Reading Chasing Murphy
Reading Chasing Murphy
Monday, 10th May 2010 13:36

Town are facing competition from Reading for Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy’s signature. The Royals are understood to have started talks with the Black Cats regarding the Irish international, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Portman Road.

Sunderland are believed to want £1 million for the 27-year-old, who has another two years left on his contract at the Stadium of Light.

Murphy, who is likely to have to take a cut of almost 50% on his £20,000-a-week plus wage to move to a Championship club, is understood to be keen on a permanent switch to Portman Road, having scored six goals in 18 games for the Blues.

Elsewhere, Norwich, Hull and QPR are all reported to have joined Town in showing interest in Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop.

And former Town assistant manager John Gorman has taken on the same role alongside new MK Dons boss Karl Robinson.

Roy Keane's number one target for the new role as his assistant, ex-Watford and Reading boss Brendan Rodgers, had been linked with the MK Dons job but now seems set to join the Blues.

Meanwhile, departing Town loanee Liam Rosenior has pleaded guilty to using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and is due to be sentenced at Lowestoft Magistrates’ Court today.

If Reading are prepared to pay £1M, they can have him.

Can't say id want to pay £1m for him,
not one of those kinda players i watch and think 'wow'
If it's true and he wants to play for Ipswich then he'll come for £500,000

doesnt quite work like that, if the player wants to come and play for us it would make it easier to have him in on lower wages, but the actual fee would be down to the club and not the player

Sign him otherwise we will lose out on a signing as we cant be bothered to get ourselves going in the transfer market as per usual.

I´d be surprised if there was any truth in that story after seeing another one about their finances. According to one of the newspapers Reading are hoping to offload highly rated Sigurdsson and Federici for 4 million pounds.

No big deal, why wouldn't other teams be interested? Would worry me if they didn't!

no bidding war for a very average player please. let him go we need 3 or 4 quality players. no more similar to what we have. Does Murphy really stand out compared to counago stead walters etc?

Let him go there, after his first 5 or 6 games he showed no desire whatsoever, theres better out there for the money, Hooper from Scunthorpe and Lambert from Southampton, hungry young strikers who want to get to the premier league badly

Agree re comment about Lambert - I think we should go for him

Body language at the end of the season dreadful which told me he didn't care.
Please Roy don't chase after him. Hooper yes but Lambert will cost a fortune although he is 30 now and not young as suggested.

I am on tenterhooks looking forward to the dross that Keane will sign/attempt to sign this close season. Another gem out there like Priskin anybody?? The best thing ITFC can do is to get shot of Keane the muppet and all you pro-Keaners must be mental if you don't see it. But you will !!!!

If true, this could be good news as it may mean Reading buy Murphy meaning we spend our money elsewhere. However, if Keane is determined to bring Murphy in then Reading's interest could push the price up. It could be a similar situation with Fulop if we really are interested in him.

As for Brendan Rogers, I hope we do not enter into another contract which we will have to settle in a few months if Keane loses his job. He has already brought in Tony Loughlan and Roy McFarlane, what is wrong with them?

why is everyone so convinced about lambert, yes hes quality, but in league one. And yet people say lisbie would be crap for us and hes done alrite down there.(i mean i agree but you see my point)

cphtractor I would not complain if Keane spent the money on them two! I think 1mill is too much however, if he was a championship player, his value would not be that. I'm not going to complain if Keane does sign him though.

Doesn't matter who we sign...until we put the right manager in place we're not going to see any attractive football from our team or get anywhere near the play-offs.

Lisbie has scored 13 goals in League 1 this season, hardly set the world on fire has he?

I wouldn't be that bothered if we did not get him. Agree that he went off the boil after an excellent start here and whilst he is a reasonable player at this level i don't think he's that much better than Stead or Walters. If Connor is still at the club and either Keane buys a speedy striker(Hooper)or Rodgers gets the best out of Priskin, then i think Murphy would not be first choice anyway. If he signs however, and puts in 100%, he will have my full support

From what I saw last season he cannot play in the same side as Wickham. Too similar and running into same spaces.
Anyway what about the mighty Tamas!
