Town to Face West Ham in Pre-Season Friday, 14th May 2010 11:34
Town have announced that this pre-season’s Portman Road showcase friendly will be against West Ham United on Saturday 31st July (KO 3pm). The game will see former Blue Kieron Dyer return to his hometown club.
Chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "As part of our pre-season schedule Roy wanted a high profile friendly against top opposition at home and we've got that with West Ham coming to Portman Road.
"It's not too far for their supporters to travel and with the Championship season starting a week later, it should be a good atmosphere for what I'm sure will be exciting and competitive match."
Tickets will go on sale from July 1st priced as follows, season ticket holders booking tickets in advance: £15 adults, £10 concessions and £2 U16s. Non-season ticket holders booking tickets in advance: £17.50 adults, £12.50 concessions and £3 U16s. Tickets on the day: £20 adults, £15 concessions and £5 U16s.
The Hammers have been allocated 4,000 tickets in the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand.
West Ham were last at Portman Road for a friendly in the summer of 2008 when a Dean Ashton hat-trick saw them to a 5-2 victory.

The prices are on the high side for a Friendly.....Come on Mr Clegg, how about rewarding the supporters loyalty over the past few years and letting us in for a FIVER and kids for a QUID.......

Hope Marcus is ready to pay for the damage done to the stadium after their 'thug' fans leave?

So, while they are being billed here as 'top opposition' (ha, ha...) for us to appreciate that they're even willing to come and play against us; I guess we're seen there as the lame little nobody team that they can rack up a cricket score against to fire them up with optimism for their new season.... Ahhh, if only real life were as simple as football...

it's a lovely sunny summer afternoon, it's a saturday, you've made no plans so having nothing going on. your mate calls says 'what you up? doing anything - fancy the football?' you say 'yeah sounds good - meet you at sir alf'. you meet your mate, and walk to the turnstiles. ah. twenty quid to get in. you both say '20 quid?! for a friendly?! sod that.' Clegg, Evans, the ticket office people, who ever it is. They just don't get it, do they? never mind the family of 4 with drinks, food, programme etc. dear oh dear. :(

Yup, can't disagree with one word of your post MyBlueHeaven... Surely it's a LOT better to charge adults £5, kids £2 and then FILL THE PLACE and maybe win over a few thousand fans at the start of a new season. Nah, let's just screw the mugs for every single penny we can squeeze out of them...

We could do with a hot fixture near end of pre season like tottenham / chelsea / or spicey fixtures :) like norwich / nottm forest all close by ,at home good turn outs . problem though why play championship sides when we gonna kick arse when season gets underway :)

16jack ken16 - you will effectively be seeing Sunderland at Portman Rd. Or at least their cast offs. :-) But all in all, not a bad friendly really. We have to realise our current situation, so any game against a Prem team is good, considering.

Ahh the Town faithful. Do we ever stop wining like an old b*tch!!! Its lucky future signing don't read these sites, they would walk the other way in an instant. If its to expensive don't go. If you feel unsafe with West Ham visitng, don't go, If you hate Keane and everything he signs, folow another side. Everyone is entitles to their opinion but really, the constant complaining by a minority is getting boring. Come to Oz ITFC!! Melbourne and Sydney FC have Blackburn, Everton, Boca Juniors and Glasgow Rangers coming for preseason!!!!! The pulling power of the A League : )

How is West Ham a high profile club?

Just phoned Ladbrokes. They are refusing to take bets on Dyer being injured for the game. Too much of a certainty they said! Lets remember this is a friendly and before we diss the Owner, The Manager, The players et al --- lets see what happens this summer with comings and goings. We are not in the top 20 clubs in the Uk in terms of wealth, following etc... so temper your expectations a bit. Too much of what Keane took over from Jim Magilton was dross and he is finding it hard to move some of them out which limits his spending power and wage offers. IMHO McAuley will go and probably so will Walters but the pull of Premiership wages would be the same for all of us. Im actually feeling quite confident for next year.

Poor friendly game, i do not want west ham, neither does probably half of the ipswich supporters. I actually predicted this game, i knew the big club we would get would be between West Ham or Sunderland, nice one.

Top Class..... Ha ha ha ha ha ha!! Should have sold tickets for £5 Adult, £2 Child. Would have had a packed 30,000 capacity game then which would have boosted the players and hopefully the attendance for the season ahead. We'll be lucky to get 15,000 fans to this.
bluearmy77 added 15:59 - May 14
at that price i will guess at 8,000 attendance
TractorCam added 16:02 - May 14
I reckon with the date and time i agree with bleedblue and we will probably see around 15,000
