Chopra Set for Talks With Jones
Chopra Set for Talks With Jones
Friday, 11th Jun 2010 10:07

Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra reportedly plans to hold talks with Bluebirds boss David Jones regarding his future when he returns from holiday next week. Town are understood to have made an increased offer of £4 million to the Welsh club for the ex-Sunderland frontman.

Sources in Chopra’s native North-East claim the one-time Newcastle United player will meet with Jones to discuss whether he is in favour of the move to Suffolk, where he would be reunited with Roy Keane, his boss at the Stadium of Light, who helped him through his well-documented personal problems.

Keane wants to pair Chopra, 26, with 17-year-old Connor Wickham for the Blues’ 2010/11 campaign.

Town owner and chairman Marcus Evans was at the club on Wednesday and the progress of the ongoing attempt to land the former England U21 international striker will almost certainly have been discussed.

Cardiff, who have settled their £1.9 million tax debt, see Swindon’s £1 million rated Charlie Austin as Chopra’s replacement, but face competition for his signature from a number of other Championship sides, including Burnley, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.

In MY opinion, Keane has signed rubbish with the exception of Leadbitter. Chopra has baggage and will probably miss the chance for the winning goal if he has Ipswich down for a draw at the bookies. And what is that crap from Jimmy86 about Keane will be a great cos he studied under Clough and Ferguson??? Bollocks !!! Great players don't make great managers as Keane has proved. Look at Captain Marvel Brian Robson. He couldn't get a job selling programmes now and will be joined by Keano by Christmas. Wanna buy a programme you muppet??

Isn't it funny how when we were in financial trouble our top players left for around £300K, free transfers or even a £5M goalkeeper going in exchange for two friendlies (one of which has not happened), yet when Cardiff need to sell a player and we are the only bidder it seems they will get £4M and maybe make a profit on him.

I think Chopra could be a good signing and I would like to see him join us. If we put him on say £15,000 a week and give him a 4 year contract, that's a total investment of around £7M (23,000 season tickets) for a player for a player who will be 30 at the end of that contract. A very big gamble, but if it gets us promoted then it will be worth it.

A worry in the back of my mind is that Cardiff will buy Austin for £1M to replace him and Austin will score more than Chopra does. :-D

IpswichElvis - I'm glad you aren't in charge then, since you seem to think Delaney, O'Connor, Brian Murphy, Daryl Murphy and Colback (OK, the last two were only on loan, but still RK signings) are all rubbish. I think Keane is running out of time, if we aren't challenging for promotion by Christmas he'll probably be gone, but until then STFU. You sound like a stuck record. We get the picture, you don't like Keane. There is no need to post 8 times on one story. Even people who were inclined to agree with you must be sick of reading your inanities by now.

chopras price just keeps going up cos they know weve got money and we are the only club after him....i fear this move for the player who has obvious emotional tie ups with keane-really cant see where the other 3 or 4 signings are coming from he keeps going on about......

I honestly cant see us selling chopra to anyone in the championship. Our new investors have stated that they will only sell if the managers happy and its right for the club. Dave Jones will not want to sell chops to another championship club or anyone else. The way that chopra would leave is to a premiership club for a fee over 4m which is 75-100% paid straight away. Although we are not billionaires (our owners are but also businessmen) they will sell if its right!

He is on somewhere in the region of 15-20k a week plus bonus prob around 24k. Could you pay that along with a 4m fee up front? Cant see it sorry!

By the way if he was sold id be gutted as he's a top top player even when not scoring he gives it 100% all the time.

I know what? Let's slate Keano as he's trying to make some decent signings and keep our hottest prospect at the same time.

let me get this right we are going to pay 4 mill for a 20 goal a season striker who could only manage 16 in the 2nd last year and 8 when he was in the 1st are the management and fans on here loony or what ?. surely you have to score 20+ to be a 20+ striker !

Out of interest how much money are they making available to Jones for transfers?

As for us we can pay £10 mill for him and give him 50k a week if the owner and Keane thought he was worth it (obviously they wouldn't lol but it answers your question lol)

all the anti Chopra posts on here from obvious nawrich inbreds , demonstates just how much they actually fear that Town WILL get a very , very good striker in , who will "do the job" with ease, and whom Roy Keane has a good understanding with and was able to "manage" the player to some of his best form only a couple of years or so ago. At 26-27yrs of age Chopra is far from "past his best".

IF we can nab this player it will send out a very strong mesage of " promotion intent" and will encourage other quality players to join Town - a sceanario that scum fans can only dream of in their pauper land existance !!

ipswich elvis im just gonna ignore what you said coz that was a personal insult and you haven't read what I said properly. im fully aware that because your a good player doesn't mean your going to be a good manager, I wasn't saying that in my post, I was highlighting the fact that he has learnt under some great managers, he is a natural winner and he is the manager of our club whether you like it or not, people are entitled to their opinion so dont go callin me a muppet, ur prob 1 of these whingin arm chair fans, try gettin a season ticket

if we paid £2.75m for a decent championship striker in Stewart in 2000, surely with inflation, the way the game has gone financially, actually £4m isnt that bad for Chopra?

I just hope this is a self portrait, it makes it so much easier to sum you up in four letters.

Chopra is past his best and why would he move down to a bottom half team as opposed to a play off contender??? Besides, if ME had any sense, Keane will be out by November - tops !!! These pro-Keane fans just love that he is a big name. They probably have Roy Keane posters on the walls in their bedrooms. Get real you dimwits and smell the coffee !!!!
