Keane Looking to End on a High Note
Keane Looking to End on a High Note
Thursday, 29th Apr 2010 19:31

Boss Roy Keane says he wants the Blues to end the season on a high when Sheffield United come to Portman Road on Sunday (KO 1pm). The Town manager says more of the club’s youngsters may be given a run-out against the Blades.

Keane told the club site: "Our fans have been magnificent this season. We have not given them much to shout about this year but hopefully we can finish the season on a winning note with three points against Sheffield United.

"One of the positives from this season has been the progress of one or two of our younger players.

"Connor has obviously made great strides forward. Shane O'Connor has come in and done well and Billy Clark has had a look in our last two games. One or two of the other youngsters may get a chance on Sunday as well."

Keane has been back in Ireland today launching the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Shades fundraising campaign. The Blues boss, who is a patron of the charity, also gave a lengthy interview with TV3, which can be viewed here.

Why would Irish guide dogs be better than any other guide dogs? What next, "Guide Dogs That Used to be Guide Dogs in Sunderland for the Blind"?

How about playing some decent football, with attacking intent for a change. Three points would be nice but Keano we want to see a good game of football to round the season off and maybe just maybe whet the appetite for next season. If we have to accept another season of the dull unimaginative rubbish that we have had this season then you might just find that the fans won't be quite so 'magnificent' as we have been this.

We have a game at the weekend. A largely meaningless one, but it would be useful to end on a high to encourage people to purchase their season tickets for next year (remember the plan to fill PR?). Why then is the manager on a jolly to Ireland to launch a charity fundraiser? That couldn't have waited until next week? Don't get me wrong, I think it is good of RK to be helping out a worthy cause, just not when he has a job to do in Ipswich. The guide dogs can wait a few days...

Keane looking to end on a highnote . . . by announcing his departure.

Apologies to the ardent Keane fans, but I do feel that there is a real possibility of Keane ruining our club. He seems intent on wholesale changes to virtually the whole squad and if he gets it wrong it could have serious long term effects. And lets face it, his track record in the transfer market hasnt been great.

Its not just doom and gloom, but a real possibility that he'll blow loads of money on yet more players and it still wont work, and so any new manager that comes in will be left with little funds.

Or course, he may get it right, but hes shown me little so far to suggest hes really up to the task.

RK has got some things right and a lot wrong
Delaney, by default, has become a very good centre-back...McAurley having been relieved of the Captains armband...is a commanding player of the season. The Keeper situation looks sorted with Murphey and ALB. Wickham looks awesome and with a MORE confident Priskin we could have a good centre hard core, as long as we can have the providers...centre midfield is a problem... Leadbitter is a good footballer, but needs to play a creative FORWARD pass, shoot more and not take any corners or freekicks, he should be on the end of them. If we then have Norris as his partner in centre midfield, he should be the ball winner and feed fast/creative wingers/attacking fullbacks (Peters/OConnor) and hopefully Civelli and perhaps Martin doing something for our Club...he owes us.

I just hope there is a good performance and hopefully a result to end with otherwise we will have a whole summer of negative vibes from the "so called" supporters. Please support your club 100% through good and bad times otherwise you are not a true fan!

Having differing opinions as to the merits of our manager and the players does not surely mean that we are not true ITFC fans?

martleshamitfc added 22:45 - Apr 29
Agree opinions are valuable but negativity breeds bad news and without positive support the club will decline! Players (and I am sure the manager) thrive on the backing of the supporters so why knock them? If you are down, nobody, whatever walk of life you are in needs to be told how bad you are doing! but support will go a long way to improving things.

I am an Ipswich fan through and through. Doesn't mean that I don't think Roy Keane is a to*ser and the sooner he leaves, the better.

So if Roy Keane left the club who would you think would do a better job?

An endless list martleshamitfc, how about one of the ball boys or Bluey or one of the statues outside the ground! Would like to see any Town Manager do well so nothing against RK, but I judge him on his performance this season as Manager not on his Man U career and high profile. If he is in place next season I wish him well, but I support the club not a person.
Seriously though, another season like this rubbish we have had to endure has got to mean non renewal of HIS contract.
He must have some great players lined up ready to sign as he boots out D Wright, maybe Garvan and Stead. If he is buying Murphy in place of Stead plus higher wages and laying out £1mill then that's crazy as although Stead isn't great with poor ball control and rubbish in the air, Murphy is not that much better and probably more lazy. He could look elsewhere with that money and find a more goal hungry player IMO.
Pointless game on Sunday unless he uses it to try out his youth. Perhaps he will give R Wright a last game in goal as ITFC say goodbye to their number 1 keeper, (I think B Murphy is a good keeper but still has much to learn)?
Going on the basis of Priskin, C Healy and L Martin have got to worried by the quality that may arrive.

So I gather from the last two rants from the moaners that you cannot come up with a serious contender? As previously stated on this website, if you take out the first 2 months of the season which we all agree was a disaster, the team would be in a play-off position. Take that form into next season from the start and hopes should be high!

bennyblue added 08:29 - Apr 30
if you take out the 1st two months we would probably be even lower ! i love listening to you bend the facts fairies you just take a chunk of reality out here and put this wetdream i had about roy in here and hey presto we won the champions league

I am an Ipswich fan who supports the club through thick and thin and I am lookign forward to Sundays game. Why can some people not take football for what it is? A game. The constant need to attack anything Ipswich by some people is baffling and I am so pleased my glass is half full. Roll on Sunday, roll on the clear out, roll on a few quality signings in the summer and roll on next season. Also well done to Keane for supporting such a worthy charity. If you do not enjoy supporting Ipswich anymore you have an option. Do something else with your free time. Pretty simple really.

"Keane Looking to End on a High Note" - I'm sure there must be a joke in there somewhere, about nuts/vices/opera singers, lol

Sorry, birthday on Sunday and holiday next week - I'm in a silly mood!

Seriously, it's been a season to pretty much forget. But I have a good feeling about next season. Let's hope that this time in 2011 we are either promoted or in the playoffs, with Naaaaaridge floundering somewhere insignificant.

COYB!!

..maybe keano could come onto the pitch at the end and give us a rendition of "I did it my way - very badly"..ala phil brown last year.

..or if he's looking to end on a high note maybe we could attatch him to a rocket and give him/us the perfect send off to an abysmal season.
