier, tactics , correct practice & team balance are the job of the manager , not the players. We have not had a tactically astute , balanced side all season. He has to go.

The reaction is not just about last night

Are you happy with our performances this season ?

Do you think - as a team - we are moving foreward

Of course we want to do well and play well

Fact is we havent -
Keane has bought in some decent players but does not have the Managerial skill to blend them together
er I do not see the correlation between a Top Premiership side losing to Inter Milan and us losing away at Watford with an abject performance

What did you think of last nights game ?

jamesy_itfc_keano added 16:13 - Mar 17
A win on sat and everyone will forget about last night !
Keano is the right man to take ITFC forward . I have no douts about that!
If we end up lower than 17/18 then OK .. but mid-table finish is ok this season.
Then next season we can fight for the play-offs !!!!
